Bradley’s Challenge Bradley’s House of Hope was founded in 2005 as a place to provide physical therapy for children in the Managua, Nicaragua area. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the western hemisphere and there is a tremendous need to provide help for the special needs children who live there. Currently, there are over 70 children receiving much needed therapy at Bradley’s House. We are attempting to raise money to expand the equestrian therapy program, and are looking for sponsors. The children who participate in the equestrian therapy program light up like a Christmas tree when around the horses, and the joy they feel is beyond description!

We are attempting to raise funds by doing a weight loss challenge. We currently have 16 people who have committed to losing weight (the individual weight goals vary) and are looking for sponsors. If you would like to sponsor an individual, just pledge a dollar amount and hopefully when the challenge wraps up on September 11, there will be 16 people a little more healthy and lots of funds raised for Bradley’s House. To donate go to:

https://www.crowdrise.com/bradleys-challenge.

Visitor Table We need a few more people to serve at the Visitor Table at 10:45am in the Gathering room. We want our visitors to feel welcome and see a friendly face as they come in. Your commitment would be 1 or 2 times per quarter. If you would like to serve in this important ministry, please call the church office, 335-2826 or email: [email protected].

Exercise Classes There will be no exercise classes this week. Classes will resume Monday the 13th.

“Kids’ Korner” Congratulations to:

Sunday School Teachers "A single Sunday School lesson may seem a very small thing, but it is a mustard seed that can grow into a tree—a lovely and beneficial tree through every life that learns these lessons and applies them through faith to life." (From "A Signpost and a Seed of Faith"). Thank you Sunday School teachers for a job well done! Opportunities for "seed planting' are available next fall. There are open places for teachers in 2/3 Grade, Club 5/4, and Jr. High. Please contact Penny Hoekstra, Marilee Lake, or the church office if you are interested.

Greeters Needed Greeters are needed for the traditional services. Please stop by the Gathering room and sign up for one or two Sundays. Thanks for your help!

Lay Readers

The Lay Reader program is looking to expand by having youth and college age students read Scripture during our services. If you are interested, please, contact Susan Furlong at 667-6607 or [email protected]. We will hold a one hour workshop on why we read Scripture and ways to convey that message to the congregation. Then you will be scheduled to read every 3-4 months.

UMW Mission Moment

We had finished the medical consultation, and the David and Goliath story had been shared and the skit performed by Volunteers in Mission team from Texas was over. The children enthusiastically used crayons to color a picture of David and Goliath. I sat on a bench with a young boy and watched as he worked on his picture. He looked up at me and asked, "Are you sanctified?" (Are you sanctified?) I was stunned to hear a question from him. I answered, "Yes, I am," and added, "Are you sanctified?" "Oui, oui" (yes, yes), he replied. We both sat in silence as if to acknowledge that we are assured by Christ that we are sanctified so that we may serve the living word. Affirmation of Faith #881

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;* the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Pg 11

O How I Love Jesus

There is a name I love to hear, I love to sing its worth;

it sounds like music in my ear, the sweetest name on earth.

Refrain: O how I love Jesus, O how I love Jesus,

O how I love Jesus, because he first loved me!

It tells me of a Savior's love, who died to set me free;

it tells me of his precious blood, the sinner's perfect plea.

Refrain

It tells of one whose loving heart can feel my deepest woe;

who in each sorrow bears a part that none can bear below.

Refrain
