Heretaunga Seniors Newsletter Number TWO JUNE 2016
A place of belonging
Our internet hub/cafe in full swing !
It is hard to believe that we are already nearly half way through 2016 and fast approaching Matariki and
the shortest day. One of a our new initiatives for 2016 – our internet hub/cafe – has proved a very popular extension of our Digital Seniors programme and every Tuesday our centre is a hive of activity
with seniors on their tablets, laptops or IPads learning the intricacies of their computer devices. Staying connected with children &/or grandchildren
in other parts of the world, helping people to understand the internet, attach photos to their emails, master facebook and/or skype, is a big part
of what our digital programmes help to do. Teaching at a pace that suits each learner is the key and we can help those who are complete beginners right through to those with more advanced skills.

Mihi - Our Housie night
CALLER par excellence
One of our fun ac+vi+es this year was to have a produce, preserves and home baking auc+on. Members, staff and volunteers all brought along goods they had grown or made themselves and those who wished took part in bidding for things they wanted. Popular were passionfruit, damson plum jam, shortbread, garlic, pickles and apple cucumbers. To our amazement we
made over $400 in under an hour as well as having a lot of fun in the process.
Special thanks to these local businesses & community groups who sponsored our housie night
Heretaunga Seniors - Bus Trip -May 2016
On Wednesday 11 May - a balmy Autumn Hawkes Bay day - 60 of our seniors boarded a bus and two vans to travel along the back of Te Mata Peak and Tuki Tuki Road to enjoy the splendour of the autumn colours that adorned the vineyards and the roadside. After reaching Haumoana for an added glimpse of the sea, we headed back inland through Whakatu to our final destination - Jarks Cityside where we were treated to a memorable two course meal & the wonderful hospitality of Marianne and her team. ‘Country meets City’ certainly summed up our day!
A big thank you to the Hastings Pioneer Lions whose generous donation made this bus trip possible - a highlight for many of our folk who can no longer drive!

Would you consider becoming a Friend of Heretaunga Seniors (FOHS) & making a monthly or annual DonaWon?
Regular donations do not have to be large and help to relieve the ongoing financial pressure that charitable organisations like us face. $5 per month adds up to $60 per year and we can give you a tax receipt that entitles you to claim
a tax rebate at the end of the financial year. Alternatively - you may prefer to make a single one-off donation.
If you think you could help in either of these ways, or you know of others: family members, friends, businesses etc who may be able to support us with a regular donation, we would be very grateful. If so, please contact us or follow
the instructions below:✂ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
