Tackling Boston on a Budget By Phuong Nguy (South RA)

Boston is a beautiful city but incredibly difficult to live in if you’re juggling a part-time job as a full-time student.

Living in the city means unlimited access to lavish boutiques, fine dining and swanky nightlife scenes. But lets face it; all that means to us college students is expense, expense, EXPENSE!! Which, mind you, we can’t afford. So what is a Simmons student to do in this expensive city? Know the right places to go for the right things. Boston is filled with cheap finds that fit

any budget; you just need to know where to look! Here are some tips and tricks for budget shopping on Newbury Street:

Catch that SALEon Newbury Street!

These stores can be expensive, but if you skip the front and make a bee line towards the back of the store, you’ll find affordable treasure!

1. Urban OutfittersHidden behind the stairs, around the back of the mens department on the second floor is where they keep all their sales! Accessories and T-shirts up to 80% off, dresses up to 50% off

2. So Good JewelryIn small bins and containers scattered around the store, jewelry on sale for $1 to $5

3. 344Downstairs, dresses are on sale for as low as $5, designer shoes found at the expensive LF store across the street is sold for $10-$15 cheaper at 344

4. Second Time AroundA high-end second hand store that sells designer clothes for 50% off or more. Can still be pricey but are great deals for when your grandma sends you a check for your birthday!

Forever 21 and H&MThese two stores are always affordable and offer a wide selection of clothes,

accessories, and shoes currently in fashion. Newbury Street may be known for its high-end boutiques, but Forever 21 and H&M provide you with a designer look without the designer cost. Here is a look that you can try!

Eat fancy, dress fancy, feel fancy but smell fancy?

Lush Cosmetics has solid perfumes for $10 in 8 different scents. Great for carrying around in purses and super long lasting!

Gyro Burgers(About 4 servings)

Ingredients    * 1/2 pound lean ground beef    * 1/2 pound lean ground lamb    * 1/2 onion, grated    * 2 cloves garlic, pressed    * 1 slice bread, toasted and crumbled    * 1/2 teaspoon dried savory    * 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice    * 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander    * 1/2 teaspoon salt    * 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper    * 1 dash ground cumin

Directions   1. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat, and lightly oil grate.   2. In large bowl, combine ground beef, ground lamb, onion, garlic and bread crumbs. Season with savory, allspice, coriander, salt, pepper and cumin. Knead until mixture is stiff. Shape into 4 very thin patties (1/8 inch to 1/4 inch thick). 3. Cook patties for 5 to 7 minutes on each side, or until cooked through.

Do It Yourself!If you can, go for it! It saves money and can be a lot of fun! Invite friends, whip out a camera and make it a night to remember!
