When the show starts, the lights will turn down low but don’t worry it
won’t go completely dark.
This is the time to sit quietly to listen and watch the actors perform the
story. If you need to talk to your friends or family during the show you
can whisper.
The show you are seeing is called ‘Just Romeo and Juliet!’.
This is a theatre show, not a movie. There will be real people on stage,
called actors. There are three actors in the play.
7
The actors’ real names are (L – R):
Eleni, Ryan, Caitlin
In Just Romeo and Juliet! Ryan plays a boy called Andy, Eleni plays a
girl called Lisa, and Caitlin plays a boy called Danny.
In the story, Andy, Danny and Lisa are in a school production of Romeo
and Juliet, the play by the famous writer called William Shakespeare,
who lived more than 400 years ago in England.
8
Andy, Danny and Lisa find out what happens in the story of Romeo and
Juliet. They will talk about why it is such a famous play and explain what
some of Shakespeare’s words mean.
Romeo and Juliet is a very famous love story about a young boy and girl
who fall in love, even though their families are enemies. The original
story is a tragedy meaning it has a sad ending, and some of the
characters die.
This production will follow the same story but in a light-hearted and fun
way, because Andy doesn’t know how the story ends. He plays a lot of
different characters along the way.
9
Sometimes the actors will make loud noises and sometimes they will run
around being funny. They will wear different hats and costumes and they
will use different toys and words to tell the story.
During the show you are free to leave the theatre and return if you need
to.
When the show finishes, the actors will bow. People will clap their
hands.
10
This is to thank the actors for the show. You can clap too if you want to,
or if it is too loud, you can put your hands over your ears.
When the performance is finished and it is time to go, you will leave
Riverside. You will leave through the sliding doors again.
It’s great fun to go to the theatre!
