Not all India school transport is like this but this is “for real”.

Secondary Education in Indiamillion young people who join the labour force every year with the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes and experiences to enable them to access these better paying jobs.

India, however, does not compare favourably with its global competitors in terms of the overall educational attainments of its people.

Even countries like Vietnam and Bangladesh which have lower per capita incomes than India, have higher gross enrollment rates (GER) in secondary schools. India’s GER in secondary school is 40% compared to 70% in East Asia and 82% in Latin America.

In today’s global knowledge economy, education plays a vital role in determining a country’s economic growth and its people’s standards of living. Importantly, evidence from around the world suggests that secondary education is critical for breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty, providing huge beneficial impacts on health, raising the marriage age, reducing fertility rates, and improving child rearing practices.

Education also enables countries and their people succeed in the 21st century world. In India, the maximum job growth in recent years has taken place in the skilled services and manufacturing sectors. The country therefore needs to provide the 12

A Jesus ParableLuke 10:25-37

BEING A GOOD SAMARITAN IN INDIA

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” He asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”26”What is written in the law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”27 He answered: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your stength and with all your mind’a: and, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’b”28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”29 But he wanted to justify himself , so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbour?”30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33But a Samaritan, as he travelled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34He went to him and bandaged his wounds pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. 35The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”37The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

It Can Be Done !

A High School In IndiaJune 2010

My beloved EHC friend,

We are so very grateful to God for you.

Your love and partnership with us in preaching the Gospel and helping the poor is greatly appreciated so very, very much.

You will be blessed to know that according to the Bible you have God’s approval in helping the poor and preaching the Gospel.

Yes, the most important thing of all is ... what did Jesus think about the poor? How important was this subject to Him? I have included His thoughts from Luke 10 on page 5.

And how did this relate to preaching the Gospel?

It is our main responsibility to preach the “Gospel” and that is true ..we must be careful not to neglect the preaching of the Gospel so people have every opportunity to know Christ and go to heaven when they die. This is desperately important.

The last command Jesus gave His disciples was to “go and make discples of all nations” Matthew 28:19 and we must obey.

6

Page 7: June2010

But there is so much in the Bible about “helping the poor” we must not neglect the poor either.

The parable of the good Samaritan is powerful in Luke 10:25-37 when you read it carefully. Jesus is saying some things we rarely think Jesus said.

In reading Luke 10:25-37 the parable of the good Samaritan you will be blessed and will know of God’s approval in helping the poor .

In Acts 24:17 Paul says “I came to Jerusalem to bring my people gifts for the poor.” This is Paul’s example.

For me, its always important to know that something is “God’s will!”

We don’t want to expediently be asking people for money for things that are not in line with God’s will.

That is why over the years at Every Home for Christ we have taken responsibility for the preaching of the Gospel with an aim to take a gospel booklet to every home on earth and at the same time we have taken responsibility for helping the poor.

Both are in-line with what God requires of us.

And the “poor” are many. 456 million in India alone.

The total population of the United States of America.

Jesus told the parable of the good Samaritan in Luke 10 and in verses 31-32 He told of a Priest and a Levite who saw a man who had been stripped of his clothes and beaten and left half dead by robbers and both the priest and the Levite when they saw the man they “passed by on the other side.”

Will we leave the poor, the lame, the uneducated in their poverty “and pass by on the other side” too as if they don’t exist?

Then in verses 33-35 Jesus told of a Samaritan who, when He saw the man who had been beaten by the robbers, “bandaged his wounds and took him to the innkeeper to look after him, accepting responsibility for the payment to the innkeeper.

Yes, and when we saw the poverty and illiteracy in India and learnt there were 304 million illiterate people in India who could not write their own name and would spend the rest of their life begging and working hard for almost nothing...

We spent thousands of dollars and trained India Every Home Crusade staff to conduct adult literacy and arithmetic classes for thousands of people all across India.

7

Page 8: June2010

Then 5 years ago we had a piece of land given to India Every Home Crusade as a gift and we agreed to build a primary school.

This was something that grabbed our hearts when we saw children who so desperately needed a future but had no chance of ever getting out of poverty.

This was our opportunity to help them get out of poverty by building a primary school.

Children like the one pictured here look so good in their EHC school uniforms and look so different with their socks rolled down to their ankles and even though this is not the way that we would do it exactly, nevertheless, they look so “cute” yet they are so very, very poor.

Their fathers are receiving $1-$2 a day and some fathers are only getting 10 days work a month. With $20-$30 a month they feed and pay all family expenses.

They live in a mud house with a mud floor and thatched leaves for a roof or in a one room concrete house.

And although these children are A+ students getting 90%-100% in their exams they will never learn English properly, go to a university or learn a trade if Every Home for Christ does not build a High School

We have started their education in primary school but we can not completely help them unless we have a high school.

Please help them. Eric Leach

N estled between the Islamic giant

Indonesia and modern, economically flourishing Australia, the relatively small island of Timor, with its many mountains and flowing streams, floats atop the South China Sea and the Indian Ocean. The island is divided politically, historically and culturally—the west side of the island belonging to Indonesia and the east side of the island belonging to East Timor.

EAST TIMORReaching 442 Villages in 90 Days!

Visiting every home with gospel literature

for the first time in its history the nation of one million people has the opportunity and ability to see its country grow and develop according to the will of the

Timorese people. East Timor is one of the newest nations on earth, having officially gained its independence only a few years ago. The Timorese have

suffered greatly in recent decades. As a result of Indonesian occupation in the 1970s, more than 200,000 Timorese were massacred and many of its women

While in the past East Timor was plagued by foreign occupation, war, and general devastation,

9

Page 10: June2010

were brutally raped. At the time the population was only 600,000, which means a third of the entire region perished. More than 70 percent of East Timor’s infrastructure was laid to waste as a result of the occupation and ensuing unrest, and currently over half the population is unemployed, one of the highest percentages for all of South East Asia.Although over 85 percent of East Timor’s inhabitants claim to be Catholic, it is clear that this is a traditional belief system with the vast majority having no personal relationship with Christ. Most Timorese turned to Catholicism simply to break away from the Muslim belief held by the vast majority of Indonesians.East Timor’s time for an Every Home Campaign clearly has come. The brand new EHC work began April 1 and plans to reach every household over approximately 90 days. This ambitious outreach essentially will provide an entire coverage to all homes in East Timor, representing 442 villages. During a recent strategy meeting led by EHC National Director for Indon-esia, Pastor Karl, more than 20 church leaders in East Timor met to discuss and plan the outreach. At this meeting Pastor

Karl introduced the vision of Every Home for Christ and discussed the plan to do a systematic evangelistic outreach in their nation, something never attempted before.During this time they also did some statistical studies of East Timor in order to map out where they would begin and how long it would take to reach every home in every village and town systematically. Believing that prayer can remove all obstacles, Pastor Karl joined many of these key leaders in “prayer walking” throughout several strategic areas of East Timor.Presently 40 field evangelists are taking the Gospel from home to home, village to village, to the entire population of East Timor in as little as 90 days from the time the outreach begins. They will also work with many volunteers and the churches in doing extensive follow-up and planting numerous Christ Groups where no churches have ever existed. This significant outreach is vital in this former region of Indonesia because East Timor is an emerging democracy.
