P: You are not going out dressed like this. And what have you done to your hair? T: Dad, I have been at the hairdresser’s this afternoon and this is the latest fashion.

You told me yesterday that I should have my hair cut. P: Yes, we did but not the way it looks like now. Cut short on one side and chin length

on the other side. And when and where did you get those trousers? T. After you had explained to me the other day that you wouldn’t buy any new

clothes for me, I suggested swapping clothes with my friend. P: Ok, but your friend and you are not completely the same size. Do her parents know

about your idea? T: No, but they will find out sooner or later. Dad, please let me do some things my

way. I promise I will be home in time, but I am really in a hurry now because my friend is already waiting for me in front of the cinema.

P: We know that you have never come home late in the last months, but we are going to have a serious talk tomorrow. And don’t forget, call us if you need a lift home.

The teacher replied/answered/said (that) he/she was rather disappointed. I always found excuses for not having time to study. He/She asked me when I would work on better time management and why school didn’t have the priority it should have. If I didn’t catch up with the new modules soon, how did I expect to manage that year?

I said (that) I would do my best and that I had finally got my driving license. I asked the teacher to give me another chance and I would not disappoint him/her.

If you want to live a healthy life, leave your couch potato days behind you. All you have to do is follow a few simple steps that will significantly improve your health. It is very easy as you will see. Just get some exercise, not only once a month, but regularly. Well, I’ll give you some tips now, what I do. Always start and finish your workout with stretching. Gentle stretching will warm up your muscles before you work out and will relax your muscles after you work out. Go to them gym three to five times per week. Work out for half an hour to an hour, combining both cardio and strength training programs. Exercise in your neighbourhood, which means go for a jog or take your dog for walk. Make sure that you move at a moderate pace for at least 30 minutes. And finally I’ll recommend you to walk or bike to your

Skills show p. 38 | 1b) Main points that the author is criticising Most of the origin of the food in supermarkets is opaque. Supermarket chains have control over food. Overfishing of seas. Illegal workers harvest fruit and veg. Packaging of food is deceiving. It is hypocritical to hide cigarettes in shops but not sweets. Everybody should know how our food is made. Food system is built on cheap oil – so food is imported from far away.

Solutions offered: rationing of fish; end the majority of advertising for highly processed food; teach cooking at schools; reduce rise in meat consumption; ban GM food; limit power of supermarkets; common land should be given to people to grow their own food.

to carry all your purchases. Before spending too much time on looking for the products you want, ask at

customer information on which floor and aisle you will find them. Some assistants may even lead you to the shelf where the goods are displayed.

Some high quality products may be a bit pricey, so look out for bargains. Sometimes it is better not to buy on the spot because most of the stores have

seasonal sales twice or three times a year. When you are finished with shopping, go to the checkout to pay for your purchases. Always keep the receipt so you can exchange an article or get a refund if you are

not satisfied with the quality. Ask for a paper bag which can be recycled instead of a plastic bag.

Dear Anja You won’t believe what happened to me the other night. If I hadn’t listened to you, I would not have met this nice student. If I had stayed at home as I had planned, I really would have missed a chance. Just imagine, I was walking along High Street when suddenly somebody bumped into me. It was this good looking classmate from the 4c. I thought, “What will I do if he starts talking to me now?” And he did. He asked me, “Would you go out with me if I asked you?” I said yes. Now I need your advice. I forgot to give him my phone number. If you were me, would you try to get in touch with him through his friends? Will it be the right move if it is me who contacts him? Please write back asap. It is urgent . Love Ivana

Liz: I can’t stand going by bus because when it is hot, it sometimes smells and the buses are always crowded during the rush hours. I always look forward to getting off the bus after half an hour’s journey. And the other thing is, you can’t really rely on the bus arriving punctually. So, sometimes I am late for school and my teachers complain about my being late. Many people in our town have already given up using public transport, but consequently there are now more and more cars and so the dream of living in a car-free city centre has gone forever, I think. And how is it in your town?

Nick: I think, it is a lot better in our town because many people insisted on having a car-free town centre and the town government finally succeeded in turning many streets into pedestrian zones, which is very convenient. They have also concentrated on improving the public transport system and so we have air-conditioned buses and a well-developed underground system. I am really used to going by public transport and enjoy taking the underground.
