Recertification Credits
Employers Resource Associa-

announce that many of its pro-
grams have been approved for
credit toward recertification of
your SPHR/PHR/GPHR credential
from SHRM/HRCI. Now is your

for credit. Each individual flyer
will be marked with the appropri-
ate number of recertification
credits.

tiations.

tactics to gain advantage
• Utilize counter-tactics to
―defend‖ yourself and your
position
• Influence others without
having to resort to authority or
threat
• Use time to your advantage
• Gather information that is
useful and relevant to the
negotiation
• Factor in and read the negotia-

that to your advantage

basics but need more in-depth
information and guidance about
this seemingly complex federal
law. This program is designed to

Act mandates and regulatory
requirements
• Work with the differences in
how the Department of Labor
(DOL) views FMLA employee

limited DOL interpretations
• Efficiently decipher and comply
with those ―gray areas‖ of
FMLA compliance that com-

violations employers make

Executives spend as much as
80% of their time in meetings;
other managers and supervisors
spend as much as 50% of their
time this way. The trend for the
number of meetings on your
calendar is only going to spiral
upward. While meetings are
often seen as a major time-
waster, there are many tech-
niques that both those leading
and those attending can use to
eliminate much of the ―waste‖.
This program identifies behaviors
that lead to lost time and pro-
vides insight into techniques that
anyone can use to improve the
flow of the meeting, to increase
productivity and to improve
meeting morale.
Learning Objectives
• Calculate the real cost of
meetings
• Develop effective agendas
• Run crisp, relevant meetings
• Techniques to start and end on
time
• Deal with problematic partici-
pants
• Use visuals to improve meet-
ing effectiveness
Who Should Attend?

Employee suits alleging wage and
hour violations are on the rise
and making headlines. In this
program, we will review the
various components of the Fair
Labor Standards Act. The pro-
gram also provides you with a
safe, convenient forum to ask
your FLSA questions. Participants

the FLSA, including a review of
the Department of Labor’s
―overtime/exemption‖ regulations

23, 2004.
Learning Objectives
Have you ever wondered...
• Do we have to pay for work-
related training on– or off-
site?
• Are we supposed to be paying
for travel time on the job or to
and from the job?
• How do we really determine if
an employee is exempt or non
-exempt?
• How long can we ask our
employees to work per day?
• Do we have to schedule and
pay for meal periods or rest
breaks?
• What happens if we’re not in
compliance and we are investi-
gated?
Who Should Attend?

Designed for management of non
-union facilities, this program
offers practical tips of what an
employer should do and cannot
do legally when faced with an
actual or potential union organiz-
ing campaign. In addition, it will
educate managers and supervi-
sors about the differences be-
tween what employees really
want from an employer and what
management thinks they want.
Participants will gain insight into
why employees choose unions
and how successful union-free
companies respond to union
organizing campaigns.
Learning Objectives
• Accurately assess the danger
signs of when a union may be
attempting to organize your
employees
• Share with employees all you
can legally discuss once it
becomes clear that union
organizing is under way
• Factually point out to employ-
ees those areas where union
promises cannot be trusted
• Work within the formal steps
that usually occur under NLRB
procedures for a union to gain
the right to bargain with an
employer on behalf of employ-
ees and be able to respond
accordingly
Who Should Attend?
HR managers, line managers and
supervisors of union-free organi-
zations.

In today’s fast paced work world,
business communications often
get relegated to the written word.
Participants in this timely work-
shop will learn how to send a
clear, positive message and
convey a more professional
image through their emails,
memos, letters and reports. Both
the experienced business writer
who wishes to improve results
and the novice writer who needs
a solid introduction to this skill
will find value in this program.
Participants will practice writing
concise, well-organized, action-
oriented documents that are both
logical and credible. Although
this workshop does NOT attack
challenges with grammar, spell-
ing, syntax or English as a second
language, a useful bonus is the
handy reference material that
participants take away to help
support their new skills back at
work.
Learning Objectives
• Utilize a four-step method to
plan, write, edit and format
your business correspondence
• Convey positive and negative
messages professionally
• Establish and maintain good-
will with recipients of written
material
• Write more effectively and
confidently, under even severe
time pressure
