A Report on
Women’s Day Celebration

WELCOME PROGRAM:
Women’s Day was celebrated in KJSCE on March 28, 2014. The program started with the
lighting of lamp by respected Principal madam Dr. Shubha Pandit along with vice principals
Prof. A.S.Thosar and Dr. N.R.Gilke , WDC-KJSCE Convener Mrs. Jyoti Varavadekar and
Ladies Representatives from Students’ Council Ms. Maitri Joshi and Ms. Moumita Mujumdar. As
per our Somaiya tradidition it was followed by reciting the prayer.
WDC Convener Mrs. Jyoti Varavadekar welcomed all and shared her experience that it is never
observed in KJSCE about any ill treatment or harassment of women. This is due to the culture
set by Somaiya Management in this aspect. This culture is also maintained by all KJSCE
members so that all the women working in this institute feel very comfortable and satisfied. She
expressed her heartfelt thanks and salute to Somaiya Management and all KJSCE members for
the same.
FELICITATION PROGRAMME:
K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering is an institution where not just engineers are produced but
achievers are bloomed every year. The felicitation of the gems of this college who have
achieved an extra ordinary honour in various fields was done by respected Principal Dr. Shubha
Pandit, Vice Principals Dr. N. S. Gilke and Prof. A.S. Thosar. The details about this programme
are as follows:
1. Miss. Hetvi Pasad, the mermaid of KJSCE for winning three silver medals in swimming at
National level.
2. Miss. Sayali Potdar has blown everyone’s mind with her excellent gymnastics. This girl has
got 3rd rank at the university level which KJSCE can boast about happily.
3. We all know that it is important to give back to the society we live in but so few of us do the
same. Miss. Aishwarya Poojary is volunteering for an organization called M.A.D.(Make a
Difference) that empowers children in orphanages.
4. Miss. Drishti Trivedi, also a social worker has formed a non-profit group along with her friends
called ‘Smile’. She helps in providing better environment to the slum kids and also to the elderly
people of our society.
5.KJSCE is a hub of achievers, but among them are a few gems who have overcome their daily
struggles to achieve something extraordinary. Sometimes, in our daily life our problems and our
struggles seem insurmountable but a few people who have not only faced greater difficulties but
have overcome them. They have shown the world that all you need is hard work and
determination to succeed in anything that your mind wants to.
Miss. Maitri Shah, Miss. Pooja Goswami and Miss. Pallavi Bhoite have overcome their physical
disabilities and yet taken up engineering.
6. A group of students from third year engineering (in 2013) started up their own franchise in the
SIMSR hostel named SNACKBAR which provided food to the hostelites in the night. They
decided to donate (Rs. 5000/-) the profit earned by them to WDC-KJSCE to utilize for noble
cause. So, this money was used to help the needy girl students from economically backward
families. The names of these girl students were finalized from applications shortlisted by PUSH
committee of the college. We got names of four girl students from the committee. A formal wear
dress material was given to these girls students which will be useful for them to wear for their
interviews during placements. The names are: 1. Miss Hetavi Kotak 2. Miss Priya Selarka 3.
Miss Priyanka Ghadge 4. Miss Trupti Dhoble
7. We have a person among us who has proven to the world that distances matter the least
when you happen to know that you are the only support to your family. This lady is an epitome
of patience, strength and will power. She travels everyday all the way from Nasik to work in our
college, wakes up at probably 4am when the entire world is fast asleep. An extraordinary person
and well deserving for the felicitation was Mrs. Jyoti Patre. This day was also her 50th birthday.
BOOK INAUGURATION CEREMONY:
We have got n number of engineering colleges across Mumbai but KJSCE has really got
something special. That speciality is our professors. The students are lucky to have got the best
professors in this college. Prof.Dr.Kanaklata Tiwari is an example. She has written an excellent
book named “Unsuljhe Prashna” (Hindi Novel). Her book inauguration ceremony was
conducted in the hands of Dr. Shubha Pandit.
PRINICPAL MADAM’s SPEECH:
On the occasion of Women’s Day Principal Madam Dr. Shubha Pandit guided all the women.
She highlighted the importance and role that family plays in the education and work space of a
female. Hence, we all should be thankful to our families for their immense support.
After Principal Madam’s speech, a cultural program was conducted. The theme of this program
was “Nari ke Anek Roop” which was based on the songs, films and deeds of famous women
personalities. The details of this program are as given in the following table:

VOTE OF THANKS:
The program was ended by vote of thanks by Mrs. Jyoti Varavadekar. The program was
successful because of the family like spirit to work together. A lot of efforts and support was
given by the ladies representatives Miss Maitri Joshi and Miss Moumita Mujumdar along with
other students’ council members. WDC-KJSCE is thankful to all these and participants for their
very enthusiastic participation to make the program great success!!
