Dear All,

It’s a pleasure to be back with you in FEEL, 17-18 fiscal first edition.. My compliments to all of you for managing to touch the fin-ishing line in the last fiscal year. Year 2016 was tough because of many extraneous factors & all of us are still struggling to come out of it. Though it was tough, we @ FEI Sales made it look even tougher. We were fortunate for the brilliant rear guard action of our “Finance Sales” staff who adeptly handled the challenges & made us look reasonably respectable with our performance. Last few years of stellar performance, probably made us complacent & the miserable 16-17 sales result was the desired knock on our knuckles to look within & evaluate our resources. The two questions that comes out openly are –

Are we rightly staffed to sell our legacy products? Do we have the skill set, competencies to move to the Factory Automation, Process Automation & Visualisation market which are surely the market growth drivers.

Our sales & project team leaders including the writer failed miserably to guide their respective teams to the path of glory & fame! So, we were compelled to make a ruthless evaluation of the resources with us & overhaul our business model. We have freed 30 % of our sales force for business development activities, fortified our strategic alliances & stretched ourselves to reach the areas that we perceived were difficult. Completion of two shore crane jobs @ Krishnapatnam & Goa, a caster @ VISL, a sinter plant @ NMDC, numerous energy saving missions & a first in laser analyser are cases in example.

As we move into the uncertainty of second quarter due to the new tax regime, we are brazing ourselves with lot of activities in the form of new learnings, introduction of new product & solution launches during Automation & Pharmaceutical exhibition @ Mumbai & Hyderabad respectively. Service Sales is a roaring success along with our journey in Social Infrastructure. You will hear more about these applications in the ensuing CP Net.

Some of the accomplishments that were achieved in the first quarter of this financial year were –

Channel Partner meet of 40+ CP’s on 15th April @ Leela. Gala night attended by the CP’s & more than 20 attendees from FEJ,FEF. Glittering display of FEI talent @ Leela Hotel during Co – Day. Release of new Employee Handbook along with new Staff Welfare Policy. Sales meet @ Aurangabad coupled with Jalna customers meet. DCS hands on training @ CC for more than 25 FEI-tes. Warranty management training for 35 Channel partners. GST training for all FEI Sales staff & 25 CP’s. Agreement with FLS Automation for Cement Vertical. FEI Board Meeting & FGEM Board meeting. Winding up of RE locations @ Vizag & Vadadora.

I’m certain that all these activities would have laid solid foundation for Growth & Profitability even though we had hiccups in the first quarter.

Good luck to all & happy learning of GST tricks. Also note, that FEEL is best read on soft copy & not necessarily in print if the printer is not aligned properly.

GST Readiness - Ashesh Nandi

Fuji Electric (India)Pvt.Ltd

The GST Council has affirmed the roll out of GST from July 1, 2017. With this, any expectation of further postponement of the appointed date has been put to rest. The next GST Council Meeting will be on June 30, 2017 just before the biggest tax reform sees light of the day. With GST rolling out, Information Technology is a key area for organisation .Knowledge build-up on GST, study of business cases, imparting training to staff and post-implementation compliance readiness are the other major areas that need serious attention.

FEI has always a challenge due to duel accounting software, i.e. MOTHER and Navision and due to day-to-day interface between the software. Due to duel software systems and their interface, FEI has gigantic task to complete for GST readiness. Let’s look at the readiness of FEI so far in all the above aspects.

• FEI formed GST Committee with relevant staff representing various department. The cross functional committee mem-bers, after various sessions have developed sufficient knowledge on GST and process of implementation.

• FEI obtained GST registration no for Maharashtra and Haryana. FEI will take GST registration for other FEI locations at the time when it is permitted by the Government.

• FEI, in coordination with KPMG, Direction Software and FITC, has modified the Customer Master, Vendor Master, Item Master as per requirement of GST Rules.

• FEI, on validation of KPMG, changed the Invoice Format as per GST Rules.

• FEI, is aware and prepared to timely filing of GST-TRANS-1 for transition of CVD/SAD input credit on one year old trading inventory as on 30th June 2017, Excise input credit, Service Tax input credit and VAT input credit.

• FEI is ready to address the business cases, comprising of movement of materials for DEMO purposes, for free Sample, for Free warranty, Sales Return, Partial or Full advance from customer in GST regime. FEI is ready to tackle the issue of current stock lying as DEMO purposes across the country within GST rules.

• FEI completed training to all its commercial staffs & stake holders.

• FEI will provide GST training in the FEI’s IT system operational staff on 5th & 6th July & has engaged Direction Software for the purpose.

• FEI has planned Server downtime on 4th July 2017 for GST. Navision Software will be ready for transactions with GST from 5th July 2017 and MOTHER will be ready from 10th July 2017 as per the earliest schedule approved by FITC. • E-Way bill [kind of road permit] that needs to be generated by the sender of goods or by its transporter, remains a chal-lenge. • Compliance also remains a challenge. Return filings, Data upload should be in the required fashion and in the required codification and can be uploaded in GSTN by GSPs [GST Suvidha Provider] approved under GST Act. ASP [Application Service Pro-vider] – GSP’s service will be required to upload returns in GSTN. To conclude, FEI is ready to face the challenge and hopeful to remain successful though initial opera-tional hiccups cannot be ruled out.

Employee Engagement and Welfare Activities-Sneha / Aishwarya / Rafique

FUJI ELECTRIC (INDIA) PVT.LTD

FEI believes that Employee engagement is a workplace approach resulting in the right conditions for all members of an organi-zation to give of their best each day. It is based on trust, integrity, two way commitment and communication between an orga-nization and its members and leads to success. We celebrated Coming of Age day, which is basically our Company day on 16th April 2017. FEI matured to be 133 member organization with a sales of more than Rupees 1.75 billion --- which could have been more, if the last quarter industrial climate remained the same as it was in the first 9 months.

The Company Day in its 3rd year of celebration demonstrated it to be a great aid to work-life balance that encourages employees to bring their professional and personal lives together in a positive way. On this day FEI also recognized its employees for their wonderful performance with various sets of awards like E-Front Runner Awards, Best Employee Award, Best Department Award and Long term association award. Employees and their families got a chance to showcase their talent through our program “Fuji Got Talent”.

We also had Yoshihiro Kawakami from Overseas Human Resource Department, who unfolded the results of Global Employee Sur-vey & we are proud to inform that FEI employees rated the company on all parameters above the overall global company scores. Proud to be a Fuji-ite!

New friendlier Employee Handbook was launched along with enhanced "Staff Welfare- Health & Wellness Policy" program. Under this policy, eligible FEI employees can undergo a comprehensive Medical Health check-up at a reputed hospital. We are on the verge of implementing Lunch Coupons through Sodexo for the employees who are mainly on the field job while @ their base location.

FEI restructured it’s Sales Organisation in April & effective June 1 we are further tweaking the Sales operation @ Hyderabad , where a bigger office was taken to house the transferred employee of Vizag & @ Ahmedabad where the resident engineers of Vadadora are moving to the existing office in Ahmedabad. Kolkata office has one more engineer to cover the Orissa region. Cen-tral Region will now have a Resident Service & Application engineer along with the Territory Manager.

Administration & IT Departments took strong initiatives to enhance efficacy & bring down the cost. Recently we have upgraded Airtel data plan with new plan in which employees are getting daily 1GB data uses + 5GB for overall month means total 35 GB data uses per month. IT department is working hard to provide strong IT services to all FEI members. We have upgraded HO internet bandwidth limit from 5 GB to 10 GB. From next month, we will also start the upgradation work in our Drive Factory. We are also implementing PRI solution in Bhiwandi due to which enhance communication & conferencing facility will be available. Moreover, We have implemented Dell DDP Solution in FEI for all employees which helps in Encryption of Data and protects it from unknown threat.

Surely we are on a ROLL !

‘While the going gets tough, the tough gets going ‘.The saying keeps me and the TEAM in good stead, and here is one such tough situation facing the region. As usual, the TEAM put up a brave face during the aftermath of Cyclone in Chennai or the Chinese encroachment on our existing OEM business or the de-monetisation effect to reflect a small growth year on year. The new chal-lenge will be the market chemistry with the onslaught of GST in the short term.FGEM came as a whiff of fresh air and the month of December saw two opportunities totalling 10MINR plus coming our way. The region followed up with the biggest HVAC order in January and our focus in discrete PLC selling brought in good dividends in Chennai. In between we were able to spruce up the numbers with some good volume of solar inverter business.

Successful demos for very critical applications with the Customer’s existing old slip-ring motors promises and opens up huge opportunities in Steel and Shipyards, Instrumentation business so far has seen a good offtake of analysers, controllers and UFM modules. Our deeper association with FLS & Chemtrol is bound to bring in good results.

Many in the TEAM, including the GETs have settled in well in their positions and promises to deliver better results. The end-user segment under the leadership of Venkat & Srihari needs further momentum and we seem to be heading in the right direction in few large opportunities. Last two months of the first quarter of this fiscal was challenging & acted as the knock on our knuckles to make us tougher and ambitious for the remaining part of the year. We need to have a relook @ the Vizag operation & the same would have been done by the time the write-up reaches you..

We will also have a new look Tamilnadu OEM team under the leadership of Sunil with the movement of Shalini in the lift do-main, Arbind’s transfer to Kolkata office & Senthil’s departure from the organisation. We expect 2 engineers in OEM team to join us in Chennai & one Instrumentation engineer for South operation by Mid July. The team is gearing up to rebuild & deliver on all

Function Team MembersWest -1 Samir Mhadalekar & Subhash PatilWest -2 Gautam G., Sachin C., Hardik B.

First Quarter of Year 17-18 is becoming challenging due to various external business sentiments like GST implementation & inventory evaluation. Major business of west region is from product sales of OEM’s & they are the ones significantly affected by these external factors.

So, to overcome this challenge, migration to Solution Business becomes necessity. And for that Process Automation will become Key Driver. Hence, in the month of April, FEI rolled out revitalized organization with some changes which can create focus on uncovered business areas. In line with FEI strategy, West Region rebuilt sales organization and created well experienced End User team. This team already started harnessing focused Market by keeping in mind collation and generation of Drive system and Pro-cess Automation cases. We have more than Rs 20 million prospects in the pipeline. Service Sales has started paying dividend & we have received some very profitable orders. I am sure that having received the strategic direction, our team will run with much faster in the remaining part of the year.

Below is the experienced WR team for driving Process Automation and Drive System business & combinedly they have more than 50 man years of customer interaction experience.

Kick Start with End User- Vishal Vadalia

We are bound to succeed!

Stepping into new financial year with objectives setting exercise at Aurangabad, I am sure you are energetic and confident to march towards business goal. FEI Factory have completed Line-B (3.7kw ACE) to cover all range of geared lift drive in March 2017. FY16 was year for establishing Make In India and made for India. Now the focus is on operational efficiency improvement through KAIZEN (continuous improvement program).

Quality is top most priority in all Fuji Electric factories and India drive factory has fully adopted this religion. Every member of factory is responsible for Quality and committed to follow discipline to dispatch quality product. Below graph shows the trend of defects rate from Jan to May 2017 for both manufacturing lines at important stage of Soldering and Final QC.

Marching ahead in Manufacturing – Yogesh Dalvi

We are working to bring more products into manufacturing to expand make in India program. On another piece of relevant mat-ter, I’m pleased to inform you that the core team of ISO 9000 is working hard to complete the certification .

In any manufacturing process line stages, Attempt is to identify defect at earlier stage. Because earlier the defect is noticed, lesser is the cost of rejection. Conscious attention of self-inspection by operator at every stage is the key factor apart from QC inspector’s skill to achieve Quality Objectives of factory. Weekly Quality meeting with teleconference with FMT & SUZUKA is the forum to debate, share and adopt best practices within FE group. These are our strengths.

We faced delay of component supply in April for 3.7kw ACE due to design enhancement. The new design was requirement for lift industry such as orientation change of terminal board and can-open feature. Continuous improvement is our religion in every aspect like quality, design, productivity. Factory is making below feature enhanced products in manufacturing assembly line.

We will overcome the challenges of last two quarters - Mahendra Chalke

Dear friends,

As we come to the close of 1st Quarter of this fiscal, we are about to overcome the multiple challenges face by us due to the delivery & quality issues across the platform coupled by GST & it’s inventory effect, the confusion due to delay in finalising the multiplicity of harmonised tariff codes & it’s rate. We also had to cope up with a challenging rate of attrition. Though, vacancies have been filled up but the process of Fujidisation will be completed by the Independence Day.

The Financial Year started with a bang ! April was the month of CP Meet, Company day, celebrated @ Leela Mumbai followed by a train joy ride to Aurangabad for two days of Sales Meet, which usually provides lot of confidence till it tapers down. The new organisation was launched & few of the key focus areas were Process Automation, End User & Process OEM focus & Focus on Service Sales. Prakash Rawal was identified as the PIC to lead the Channel Management Program, Neha will lead our foray into Social Infrastructure. Dead woods identified & corrective action is on the way. You will soon see a new look D&A .Two young turks under the hawk eye of Prabal are preparing to launch the New Micro & small PLC’s/ Motion Controller. Having completed the major projects of Drive Centric project in the form of VSP, Mukand, KPCT, Deepak Phenolic & few others, the focus shifts to field engineering & site services. I’m sure that the revamped EU team in South, West & North coupled with HVAC will bring in new business for configured drives.

In the first two months of this fiscal, we dispatched the DMRC Frenic HVAC 200nos. During the same period myself along with Paresh Patil visited Thailand & Suzuka factory with a customer & our HVAC Channel Partner. I had the opportunity of attending the Global Drive Meeting during this time.I assure you that we will recover from all the wounds of last 2 quarters & will be back in course for the marathon with prudent business & financial planning. So, We as ONE FEI team should be geared up to deliver our Year End Target and Singing only one Slogan as,

Sell Sell Sell !!!!.

Green Building with Regenerative Lift Drive System- Ajay Bhosale

Fuji Electric (India)Pvt.Ltd P-

“ Go Green” agenda focuses on reducing energy consumption. Buildings consume about 40% of the world’s energy, and elevators account for 2%–10% of a building’s energy consumption. During peak usage hours, elevators may utilize up to 40% of the build-ing’s energy.

The concept of green building aims to educate about the intersection of green technologies with energy efficient elevators. New innovations are leading to the introduction of energy efficient elevators that not only consume less energy, but also produce clean energy.

Regenerative drive can harness and save energy in multiple ways .......

1) When the elevator slows down, it applies brakes and energy is created. In a conventional elevator system, that energy is dissipated as heat through a heat resister.

2) Further, when an empty or a lightly loaded elevator goes up, the motor spins but the elevator’s counterweight does most of the work. The regenerative drive harnesses that spinning energy by transforming mechanical power into electrical power.

3) When a heavy elevator goes down, the motor spins but gravity does most of the work. The regenerative drive again har-nesses that spinning energy by transforming mechanical power into electrical power. There is an additional energy savings that results from eliminating the need to cool equipment that gets exposed to excess heat generated by conventional motors.

Over the time these small amounts of harnessed and saved power on a daily basis add up to significant energy savings. Gener-ally, a regenerative drive can reduce energy consumption between 20% and 40%. The ultimate amount of energy savings de-pends on several variables including: length of trips, frequency and pattern of use, and age of equipment. Overall, the longer the traveled distances and the greater the number of trips result in the greater generated energy. Frenic Lift with RHC regenerative braking could be one of the major contributor to the concept of Green Building, Fuji Electric was invited by Elevator and Escala-tor Expo in Ahmedabad in April 2017 for a talk on Control & Automation for Elevator Industry. After the eclectic discussion we were invited by Ahmedabad Metro officials to guide and present seminar on Energy Efficient lift to the Ahmedabad Metro Team . Our team did a wonderful job in presenting the concepts & specification of the required Drive System.

A journey to succeed-Prakash Rawal

I am blessed with the opportunity to lead the recent Channel partners meet and thereafter to implement the Channel Manag-ers role. Coming from a field sales background catering to the End User needs , the task was herculean. The days were long, the nights were short, planning the travel was strenuous & execution was mind boggling.

The strenuous task of agreed & signed MAP a has been accomplished. It was not facile to make an itinerary and then to go on field to fulfil the same. It necessitated studying and understanding the demographics of our incredible India and thereafter to “plan on the work ” and then “work on the plan”. The task got accomplished in 25 days with tireless effort of more than 75+ MAP signing by working all mentioned days.

The road map of MAP signing started with Mumbai & then Chennai – Pune – Aurangabad – Surat – Baroda – Ahmedabad – Ra-jkot – Ahmedabad – Delhi – Jaipur – Bhilwara – Delhi - Panipat – Chandigarh – Kolkata – Bangalore – Hyderabad – Chennai – Co-imbatore – Mumbai. I never dreamt of accomplishing such a travel without getting tired & getting time to fall sick. Because of the summer vacation mad rush, flexibility of rerouting the journey & the destination was a remote possibility & so everything had to happen with clockwork precision.

The dissection of verticals which was targeted by regional MAP’s were ;-West – Packaging, Chemical, Automobile, Metals, Paper, plastics, SPM, Ceramic, Crane, Pharma, Textile, Machine tools, Solar, Elevator, Tyre, Cold storages, Glass and Panel builders.

North – Automobile, Paper, Sugar, Machine tools, Cement, Packaging, SPM, Pharma, F&B, Metals, Textile, Panel builder, Solar, Chemical, Stone cutting, Glass.

East & Central– Metals, Mining, Rice mills, Power plants, Elevators, Cement, Food processing.

South – Pharma, Textile, SPM, Glass, Food,Cement, Power, Rubber, Packaging, Cranes, Automobile, Water, Printing and Packing.

In spite of so many internal product challenges and external factors viz. post demonetization and unknown fall out of GST regime; my task is to ensure 35% growth propulsion for CP’s business The strategic alliances with FLS & Chemtrols is out of my perview @ the present.

MAP policy has been explained to each & every Channel Partner with all rules, tools and insights. Channel financing scheme is also in the verge of getting finalised. Channels are optimistic for collaborating with FEI sales to achieve the targeted numbers & also to collaborate with promotional activities in the domain of enhancing market visibility. At a staggering population of 1.25 billion out of the 6.5billion people on the planet, India represents the fastest growing mar-ket for Infrastructure Development and thus for lift. Elevator & Escalator market in India is projected to grow at a CAGR of 8.1% during 2017-23.

The reasons for this growth are due to –

• Increase in number of high rise buildings, • Expansion and construction of airports and metros, • Construction of malls and hotels across the country especially in tier 1 & 2 cities, and • Increasing acceptance in residential sector.

Indian market Segment can be divided into four major segments.....

Geared Lift Drive Market-Shalini

Geared Lift market which was traditionally 63% of the total market share is now shifting towards the gearless machines due to cost competitiveness and the ride comfort. But still 60% market is there with the geared lift.

This Geared lift drive business is influenced by following features .......

Segment Stop Line Speed

Type of Lift

Low rise open loop 2-8 0.5 to 0.7 GearedLow Rise Close loop 2-15 0.6-1.5 Geared Close Loop/Gearless

Mid Rise 16-25 1.5 GearlessHigh Rise >25 >1.5 Gearless

Fuji Electric (India)Pvt.Ltd P-

Looking at the market need for faster delivery, upgraded software & to cater to auxiliary functions of the lift, ride comfort, Fuji Electric India started Manufacturing “ ACE-Lift” drives under make in India initiative. In spite of aggressively poised Chinese players in Geared market, our CP’s grew by 33% & FEI could manage to overcome the loss of a major OEM.

My learning & experience with the Marcom tools -Shampa

Dear All, I’m fortunate enough that within very few months, I’ve learnt a lot on Photoshop, Illustrator & Indesign. These three software are mainly required to create any design on catalogue, newsletter or magazines, hooding, poster etc. These softwares either singly or in combinations are used to complete an artwork / layout like. I use the same for CP Net, Catalogues, Feel Newsletter etc. Through this write up, I wanted to share my journey with these softwares & the comparatives. Earlier I used to use only AI, which did not serve the purpose entirely & nor did it provide me the flexibility. But, today with the usage of a combination of tools , I’m able to fulfil the indentor’s needs much better. Let me provide you a brief of the same along with it’s advantages & disadvantages .

Project Management from an Automation Supplier's perspective- A.K.M

Fuji Electric (India)Pvt.Ltd P-19

The purpose of this article is to familiarize the FEI fraternity with some of the emerging needs of professional project handling - Project management is the discipline of initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing the work of a team to achieve spe-cific goals and meet specific success criteria.

A traditional phased approach of Project management identifies a sequence of steps to be completed. In the "traditional ap-proach", five developmental components of a project can be distinguished .Typical development phases of an engineering project will consist of: (a) initiation (b) planning and design (c) execution and construction (d) monitoring and controlling mech-anisms and (e) completion. Many industries use variations of these project stages. For example, when working on a Control & Instrumentation job, projects will typically progress through stages like,

a. Assigning a Project Manager and arranging a Project kick-off meeting (initiation).

b. Core project work to decide the conceptual and schematic design, and development of “standardized typicals” to be followed throughout the tenure of the job.

c. Individual area design development, and construction drawings. Assessing the risks and risk management.

d. Monitoring the progress in line with contract documents, and contract administration.Project Manager remains the single identified source responsible for managing the project in defined lines of contract and should necessarily be the single window of communication between the contracting and contracted company. The Project Man-ager carries the responsibility of the planning, execution, controlling, and closing of the project and assigns responsibility to his team members. A project manager is the person accountable for accomplishing the stated project objectives.

Key Points in Project set up and definition....

(a) Create Project Management Plan (PMP)..to be clear of scope and objectives

(b) Establish clear statement of what is to be done…a work breakdown structure (WBS) (c) Establish Risks to be Managed

(d) Establish Costs and Durations

(e) Establish Resources Required

(f) Establish a Clear Project Closing Plan

Project Management is a big & serious subject & cannot be covered in FEEL. Those who need to know more, I suggest them to read Nine Tips for Automation Project Managers-By Jeanne Schweder.

Our normal day in life is full of challenges and constraints and the same is very much applicable in our Project Department. Each day however small the issue is, it needs to be managed against the constraints of time, cost and quality effectively to meet the customer satisfaction.

I come from a background of hands on experience in Engineering and Project Management during my stints at previous com-panies in both India and abroad where huge emphasis was placed on high quality engineering / project execution/ doing things right the first time. This was majorly due to the global nature of projects that I was exposed to & in such environment, ideas and best practices were collated from various team members/ customers from their current and previous experiences. After spending 7 years in the Middle East region wherein I was exposed to a plethora of experiences as mentioned above, I de-cided it was time to return back to my homeland and be a part of the India Growth Story which is currently at its full momentum and is further going to go way up. My Vision and objective is to further strengthen our Project Department in the form of build-ing strong processes, standard documentation procedures and ensuring high quality of our services. Apart from this my major aim is to enhance the profitability of our projects via proper tendering, engineering optimization during execution, negotiation with vendors and timely risk management. Finally these factors will lead to our key objective of achieving customer satisfaction.

Success in ITC Paperboards Power Plant, Coimbatore- Srihari

Fuji Electric (India)Pvt.Ltd P-

We tasted a sweet success @ ITC Paperboards located in Mettupalayam near Coimbatore. The plant capacity is 300 TPD specialty paper & has a 8 MW power plant is with Thermax Boiler and Triveni Turbine. Paper Mill along with the Power Plant was commis-sioned in year 2006. For the power plant, Yokogawa had supplied the DCS and CEMS. In one of our sales call in August 2015, we discussed with their Plant person to know that the current Yokogawa Analyser was not working and had faults in display assembly board, SOx detector and Main board . Yokogawa addressed the quality complaint by offering spares and services at a price of a new Analyser module, which compelled ITC to look for better viable solutions from equivalent and quality vendors.

While, Chemtrols quoted SICK :IN-SITU analyser and nearly convinced the ITC plant to go with the same stating benefits on the offered solution . We pitched in timely and offered them a solution similar to the existing one. Our proposal offered the following advantages:

1. The proposed Fuji analyser - ZRE analyser were equivalent to Yokogawa IR400 analyser module in terms of the dimension also.

2. We utilised our Channel Partner to Check the conditions of the sample handling system, heated hose and probe , which were found to be ok except the IR400 analyser module.

3. We proposed ZRE analyser equivalent to the Yokogawa IR400 analyser and convinced them the cost benefit and utilisa-tion of the existing sample handling system.

Customer accepted the advantages of cost saving of more than 15 Lakhs coupled with the utilization of the existing good GA system except for the analyser module.

Customer placed an order of ZRE (SOX, NOX,CO ) & is the first in ITC group to be the user of our Gas Analysers.

We need to know RERA- Prakash Rawal

RERA is real estate act and to regulate the real estate sector, the government has come up with the idea of Real Estate Regulato-ry Authority (RERA) Bill which is expected to help buyers. RERA is supposed to protect the interest of the homebuyer and ensure timely delivery of projects. Although RERA is a central law, its implementation will depend on state governments, as real estate is a state subject. Maharashtra government had approved the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) and is effect-ed from 1st May 2017.

• Under RERA, each state will have to setup regulatory bodies as appellate tribunals to solve the disputes between buyer and builder within 120 days.

• Developer will have to put 70% of the money collected from a buyer in a separate account to meet the construction cost of the project.

• RERA will make it mandatory for all commercial and residential real estate projects where the land is over 500 sq. mt. or eight apartments will have to register with the regulator before launching a project.

• RERA also seeks to impose strict regulations on the promoter and ensure that construction is completed on time.

• Carpet area has been clearly defined in the bill to include usable spaces like kitchen and toilets imparting clarity which was not the case earlier.

• A developer’s liability to repair structural defects has been increased to 5 years from the earlier 2 years.

• The buyer will pay only for the carpet area (area within walls). The builder can’t charge for the super built-up area, launch.as is the practice at present.

• Developers will be able to sell projects only after the necessary clearances. Under RERA, builders and agents will have to register themselves with the regulator and get all projects with more than eight apartments registered before. • To enable informed decisions by buyers, Real Estate Regulatory Authorities will ensure publication on their websites in-formation relating to profile and track record of promoters, details of litigations, advertisement and prospectus issued about the project, details of apartments, plots and garages, registered agents and consultants, development plan, financial details of the promoters, status of approvals and projects etc.

It is important to get ourselves educated so that we do not get duped by the unscrupulous builders on Pan India basis.

It all started with a ‘Proposed CP’ in Chennai exploring our capability to provide a motion solution in an application where only Trio Motion Controller boasted success while all others failed. The application was a Dye Punching Machine for printed Paper Cups and the expected speed was more than 300 cuts per minute. Trio controller provided 280 to 290 Cuts per Minute.

FE took up this challenge and had a detailed discussion with the OEM & CP for almost 2months. Ultimately the confidence was gained to win the Order on “Proof of Concept” basis.

Thereafter, the going was tough since our Supply Chain was closed due to annual stock taking, internal audit followed by CP meet, Company Day & Sales Meet @ Aurangabad. Moreover the OEM had a delivery dead-line & our application team was en-countering technical challenges and were leaning on Japan’s expertise to wriggle out of it. The OEM lost hope and dispatched his machine with his existing brand of motion products.

As a commitment to the cause FEI flew in a Japanese expert to visit the OEM site @ Madurai. Since the OEM had a running ma-chine within his factory we requested him to spare the machine. Our Motion expert Vishal Dave and Karuna travelled to Madurai to keep the machine ready and conducted relevant trials. While testing, the motor rating was suspected to be low & replaced on war footing basis. Our Japanese Engineer reached site and rectified the function block bug. The machine roared to success with 430 cuts / minute without paper. The final testing was done at 320Cuts per minute with paper and the OEM was immensely happy. We could not run beyond that speed due to mechanical constraints and paper tear off.

The learning was huge & thanks to all the team members.

New developments in the FEI’s capabilities in Crane vertical-Biju Paul

Role of SLIP RING in Level Luffing Crane:

In a level luffing crane, conventional Slip-Rings are used for both power & signal flow between lower e-room & upper e-room which can rotate 360°

Challenges faced due to SLIP RING: Floating grounds due to moving machine, higher noise level due to rotating power contacts and, presence of mixed sig-nals make any standard communication protocol to be less reliable in such electrical environments.

Fuji Electric FA (Asia) Co., Ltd Solution:Special multiplexing modules were used for control sig-nal flow between lower e-room & upper e-room. These modules works on time division multiplexing principle and combines many discrete signals into 2 lines while transmit-ting and de-multiplex at the receiving end. Signal levels are increased up to a maximum of 100Volts to minimize trans-mission losses and increase noise immunity.

With the success of the mighty STS jobs executed in Turkey coupled with the supply completion of LLF crane for Goa project and factory acceptance test of RTG to ERTG retrofit, FEI is on the way to become a Center of Excellence within FE. world.
