K3 Book Writing Project

This is a book writing contest open to 2013 K3 students who attend New Concept Kindergarten School and Flower Hill Central Basic School. This is a story about their life in Flower Hill.

What is the Flower Hill K3 Writers Contest and who can enter? This is a book writing contest sponsored by Jamaica Ambassador Programs. To be eligible, contestants must be active student at New Concept Kindergarten or Flower Hill Central Basic School in grade K3. These students have the opportunity to write and illustrate their own stories about their life in Flower Hill. To enter the contest, the parent or guardian of the eligible child is required to submit the entry form to the Principal of their child’s  school  by  no  later  than Friday, December 20, 2013. Stories will be judged by a panel in the United States, there will be two grand prize winners selected one from New Concept Kindergarten School and one from Flower Hill Central Basic School. Each winner will win a grand prize of $100.00 US currency. . When does it start and how do I sign up? Parents should   submit   their   children’s   entry   form   through   the   school’s   principal   before   December 20, 2013 and the completed book should be received by email to [email protected] from the School Principal by May 12, 2014.

Eligibility & Entry Guidelines 1) Entrants must be enrolled students with active attendance in kindergarten grade 3 at New Concept Kindergarten

School or Flower Hill Central Basic School. 2) K3 Students can only submit one book; all subsequent entries will be disqualified. 3) Only single author stories qualify (no co-authored stories). The work must be the sole creation of the student

approved by the parent and edited by the Principal for grammar and spelling. 4) Failure to adhere to these Contest Rules may result in disqualification from the contest. 5) There is no purchase or fees required to enter this contest. 6) All submission must be submitted by email from the School Principals to Jamaica Ambassador Programs.

Book Requirements

1) Stories can be fact or fiction. Stories with inappropriate contents will be disqualified. 2) The book should have a minimum of 3 chapters. 3) Each chapter must have a minimum of 300 words and a maximum of 1000 words. •The  word  count  includes  “a,”  

“an,”  and  “the,”  but  not  the  words  on  non-story pages such as the title page or those that enhance the illustrations. 4) The contents of the book must be approved by the Parent; spelling and grammar must then be approved by the

Principal before submission by the Principal to Jamaica Ambassador Programs. 5) Text must be typed, double spaced, in 12 point font, must be a Microsoft Word document and submitted by email

through the principal of each school 6) Stories must have at least 5 original, clear and colorful illustrations. Original art can include drawings, collages,

and 3-D created by the author or photographs taken by the author. Art can be scanned and sent by regular mail. If illustrations are sent by mail, they must be received no later than June 15, 2014 and should clearly state the page number where they belong.

7) Each page should be numbered and each chapter should be numbered and named.

Judging Awards Notification

•Entries will be judged on (1) Originality (2) Creative expression (3) Storytelling (4) Integration of text and illustrations. Jamaica Ambassador Programs will empanel a jury of no fewer than 3 judges to judge the submissions. Jamaica Ambassador Programs will announce the two first place winner during the 4th Distribution of School Supplies July 23-25, 2014. Decisions of the judges are final and not subject to appeal or review. Very Important Dates

1. Entry period for the contest is November 18, 2013 – December 20, 2013 to the School Principals.

2. Submission of entry forms to Jamaica Ambassador Programs by School Principals begins December 20, 2013 – December 30, 2013.

3. Submission of completed book to the School Principal –May  12,  2014  with  parent’s  signed  approval  of  book.

4. Submission of completed book from the School Principal to Jamaica Ambassador Programs via email May 20, 2014.

5. Art submission by regular mail June 15, 2014 6. Announcement of 2 grand prize winners will be made

during the 4th Distribution of School Supplies July 23-25, 2014.

Rights Associated with Contest Submission of the Entry Form constitutes permission for Jamaica Ambassador Programs to use   the   participant’s name, likeness, biographical information, information and materials contained in the Entry Form, photographs, and any statements or remarks made about the Contest in advertising and promotion without compensation or permission, except where prohibited by law. All entries, and any copyrights therein, become the sole property of Jamaica Ambassador Programs. By entering, entrants agree to abide by the above stated rules, and warrant that their entry is their original work and does not infringe upon or violate rights of any third party, and grant to Jamaica Ambassador Programs the right to edit, publish, promote, and otherwise use their entry materials without permission, notice or compensation. If In the future, the opportunity presents itself for publishing, the author of the published story would benefit. By submitting an entry and Entry Form, each participant (and parent or guardian) assigns all right, title, and interest in and to the entry and Entry Form to Jamaica Ambassador Programs and warrants that the participant (and parent or guardian) have the authority to such right, title, and interest. In the event that any applicable law requires certain formalities to be fulfilled to effectuate such grant of rights, each participant (and parent or guardian) agrees to cooperate with Jamaica Ambassador Programs to achieve fulfillment of such formalities. By submitting an Entry Form, each participant (and parent or guardian) agree to be bound by these Contest Rules. Each participant (and parent or guardian) agrees to release and hold Jamaica Ambassador Programs, and its officers, directors, agents, representatives, or other affiliated companies harmless from any and all damages, losses, claims and liabilities arising out of participation in the Contest or resulting from acceptance or claiming of any prize hereunder. Jamaica Ambassador Programs reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate, suspend or otherwise cancel the Contest at any time. Jamaica Ambassador Programs is not responsible for any expenses incurred in connection with participation in the Contest.
