Hello Friends! We’re in the final quarter of 2016. Can you believe it? What a year! There are still a dozen or so seats open on the Mystery Trip. Call me today if you wish to go. (Just don’t ask where to.) You will all want to attend the Senior Circle Christmas Party without a doubt. Please, check out the calendar pages and RSVP today for October through December. I don’t want you to miss a thing!
Enjoy and share this advice from an anonymous 90- year-old:
1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good. 2. When in doubt, just take the next small step. 3. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does. 4. Pay off your credit cards every month. 5. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree. 6. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone. 7. Save for retirement, starting with your first paycheck.
8. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile. 9. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present. 10. It's OK to let your children see you cry. 11. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it. 12. Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying. 13. You can get through anything if you stay put in today. 14. It is never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else. 15. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer. 16. Burn the candles; use the nice sheets; wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special. 17. The most important "romance" organ is the brain. 18. No one is in charge of your happiness except you. 19. What other people think of you is none of your business. 20. Time heals almost everything. Give time time. 21. However good or bad a situation is it will change. 22. Believe in miracles. 23. Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable. 24. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful. 25. The best is yet to come.

Introducing MRMC Emergency Department Director: Gale Osgood, MD
As of August 1, 2016,
University Physicians
is now staffing the
Emergency
Department at
Moberly Regional
Medical Center.
Patients will continue
to see physicians they
have come to know
like Drs. Smith, Hart
and Allen but they are
now joined by
emergency trained doctors from University Hospital.
Dr. Gale Osgood is leading this group as the Medical
Director. We thought our SC readers would like to
learn more about Dr. Osgood and this new team in
Moberly.
How did you become a physician? I became a physician as a way to help people. I have
always been interested in science and love teaching but
at the time in my life that people traditionally go to
medical school, I had a stronger calling to teach school
so that was my path. Later, several things happened
and it changed my course. My grandfather passed
away from leukemia and my best friend was killed in a
drunk driver accident. A family member was studying
for nursing school and needed some tutoring and I
found applied medical science to be fascinating. I had
also won teacher of the year in my district and
honestly, it gave me a midlife crisis about what I
should be doing with my life. I was able to complete my premed course work and was fortunate to have this
great chance.
Why did you choose Emergency Medicine? As an older adult in medical school, I loved it all and
originally thought I'd do internal medicine. After some
exposure, I realized I loved emergency medicine and
was able to change residencies. I love the acuity and
the immediate gratification emergency medicine
allows, like helping a heart attack victim and getting
them to the cath lab, splinting broken bones and
helping with pain, etc. It is the best fit for me.
After residency, the department chair at Mizzou kept in
contact and invited me back to help start a residency. I
accepted.
What do MU Health Care physicians bring to
MRMC’s ER? The combined efforts between Moberly and University
Physicians will help continued improvement of
emergency care for the citizens of Moberly and the
surrounding area. It will help to bring best practices in
emergency medicine.
What should the community know about
MRMC’s ER? I'd love the community to know that we all are working continuously to improve care in MRMC’s ER. I am happy and excited to be here. Being from Missouri, I feel dedicated to see further improvement in emergency care here.
