Prelude “Think About Jesus” / “Jesus Loves Me” Janet Herman, Piano

Call to Worship One: Faith in God is the beginning of wisdom. Many: To believe in something that cannot be seen requires courage: courage to ask questions, to wonder, and to explore doubts. One: As a community linked together through God’s love, we learn from each other and we teach each other the meaning of our faith. Many: In so doing, we grow in God’s love: passionately, completely and humbly. ALL: Be with us Lord, and enfold us in your miraculous grace.

Opening Song “Morning Has Broken” “Morning Has Broken,” while not performed ‘hymn style,’

sing along to this good old welcome to the morning song by Cat Stevens

A Litany for Teachers and Graduates Leaders: Jeannie Strong, Karen Destino and Jen Kann L = Leader; P = People

L1: Today is Education Sunday, a day we celebrate the dedication of our teachers and the accomplishments of our graduates. P: We thank you, God, for teachers who serve with gladness. (continued)

L2: For teachers of the youngest children who share the meaning of kindness and love for others, L3: For teachers of the primary grades who teach the Bible stories of long ago, L1: For teachers of our youth who relate scripture to modern day values, L2: For leaders of adult education, who share their faith and challenge us, P: We thank you God for our teachers’ commitment to our faith development. L3: For the graduates who just yesterday were small children and who have worked hard to be where they are today. P: We thank you, God, for these students loved by You and this church, for their accomplishments and for their potential yet to be reached. ALL: We give you thanks, O God, for our teachers and graduates, and for the gift of education.

ENGAGING Anthem “Holy, Holy, Holy” CCC Choir

Scripture Reading Psalm 8 Lector: Connie Bottoni from The Message

God, brilliant Lord, yours is a household name. Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you; toddlers shout the songs That drown out enemy talk, And silence atheist babble. I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous, Your handmade sky-jewelry, Moon and stars mounted in their settings, Then I look at my micro-self and wonder, Why do you bother with us?

2 Corinthians 13:11-13 (NRV)

Finally, brothers and sisters, farewell. Put things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. Meditation The Reverend Dr. Margo Markesteijn

Why take a second look our way? Yet we’ve so narrowly missed being gods, Bright with Eden’s dawn light. You put us in charge of your handcrafted world, Repeated to us your Genesis-charge, Made us lords of sheep and cattle, Even animals out in the wild, Birds flying and fish swimming, Whales singing in the ocean deeps. God, brilliant Lord, Your name echoes around the world.

RESPONDING An Opportunity to Give by Carol Penner (edits smp)

God of grace, help us live and give in this, your kingdom of love, where there are no enemies, only brothers and sisters… and kindness is the air we breathe. Amen.

If you are able to give at this time, then your gifts can be received via US Mail, using our new giving “app,” or sending checks through your bank. Thank you.

Song of Preparation Breathe On Me Breath of God words within video In the Spirit of Pentecost, of God as close as breath, you are welcome to sing along

or simply read the text of this old, familiar hymn.

THE LORD’S SUPPER

Feel free to grab a cracker or slice of bread and small cup of juice before the reading of these words of preparation

and institution of the Lord’s Supper.

Blessing the Bread, the Cup Elder 1: Beth Fulkerson Let us now join with generations before us who have sought spiritual sustenance in the sharing of this Holy Meal. Together let us remember and claim God’s love, sacrifice, forgiveness and grace as we eat the bread of life, and drink the cup of blessing.

Elder 2: Dan Robillard As sisters and brothers in faith, we recall anew these words and acts of Jesus. Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it and gave it to his disciples saying: “Take and eat, all of you: This is my body, surrendered for you.” The bread of life. TAKE AND EAT.

Elder 1: Jesus also took a cup, and after giving thanks, gave it to his disciples and said: “Take and drink, all of you: This is the seal of a new covenant, my life poured out. I will drink this cup with you again at the table of God’s joy. Whenever you do these things, remember me.”

The cup of blessing. TAKE AND DRINK.

Elder 2: Holy Spirit we are blessed by this table fellowship; let us rise up and go into the world as your body, the Body of Christ. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father (or Creator) which art in heaven hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

GOING FORTH Closing Song “What the World Needs Now” lyrics within video

as sung by Dionne Warwick Don’t give up on this world, on the neighbors we don’t agree with, on situations that seem irreparable.

Let’s remember that above all else, Jesus taught followers like us, to love.

Blessing from the World Council of Churches May the blessing of the God of peace and justice

be with us;

May the blessing of the Son who weeps the tears of the world’s suffering

be with us;

And may the blessing of the Spirit who inspires us to reconciliation and hope

be with us from now into eternity.

Amen.
