Water River Krishna flows along the
southern side of the district and draws a natural boundary with Raichur district.
Bhima is the other river on the western boundary separating it from Bijapur district.
Other streams in the district are Amaraja, Mullamari, Bennithora, Kagina and Bori.
Power Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company
Limited (GESCOM) is responsible for supply of electricity in Gulbarga.
Raichur Thermal Power Station with a capacity of 1470 MW is the main source of electricity for the district.
PKCL has proposed to establish thermal power project at Jewargi.
Average annual consumption is 3707.60 lakhs units.
National Thermal Power Plant is coming up and Land is acquired in Gulbarga taluka.
About 500 MW Power Generated by Cement Plants and Sugar Plants is being supplying to KPTCL.

Tourism Tomb of Firoz Shah Bahmani is a tomb of Bahmani Kings
built in 1422. This fine mausoleum is a Tughlaq style rectangular building with two domes.
Tomb of Giyath al-Din of the 6th Sultan of the Bahmani Dynasty is one of the finest royal tombs and is situated to the southern entrance of Gulbarga Fort and is much more imposing than the tombs of the other sultans.
The Jama Masjid, situated within the fort walls has stilted domes and narrow entrances typical of the Persian style of architecture.
The Shrine of Saint Sharana Basaveshwara is the shrine of an eminent Hindu religious teacher and philosopher
Malkhed – seat of Rashtrakuta Empire ruled most part of South India and Maharashtra. First Kannada Literature “Kaviraj Marga” was written during rule of Rashtrakuta. It is also famous for remains of Jayathirtha in Uttaradimatha and Jain Battaraka Muth.
Marathur – Birth place of Vigneshwara, prominent jurist of 12th Century in the court of Vikramadithya VI, the western Chalukya Empire. His treatise Mithakshara is legal treatises in Hindu Inheritance.
Ghanghapur – known for famous Dattathreya temple.
Buddha Vihar recently added tourist attraction.

Connectivity 1,251.81 Km of State Highway passes through
the district. Humnabad- Vijayapura- Hubballi SH 218 passes
through Kalburagi and Jewargi Towns in the District.
Connected by rail to Bengaluru-Chennai-Trivandrum-Hyderabad-Bhuvaneshwar-Mumbai-Ahmedabad-New Delhi, etc.
New broad gauge line is being developed to connect Kalaburagi to Bidar and Wadi to Gadag.
Domestic airport is being developed at Kalaburagi.

NIMZ for Karnataka at Gulbarga- One of the nodes identified under Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor which is now awaiting approval.
Agriculture & Food Processing:
• Due to soil and climate of this district good quality of tur is grown and around 500 dal mills are established in the district.
• Gulbarga is known as the tur bowl of the state contributing 40 % of the state’s production.
• Agriculture and Horticulture produces can be properly used for conversion into value added products., by adopting new technology to standardize the production.
• There is a great demand for milk and milk products. KMF (Gulbarga-Bidar district) is not in a position to meet the present milk demand. Milk is being supplied by the adjacent states of Andhra and Maharashtra.
• Immense scope for bio-fuel plantation and afforestation.
Potential IndustriesCement:
• Gulbarga district has abundant lime stone deposits as such Sedam, Chittapur taluks have been declared as “CEMENT ZONE” for development of Cement and Cement based sector.
• It has witnessed huge investment in this sector.
Textiles:
• District comprises of Textile Handloom cluster providing a conducive ecosystem for the investors.
• Textile park in the district providing immediate investment opportunity of INR 70 crores.
Other Sectors:
• Energy – Power Company of Karnataka Ltd (PCKL ) has proposed a 1320 MW Thermal power project in the district.
• IT- Information Technology park has been established by KEONICS, Bangalore which is Government of Karnataka enterprise, which facilitates required infrastructure for development of Information Technology sector in this region.
Investment Opportunities
• A minor airport has been proposed in the district.
• SITP Textile park has been sanctioned to Gulbarga to be established at Nandur Kesaratagi Industrial area at an estimated cost of Rs.43.00 crores. Around 5000 to 10000 direct / indirect employment in proposed Textile park would be generated.
• District boasts of a 106 acre Jewargi Agro Food park with specialized infrastructure facilities required for food processing and allied industry.
• Power Company of Karnataka Ltd (PCKL ) has proposed a 1320 MW Thermal power project in the district.
