DistancesOrder From The Sun- Jupiter is the 5th closest planet from the sun

Distance From Jupiter To The Sun- 77,830,000,000 Km

Distance From Jupiter To Earth- 588,000,000 Km

Jupiter’s Measurements

Mass- 1,898,130,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Kg

Volume- 1,431,281,810,739,380 Km3

Density- 1.326 g/cm3

Measurements ContinuedWould Jupiter Float or Sink in Water?- Jupiter would sink because it is too massive and heavy. Plus, the planet would be bigger than any body of water.

Gravity- 24.79 m/s2

Jupiter’s Orbit and Rotation

How long it takes for Jupiter to Orbit the Sun- About 12 Earth Years or 4,333 Earth Days

How Long it Takes Jupiter to Rotate on its Own Axis- 10 Hours

Atmosphere

Jupiter’s atmosphere is a lot like the Sun’s and is made mostly of Hydrogen and Helium. It is very thick and one notable feature of the atmosphere is its Great Red Spot.

TemperatureJupiter Average Day Temperature- -121 degrees celsius

Jupiter Average Night Temperature- -163 degrees celsius

Jupiter Temperature Range-42 degrees celsius

Compared to temperatures on Earth and in Florida, It is very cold on Jupiter because of how much further away it is from the sun.

CompositionJupiter is a gas giant. If you could go to Jupiter, you would not be able to stand on the surface because it is not a solid. The surface consists of helium and ice. The interior consists of liquid hydrogen, liquid metallic hydrogen, iron and rock.

AppearanceJupiter looks like a huge brown and blue tie-dye ball. You can see jupiter, but you will never be able to stand on it because it is a gas giant. It has a huge storm on it called The Great Red Spot. Also, Jupiter has four moons that are the size of a planet!

WeatherWhenever there are storms on jupiter, they are very big. It is normal for storms to stretch thousands of km within hours. It is also typical for them to last for a very long time. Also, it is very cold on Jupiter because it is the 5th planet away from the sun.

RingsJupiter has three rings. They are all very faint. The rings were first discovered by Voyager 1. They are made up of dust particles. The innermost ring has a blueish hue, while the two outer rings have a reddish look.

MoonsJupiter’s moons were discovered by Galileo in 1610. There are 67 known moons that surround Jupiter. Jupiter’s four biggest moons are the sizes of planets! Some of the planets have ice on them.

Water on Jupiter

There is no water on Jupiter. Even though there is none “on” the planet, there is a small amount of water vapor in the clouds.

If You Could Go To Jupiter...

For starters, if you went to Jupiter, you would not be able to stand. It does not have a solid surface, just a liquid top layer. Also, you would not be able to breath because of the poisonous gases on Jupiter. You would also have a hard time moving because the gravity is so strong. Finally, the pressure and atmosphere would crush any human.

Fun Fact!Jupiter has a storm on that has been raging for at least 400 years. It is called The Great Red Spot. It was discovered by Giovanni Cassini in the late 1600’s.
