FABULOUS FOURTH
We are collecting pop tabs in the break rooms. Ronald McDonald Houses collect pop tabs instead of
entire aluminum cans because it's more hygienic to store tabs than cans, and collection and storage is easier. The
program is an easy way for people of all ages to support
RMHC and know they are making a difference for fami-lies and children. The tabs can earn a child a free day of
dialysis.
After the tabs are collected, the local RMHC Chapter brings the collection to local recycling centers, where they
are weighed to determine their value (values can vary
significantly). The recycling center then sends the local RMHC Chapter a check for the total value. – Information
from Ronald McDonalds Website
Please take the time to snap off your tab and place it in the
“Pop Tabs” container. Thank you.

We just completed our 10th week and the end of the challenge is approaching quickly~ only 2 weeks remain to accumulate more steps! We're on track to reach 1 billion steps as an organization! In the next two weeks we need 147,997,571 to reach that amount. So far, our two week average has been 209,602,422, so it's possible. Let's see if we can beat our aver-age and surpass 1 billion steps!
Steps can be logged on the Be Your Best web-site at www.liveforlife.net/hfit/brunswick or
by calling 1-800-531-1470, option 1.

To find a person without a smart phone is almost impossible in our modern society. I personally have everything set up on
my smart phone. For example, I can pay bills, check bank accounts, keep track of my investments, watch movies, listen to
high quality music, take HD pictures, and least important of all, make phone calls. Everyone likes to believe that the smart
phone brand they own is the best. However, the reviews are in and here are the results.
1) Apple Iphone 5 2) Samsung Galaxy S III 3) Motorola Droid Razr HD 4) LG Optimus G 5) Google Nexus 4
6) HTC One X 7) Samsung Galaxy 8) Note II 9) Sony Xperia TL 10) Motorola Atrix HD 11) T-Mobile
MyTouch 4G
It is no surprise that the Iphone 5 is at the top of the list followed by the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Droid Razr HD. If
your phone is not on the list, I highly recommend getting a top rated phone the next time you are shopping for one. To read
all reviews on each phone, visit http://cell-phones.toptenreviews.com. Article information from google.
SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT 2013 by Mark Jones
We had five teams enter the double elimi-
nation tournament, to see if anyone could
dethrone the current champs from previous
tournaments held. All teams showed up
ready to play, and plenty of fun was had
throughout the day. Many family members
and friends are to be commended for sit-
ting through the heat and cheering for their
favorite team. There were many new
faces playing in the tournament, and they
did a great job playing. Hopefully when the
next one rolls around we will have even
more employees and family members com-
peting for the top prize.
“Cannons” came out with a bang winning
all their games and waiting for an opponent
in the championship. “Motor Boatn” made
a strong showing and finished in 3rd place.
“We Got Runs” made it another repeat
with the 1st place trophy. “Gator Done”
played two games and was eliminated.
“Lamo Nation” showed up after a few
tournaments not playing and had a good
showing, but unfortunately lost two games
and was eliminated as well.
Thanks to everyone who helped the EAC
with this event at the ballpark, and we
can’t wait until the next tournament.

Tips to Go Green at Home:
Water your lawn less frequently and
more deeply and at night in most areas, to
avoid evaporation – better yet, eliminate
most or all of your lawn and replace with
native species or low maintenance ground
covers.
Filter your water rather than using
bottled. Not only is it cheaper, but you re-
duce the amount of toxic plastic bottles in
circulation.
Eat less meat, which causes the most
environmental harm than any other type of
food production.
Choose your fish carefully. Farm
raised salmon often contaminates wild salm-
on stock with disease and parasites and farm
raised shrimp are sometimes raised in very
polluted water. Also, some seafood species
are dwindling due to overfishing and other
environmental factors.
Eat lower on the food chain. The higher up
you go, the greater the environmental im-
pact. That means more grains and produce.
Besides, it’s better for you anyway.
Buy certified organic or locally grown
food. Less chemicals, less impact from
transportation and delivery, respectively.
Whenever practical, walk or ride your
bike. For trips less than 2 miles, it actually
takes less time to bike it.
Combine car trips. Instead of several
smaller trips, make one larger trip and run
all your errands at once. Or join forces with
a neighbor or two!
Try car-pooling to work one day a
week. If it works for you, add more.
Never let your car idle. If you’re not
driving - shut the engine.
Use post-consumer, recycled content
products, such as paper, napkins, toilet
paper, tissues, and more.
Most of these tips were contributed by
Elizabeth Striano Consultant and writer
on sustainability and the environment.
