School News

By Jimmy Fung (5D) and Teddy Ma (5D)

he final exam is coming and the

P.5 students are nervous since

their results will be shown to

the EDB (Education Bureau). The results

will affect what band of school the

students will get into. Can they get good results?

The students’ exam marks for Chinese, English and

Maths will be multiplied by nine, whilst their General Studies

marks will be multiplied by two. Lastly, their Music and V.A.

(Visual Arts) will be multiplied by two. Then, these marks will

be given to the EDB.

The students in Ho Yat Tung will be ranked with all

the students in Tuen Mun. The exam papers will be more

difficult this time. Also, the paper will be marked by

different teachers.

Kristy Chung (5D) said, “I am very nervous because

getting into secondary school depends on this.” Phoebe Yeung

(5A) thinks the hardest subject will be Chinese and that it

will be much harder than last time. The students have

studied very hard since the Easter holidays because the final

exam will be very important. Vincent Lau (5D) said, “I have

studied very hard, especially for Chinese, English and Maths

because they are the main subjects.”

The final exams will be in June. We hope the students

study hard and get good results.

P.6 Students Have Interviews By Glory Kuk (6D) and Alison Lei (6B)

n the last few months, the P.6 students have had interviews to find out which secondary school they

will be going to. Most of the students had their interviews in Leung Kau Kui College (LKKC). Now, there

is a nervous atmosphere amongst the P.6 students. Why? Because they are worrying about how their

interviews went.

In February and March, most of the P.6 students in Ho Yat Tung went to LKKC to have their interviews.

The students were asked questions such as, “Why do you want to study in our school?” and “Tell me about your

school.” Mavis Yeung (6C) said, “I answered all the questions and all the questions were okay.” Rachel Ng (6B)

said, “I felt scared about the interview. I was especially nervous before it.”

Last Saturday, our school had a talk with the P.6 students and their parents. It was about how to get

into a secondary school. Mavis Yeung (6C) said, “I chose some well-known Band One schools in Tuen Mun.

However, I am still afraid that I will go to a bad school.”

July will be a really nervous month. Why? Because all the P.6 students are going to know which secondary

school they are going to!

he school Easter holidays started on 29th

March and ended on 10th April. It was a great

holiday, as pupils didn’t need to study for

exams.

The Easter holidays started straight after the

exams, so pupils could play a lot. Some played with

their friends. Others went to amusement parks and

holiday cottages. Some went to shopping centres.

Although it was after the

exams, some students still

had to do revision. They

had to prepare for the

Chinese “re-test” as there

were some problems in the

original test paper.

Ho Yat Tung didn’t have any activities during

the holidays. Students had their own activities. The

original reason for celebrating Easter is because

people want to celebrate the day Jesus came back to

life after his death.

Lots of students did different activities.

Kristy Chung (5D) said, “I went to the shopping

centre. It was the best thing I did during the

holidays. I spent my holidays with my parents.”

Miranda Yeung (4B) said, “I went to the amusement

park. I enjoyed

playing with my

friends the most.”

Jimmy Fung (5D) also

said, “I went to

holiday cottages with

my classmates. That

was the best thing I

did.” Finally, Mavis

Yeung (6B) said, “I

went to the shopping centre and had a barbecue with

my friends.”

By Rain Au (5B), Vincent Lau (5D) and

rom 20th April to 3rd May, all students had

Eye Week in their classrooms at Ho Yat Tung

so they could see how blind people live. If

they donated $20, they could get a blindfold. If they

donated $100, they could get a certificate too.

The students donated money to the charity,

Orbis, which will use the money to cure blindness.

Students put on their blindfolds whilst eating and

some students who didn’t donate $20 had to close

their eyes to have their lunch.

Everyone was excited because it was difficult

to have lunch when you closed your eyes. Yankee Poon

(5C) said, “I didn’t like this activity because I couldn’t

see anything!” Rachel Ng (6B) said, “I didn’t like this

activity either! I thought closing my eyes to have

lunch was very uncomfortable because I couldn’t see

what I was eating.” But Jimmy Fung (5D) said, “I liked

it because it showed us how important our eyes are.”

Ho Yat Tung has had this activity for two years

already. Students hope that they can have Eye Week

next year as well because it’s very exciting and

meaningful.

students went to a campsite. They went to

Fanling to have their camp. They all looked

forward to this trip. What did they do in the

camp? Let us tell you!

A lot of teachers went with the students.

They were their class teachers. On the way to

Fanling, the students listened to music and were

really excited. After arriving, they went to the

History Road first. There were a lot of old houses

and temples there. They had to walk for a long

time and they finally got to the village.

In the village, there was an old temple and

they went in. They took a lot of photos and stayed

in the village for about two hours. Then, they went

who are naughty. He is usually solemn, but sometimes

he is funny.

Although he has only been at Ho Yat Tung for

Rummikub for a while and had team games in the hall at night. Two staff members introduced themselves to

the students in an amusing way. They were friendly and kind. The teachers and staff planned some fun games

for the students. At ten o’clock, they went back to their bedrooms to bathe, play and then go to sleep.

They got up at six o’clock the next day. After breakfast, they took a

school bus to a village. There were many old houses in the village. They took

photos with people who lived there. A teacher called Chris took the students

to walk around. They went into a temple to have a look. At twelve o’clock, the

students said goodbye to the beautiful village and went back to the campsite

to have lunch. After that, they were all full and stayed in Hall 503 for the

rest of the day.

On the third day, the students had two hours to play table tennis,

badminton and other games. After lunch, it was the end of the three days and

two nights. The students took a bus to go back to school. Then, they went back

home. They were sad because they missed the campsite very much.

P.4 Prefects Welcomed By Isabelle Choy (5B) and Kristy Chung (5D)

n March, new prefects from P.4 classes

joined the P.5 and P.6’s team. 18 good pupils

were chosen by Mr. Li—who is in charge of all

prefects—because of their good grades and attitude

at school.

All the prefects have cooperated with each

other happily. Although they are not too familiar with

all the school rules, they are on time and are

responsible. The leaders of each group have said

they’re good at telling the naughty students what

they should do at the right time. Some of the new

prefects said that the job is tiring. We would like to

encourage them to work hard, but we also want them

to think carefully about what their responsibilities

are.

Rain Au (5B) said,

“They’re doing a great job!”

All the students hope that

they will do a great job in

the future.

Students Have Fruit Party By Yankee Poon (5C) and Veronica To (5B)

rom 23rd to 25th April, at lunch recess, some

students from P.1 to P.6, parents and

teachers had a fruit party on Playground B.

They had slices of watermelon, orange and pear on

skewers. Teachers wanted to teach students about

having a healthy diet.

Only some of the students joined the party

because some did other activities. For this activity,

the parents also worked very hard. They spent three

hours to prepare for the party but they all enjoyed

it. They ate the fruit too. There were about 10

parents who helped prepare for the fruit party. The

students were thankful for their help.

Selby Ho (5A) said, “The party was just okay

because the fruit was not fresh enough.” Phyllis

Cheng (5A) said,

“Yes, I enjoyed the

party because I

could play with my

friends.”

Dragon Trainer Stories: Hazel and Water By Veronica To (5B)

When Hazel first got her dragon, she noticed that her dragon was special. It was red and blue and

made of water and fire. Hazel went to the library and checked her dragon’s species. It was a Water Fire

Dragon. There were only a few left in the world. She felt lucky and was interested in this kind of dragon. She

read more information about this dragon:

“A Water Fire Dragon can live in the ocean or in a volcano. The water part of them is furry whilst the

fire part of them is full of scales. Their parents are Fire Dragons and Water Dragons. Their wings are as big

as an A4 piece of paper. One of their wings is like a flame and the other is the shape of a wave. They are good

at swimming and finding food. Their weakness is flying, so they don’t like to have flying competitions with their

friends, the Swamp Dragons. They like playing with a ball with their master. They like drinking and making tea

too because they can use their bodies to make it.”

Hazel knew about Water Fire Dragons now!

One day, she received a letter:

Dear Hazel,

How are you? I want to recommend that you join the ‘Dragon—Human Friendly Competition’.

Each dragon trainer and can join with one dragon. The dragon needs to listen to his/her trainer to

finish all the missions. I know you love your dragon. Here is some information about the competition:

Date: 17thJune, 2013

Time: 2:00—3:00 p.m.

Venue: Dragon Skateboarding Ground

You can download the form from: http://www.dragonhumanfriendly.com.hk

Hope you join the competition!

Yours,

Jay

After Hazel read this letter, she thought that she should start training Water (who was her dragon).

They did many kinds of training like flying through fire and speed training.

17th June soon arrived. Water and Hazel won all the matches easily. The last match began and Hazel’s

opponent was Jay! Jay and her dragon, Fire, were surprised too!

Their test was to make the dragon beautiful, but they only had five minutes.

Five minutes passed. Everyone was shocked because Water didn’t put on any beautiful clothes. However,

Jay dressed Fire up in a lot of beautiful clothes. She put on make-up too. Then, Hazel told the judges that she

thought Water was the most beautiful in her heart and she didn’t need any make-up. Finally, Hazel won the

competition.

Everyone was in awe of Hazel and they made her the leader of the Dragon—Human Friendly Club.

The Three Little Fishballs By Isabelle Choy (5B)

Once upon a time, there were three little fishballs. One day, they thought, “We have to find our own

home.” But there were some people who wanted to eat them. So first, one of the fishballs, Ray, rolled into a

paper bag. The people saw the brown paper bag. Quickly, they ran towards Ray. They broke the paper bag.

Ray was frightened, so he rolled away.

Next, Ray rolled to his brother Mark’s home. It was a plastic bag. Ray told Mark, his brother, what

was happening. Mark was surprised. They hid in a corner of the plastic bag. The people came. They found the

fishballs hiding, so they cut the plastic bag. Ray and Mark rolled away again.

Then, they rolled into a plastic box. Oh! Their brother, Sam, was in there. This was Sam’s home. They

told Sam what was happening. Sam replied, “Now, we are all safe!” But the people came. They opened the box

and ate them.

Later, the people that ate the fishballs all became sick. Why? Because the fishballs were dirty!

Little Sausage Riding Hood By Phyllis Cheng (5A)

Once upon a time, many sausages lived in Sausageland and there was a sausage called Yummy. One

day, her mother said, “Yummy, I am busy so can you help me and visit your grandma? Here is a fruit basket.

You take it to her.”

Yummy said, “Okay! I’m not busy.” Then, she opened the door and went outside. She walked and

walked.

A giant boy saw her and thought, “I think she would be delicious. I will try and eat her.” So, he

followed her and Yummy didn’t know.

Yummy began to sing, “Grandma, grandma, I love you…” so the giant boy knew that she was going to

her grandma’s house. He tried to get there first.

The giant boy went to the grandma’s house and thought, “If I want to eat her, how can I do it? Oh, I

have a smart idea!” Next, the giant boy tried to be a house. His mouth was the door and his eyes were the

windows. Since Yummy seldom went to her grandma’s house, she looked at the map. She saw and knew she was

at her grandma’s house. So, she knocked on the door (mouth). The door suddenly opened. Yummy smelled and

looked inside. It was dark.

Yummy said, “Wow! What a smelly house!” But she went inside. She looked around. “Oh! Where is the

light? Wow, it’s so hot! Wow…”

In the end, the boy closed his smelly mouth and enjoyed eating the delicious Yummy. Yummy lived

with the other food in Giant Boy Bodyland happily ever after.

The Three Little Pigs By Kenny Lim (6C)

Once upon a time, there were three pigs

and their mother. They lived happily together. One

day, the pig’s mother told the pigs that they

needed to go out and have their own shops. All of

the pigs were excited and went away.

The elder brother used a week to make his

shop. He built a toy shop with grass. The second

pig took two weeks to build a supermarket. He built

it with wood. The smallest pig took a month to

build a gun shop.

The next day, a hungry wolf went to the

elder pig’s shop. The elder brother threw some

toys at the wolf but the wolf did not feel pain. He

blew down the toy shop. Then, the wolf went to the

second pig’s supermarket. The second pig was

sleeping when the wolf came to his shop. The wolf

blew down the supermarket easily.

The two pigs

ran and ran to the

smallest pig’s gun shop.

The pigs told the

smallest pig what had

happened that morning.

The smallest pig was

very angry.

The wolf came

to the gun shop later. All the pigs went into the

shop and took out a lot of bombs. They threw the

bombs at the wolf and the wolf threw them back.

They fought for a long time.

Finally, all the pigs

and the wolf were hurt and

gave up. No one lived happily

ever after.

This story tells us

that we should be careful all

the time.

The Three Little Ants By Teddy Ma (5D)

Once upon a time, there were three little

ants. Their mum asked them to cook some food.

They cooked in their home, the football field. The

biggest ant cooked crispy grass. The middle ant

cooked curried carrots. The smallest ant cooked

curried bees.

The ants all finished cooking their food.

Suddenly, an overweight, bad and hungry frog

wanted to eat the food. It wanted to eat the ants

but the ants ran away and were too fast for the

frog! The frog ate the crispy grass. It tasted

great, so it ate it all. The frog went to the middle

ant’s food. The frog ate the curried carrots. It

was fantastic! It was yummy! The frog ate it all!

The frog went to the smallest ant’s food. The

smallest ant had cooked curried bees. It looked

yummy! It was colourful! The frog ate all of them.

The ants looked at the frog! It was quiet for a

while. Suddenly, the frog blew up! It blew up

because of the curried bees!

After that, they were very happy and

they were safe because no one wanted to blow up

because of the smallest ant’s disgusting food!

After, the two older ants taught the smallest ant

to cook. The smallest ant became a famous cook

after that! They became the richest ant family

and they lived happily ever after!

Linderella By Alison Lei (6B)

Once upon a time, there was a lady called

Linderella. She was very naughty. She played all

the time. She had a stepmother and two

stepsisters. They were extremely evil and they

always ordered Linderella to do all the housework.

However, Linderella was not obedient like a dog

and she would not do the housework. Therefore,

her stepmother and stepsisters needed to do the

housework.

One day, there was a party at the palace.

Linderella’s stepmother and stepsisters went to

the palace wearing formal clothes. Linderella

wanted to go to the palace as there was a lot of

delicious food and her stepmother hadn’t cooked

enough food for her.

Then, she made a wish. Suddenly, a fairy

appeared and used some magic to give Linderella a

pair of glass slippers and a gown and said, “You

need to leave the palace at twelve o’clock.

Otherwise, your gown and glass slippers will

disappear.” Then, Linderella rushed to the palace

to eat the food. Finally, she ate until she was full,

left before twelve o’clock and went back home

happily.

The Three Little Ice Creams By Selby Ho (5A)

Once upon a time, there was an ice cream

mother. She had three sons. She loved her sons

very much, but they were very poor. So, she let

the sons leave the fridge and live alone. She said,

“Sons, it is time for you to build your own houses

and live alone forever.” She said goodbye to her

sons and started crying.

Then, the three little ice creams left the

fridge, which was near the city. The oldest ice

cream built a house. It was made of marshmallows.

It looked tasty. A girl who came from the city saw

the house. She loved marshmallows, so she ate the

house. When the oldest ice cream saw her, he ran

and ran as fast as possible.

He ran to the second brother’s house. His

house was made of potato chips. The girl followed

the oldest ice cream. She went to the house that

was made of potato chips. She also liked potato

chips very much, so she ate the house too. The two

little ice creams had seen her and had run away as

fast as they could.

They ran to the youngest ice cream’s

house. It was made of candy, just like the game—

Candy Crush. The girl ran after the two bigger ice

creams. She saw the house that was made of

candy. She thought, “Maybe I can have a big meal

today.” So, she ran and ate the house. Finally, she

went back to her own house.

The three little ice creams’ houses were

eaten by the girl. It was three o’clock in the

afternoon. It was hot and sunny. There was no

more time for them to build new houses, so they

just had to live under a tree but it was too hot.

Finally, they melted because all of their houses

were eaten by the girl.

The Three Little Dogs By Rachel Ng (6B)

Once upon a time, there were three little dogs. They wanted to build a new house because a dinosaur

wanted to eat them. One day, the eldest brother found some grass to build a new house but, the dinosaur blew

it down. Then, they built a wooden house. It was easy to break and the dinosaur broke it.

The dogs thought for a long time. They didn’t know what to do. After that, they thought of a good idea.

The youngest brother went to a shop and bought a bomb. The bomb shop was

owned by three little pigs. The pigs said, “Why do you need to buy a bomb?”

“Because I want to scare a dinosaur!” the youngest brother said.

The pigs thought that it was a really good idea.

When the dinosaur came, the dogs showed him the bomb. It was scared

and ran away. They were really happy because the dinosaur wouldn’t want to

eat them anymore. The dogs lived happily forever.

Goldenella By Phoebe Yeung (5A)

Once upon a time, there was a rich but ugly lady named Goldenella. She had grey hair, thick eyebrows,

piggy eyes, a big fat nose and decaying teeth. She was so skinny that her clothes just hung on her body. She

was just skin and bones. Her mansion was huge. There were velvet curtains, crystal tables, silver and gold

chairs, a marble floor and a diamond ceiling lights. She had lots of jewellery, cosmetics and high-quality name

brand clothes.

One day, Goldenella received an invitation from the palace. There would be an engagement ball for the

prince at the Louvre Palace. The prince would choose the most beautiful, kind and intelligent maiden in the ball.

Ugly maidens were advised not to attend the ball.

Goldenella wanted to go as her stepmother and stepsisters were going to the ball. But, they didn’t allow

Goldenella to go. They fetched a carriage to go to the palace. Goldenella thought they were just joking and that

they prepared for her to come in the carriage as well, so she went to get ready for the ball. She found a

brilliant royal red gown made of silk, velvet and satin. It was decorated with lace, a ribbon, pearls and diamonds.

She took all her things and when she looked at the mirror in front of her make-up table, ready for a makeover,

she realised she was so ugly. Then, she heard the sound of hooves and wheels. Her stepmother and stepsisters

had left her alone in the mansion! She raced to the pavement and found the carriage was gone! She sat on a

bench and cried.

Suddenly, her fairy godmother appeared. “Oh, my child, what happened? Oh, you can’t

attend the ball, right? I’ll help you,” she said. She used her wand to turn Goldenella into a

pretty maiden. Then, she changed Goldenella’s body size. Finally, she made a carriage that

could fly. “Now hop in and set off. Bye! Have a good time!” Then, the fairy godmother flicked

her wand and Goldenella got to the palace.

At the ball, Goldenella had a great time. She danced with the prince and nibbled on

delicious delicacies. She enjoyed the ball. The prince asked her to marry him. She was

Once upon a time, there were three little

yummy sausages. They were three hot dogs. One day,

the mother sausage asked them to build their own

houses.

The three sausages used different kinds of

ingredients. The first sausage used yummy bread and

peanut butter. It was very comfortable (and delicious).

A bear who lived in a town wanted to eat him. The first

sausage was very afraid. So, he…

He ran to the second sausage’s house. It was

made of delicious bread and jam. It was more

comfortable than the first sausage’s house (and more

delicious!) The bad bear wanted to eat both of them

together. Both of the little sausages were very

frightened. So, they…

The two sausages ran to the third sausage’s

house. It was made of stale bread and soy sauce. It was

One day, Sandy and her family went to

visit their aunt together. Their aunt was a witch.

She loved Sandy’s brother, John, very much. So,

on that day, she gave a book to John. It was a

magic book called, A Magic Plant. His aunt told

him to not let anyone touch the book or he would

die because he was the master of the book now.

Sandy saw her aunt give the book to her brother,

but she couldn’t hear anything. When she saw

this, she was angry. She wanted to look at the

book. Her brother warned her about the book but

Sandy soon forgot his warning.

That night in John’s bedroom, Sandy took

away the magic book. It was a giant book. It was

very heavy. She took the book and went to her

bedroom. She opened the book but she was too

tired to read. So, she slept.

After a few weeks, the fairy godmother’s

magic faded. The prince was startled. He found that

she was so ugly and dumb. She wasn’t kind to the

servants, either. So, he divorced her without asking

Goldenella or telling her. Goldenella didn’t know it

until she found the prince with another rich, young

and beautiful maiden.

Goldenella was very sad. She wanted to end

her life. She flung herself down the palace

staircase towards her favourite garden. To her

surprise, it was changed from a marble staircase to

a staircase made of elastic rubber! The prince did

this to get rid of his old wife. He wanted to bounce

her far away using this staircase. Goldenella

to eat all three of them, and he was sick, so he couldn’t

enough fresh air. They wanted to die. When the bear

Finally, the three little yummy sausages wanted

to live near each other. They built new houses. They

were neighbours and brothers now! No one saw the bad

bear ever again and they all lived happily ever after.

library. Finally, she found it on a quiet street. It was

called, “Mr. Linden’s Library”.

Chapter Two—The Library

She walked into the library. It was quiet. Many

people were reading magic books. She took a book

called Magic Spells. She sat down and started to read

the book. After a few minutes, a librarian passed by

and saw the book. The librarian asked Wendy,

“Excuse me, Miss. Will you be borrowing this book?”

Wendy looked at the librarian. She was

puzzled. She asked, “Why?”

The librarian said, “I want to warn you to not

sleep when the book is open.”

Wendy was more puzzled. She nodded her

head and said, “Okay” but she didn’t know why. At

last, she borrowed the book.

Chapter Three—Escape

When she went back to her hotel room, she

was still reading the book but it was already late. She

forgot what the librarian had said, so she fell asleep

but the book was still open. She slept for a long time.

When she woke up, it was already morning. She

found that some plants were growing from the book

and they were winding around her! She quickly used a

pair of scissors to cut off the plants and ran away.

She also brought the book with her.

When she was running, she found that the

book was glowing and the plants were chasing her.

She knew that if the book was glowing, it might

explode. She took a taxi and rushed to the library.

There, she found a spell which could stop the plants.

She said, “Abracadabra!” The book stopped glowing

and the plants stopped chasing her. She sighed and

thought, “Magic is too dangerous. I don’t want to find

out anything about magic now!”

Suddenly, leaves grew out of the book.

Sandy started to look sick. Her nose became as

big as a pig’s. Suddenly, the book closed itself but

Sandy didn’t know.

The next morning, Sandy found that the

book had closed itself and then she remembered

her brother telling her that the book would kill

her if she took it away from him. But, Sandy

thought, “It’s okay. Nothing will happen.” She

opened the book again. She felt something coming

out of the book, but she couldn’t see anything

because she found out that suddenly, she couldn’t

open her eyes. She knew that she had to close

the book but she couldn’t move. She felt

something hard, painful and uncomfortable on her

body but she could do nothing.

At last, her brother found out that his

book had disappeared. Soon, he realised that his

sister had taken it. When he arrived at her

bedroom, he saw a lot of grass in the room but he

couldn’t find his sister. He knew his sister had

died because of his magic book. He said to

himself, “Oh my god!”

Miss Wendy Walker was born into a

magical family. Her father was magician but he

did not teach magic to Wendy. After he died,

Wendy wanted to know more about magic, so she

asked many people but they said, “There is no

magic in this world!” She was disappointed.

After many years, someone told her that

there was a library, which had some books about

magic. She wanted to find the library. She took a

Mr. Linden’s Library By Mavis Yeung (6B)

In a small house, a girl slept quietly on her bed. She smiled and no one knew the story about what had

happened to her 10 years before…

Carrie, a girl who was just nine years old, walked into a library called “Mr. Linden’s Library”. She shouted

loudly, “Uncle Linden, I’m here to visit you!” However, no one answered her. “No one’s here?” She walked around to

look for some interesting stories. Carrie came to the room in the back. There were some words on the door: “Mr.

Linden’s Workshop: DANGER”. Carrie opened the door slowly.

It was dark. Carrie shuffled in and turned on the lights. She saw a book on the desk. A sticker stuck on

the book said: “Not Ready”. “It must be an interesting book!” Carrie thought and looked at the first page. There

was only a picture of a young girl sleeping on a bed. It was scary but exciting! “Okay! I will take it back home.” She

walked out of the scary room with the book.

The next day, Carrie woke up and quickly had her breakfast. “Carrie, go and visit Uncle Linden again!”

Carrie’s mum, Mandy, shouted at Carrie loudly.

“No, Mum, I am going to read the book I got yesterday.” Just then, Carrie rushed to her bedroom and

started reading Dreaming.

It was a story about a girl called Cassie who dreamed all day in bed. The narrator described the dreams

that she had. Some were scary but some were funny. Carrie really loved this book. “It’s the greatest story that

I’ve ever read!” She liked how Cassie had a similar name to her!

When she was going to turn the page, she saw big words that said: “Danger! Don’t turn to the next page!”

She thought it was just a joke. She turned to the next page curiously, but…she saw nothing!

It was a blank page! “Oh, where is the next dream?” Suddenly, some scary things came out from the

middle of the book. It was a plant! It grew very fast and got bigger and bigger, even bigger than Carrie’s head!

Carrie was shocked and started crying, “Help! Mum, where are you?” She was frightened and she couldn’t stop

crying. Her tears dropped on the plant’s leaves.

“No!” Carrie screamed as loud as a lion roaring. She tried to get out of her bedroom but the plant grabbed

her left leg. She couldn’t move. She could just cry. “Oh, it’s painful! Please don’t grab my hand!” Carrie screamed

with crying eyes. She struggled. All of a sudden, Carrie felt tired and wanted to sleep. “Help…” she whispered

slowly and fainted on the floor, just like Cassie had in one of her dreams in the book.

After that, Mandy, who had gone out, came back home. “Carrie, come downstairs and have your dinner,”

she called. Carrie did not come down. Mandy walked angrily to her bedroom and quickly opened the door. She saw

Carrie on the floor with a plant around her. Mandy started crying and called Mr. Linden.

Mr. Linden arrived at their home. He rushed to Carrie’s bedroom. “Oh dear! Carrie opened my unfinished

invention!” said Mr. Linden. He kept trying to close the book but failed. Finally, he took a lighter out and used fire

to burn the plant. It turned to grey ash. Mr. Linden had destroyed it.

“Carrie, you can wake up now!” Mandy said softly. Carrie still slept quietly on the floor.

“Mandy, the plant absorbed all of Carrie’s energy. She won’t wake up anymore,” explained Mr. Linden with

a sad face. “I’m sorry, Carrie,” his tears dropped on Carrie’s face.

Ten years later, Carrie still slept on her bed. She slept with a smile. However, she wouldn’t ever wake up…

“Maybe she’s having a happy dream just like some stories in Dreaming,” said Mr. Linden.

“Hopefully she is,” Mandy said, “I hope she lives in that dream happily ever after.”

Mr. Linden’s Library By Zero Fung (6B)

On 13th February 2001, there was a girl called Mary. There was a book beside her. Mary was eighteen

years old. She had a pair of beautiful, sea blue coloured eyes. Her skin was pale. She loved reading books and

she often went to the library in town.

One day, when Mary was in the library, a horror book caught her eye. Mary loved horror stories, so she

decided to borrow the book, which was called Stephanie. But, Mary’s ex-boyfriend, Wallace, who was the

librarian, warned her. “Don’t borrow this book! You will regret it!” Mary ignored him. She thought that he was

lying to her. She finally borrowed the book. Scary things started to happen from that moment on.

Once Mary was back home, she rushed to her bedroom and started to read the book. She locked the

door so that her family wouldn’t disturb her. She lay on her bed. The story was very scary. Nevertheless, Mary

continued reading. Mary turned off the lights so that her room would seem more mysterious, like the story.

She was so attracted to the book that she didn’t eat, sleep or do anything else except read the book.

Time flew. It was the morning and Mary had finally finished the book. She was exhausted. When Mary

was going to close the book, she felt that something was different, but she couldn’t tell what it was. She

looked at every page of the book. When she was in the middle of the book, she found what was different.

Something was growing in the book. It was a plant. Mary realised that what she was experiencing was the same

as the main character in the book. The plant was growing so fast. Mary’s horror grew as fast as the plant. She

wanted to get out of her bedroom, but she was so scared that she couldn’t move. There were a lot of spikes on

the plant. The plant started to move closer to Mary. She was shocked but still couldn’t move. The plant stung

Mary. Oh! The plant was poisonous. Mary fainted and she was going to die. The last thing that Mary could see

was Wallace rushing into her bedroom.

Wallace had predicted what would happen to Mary, but he didn’t expect it to happen so quickly. When

he arrived at her home, Mary’s parents told him that Mary had locked herself in the bedroom all night long. So,

Wallace had run to Mary’s bedroom and broken down the door, but it was too late. Mary had been stung.

Wallace called the police and asked for an ambulance immediately. Wallace cried because he was still in love

with Mary. His heart was broken. The police came within thirty minutes. They sent Mary to the hospital.

Unfortunately, Mary was dead. Her family cried a lot.

A week later, her parents held a funeral for Mary. The next day, the book was returned to the library.

It had changed its name. It was borrowed by a girl called Janice. The book was now called Mary.

Mr. Linden’s Library By Glory Kuk (6D)

Wendy finally understood why Mr. Linden hadn’t allowed her to read the book…

Mr. Linden was the owner of the library near Wendy Shore’s home. Every day after school, Wendy

would go to Mr. Linden’s library and borrow books. Mr. Linden and Wendy were good friends.

It was an ordinary day. Wendy arrived at the library. “Nice day, Wendy! I just got some new books.

Want to see?” asked Mr. Linden.

“Sure!” said Wendy.

Wendy saw a book called Never Awake and there was no author’s name! Wendy felt strange and tried

to open it. Before she could, Mr. Linden grabbed the book and said, “Never ever open this book.”

That day, Wendy didn’t borrow any books and she just went back home. When she got back home,

Wendy’s dad, John, was back from work. He seemed happy. He shouted, “Wendy, Mr. Linden is having a party

at his library tonight!”

A lot of people had gathered at Mr. Linden’s library. It was very big. Wendy went and found the book.

Wendy went inside Mr. Linden’s office and she opened the book. On the first page, there was a girl,

but she could only see her back. Suddenly, the girl turned and used her evil red eyes to look at Wendy!

Wendy screamed her loudest scream and she fell inside the book! She felt herself falling into a hole…

Meanwhile, in the real world, Mr. Linden and Christina, Wendy’s mum, heard Wendy’s scream and

hurried to Mr. Linden’s office. What they saw freaked them out. Wendy was lying on the floor, sleeping and

beside her was…the book! Plants were growing out of the book. Mr. Linden tried to wake Wendy up but the

plants pushed Mr. Linden away.

Wendy suddenly hit the ground. “Ow! My butt hurts!” said Wendy. Wendy looked around and found

herself on a table full of tea, cakes and cookies. “Looks like someone is about to have tea,” thought Wendy.

Then, a smiling cat appeared in front of her. Wendy thought, “Hey, am I in the book Alice in

Wonderland?”

The smiling cat said, “Alice, quick, you must meet the Mad Hatter!”

“What?!” Wendy was totally shocked and ran away

Suddenly, a girl appeared in front of Wendy. The girl said, “Hi, my name is Soroca. How about you?”

“My name’s Wendy,” answered Wendy.

Soroca told Wendy that she wanted to go home but she could only do that if she found the White

Queen. Wendy also wanted to go home, so she decided to find the White Queen with Soroca.

“But where is the White Queen?” said Wendy.

“Don’t worry, let’s sing this song!” answered Soroca. So, they sang a song called “Crosatt”. It was

about a girl that never gave up.

Soroca and Wendy kept walking. They saw a castle; it was the White Queen’s castle! Just then,

Wendy fell down. Something had tripped her. It was a small knife with the words, “To Wendy” on it. Wendy

did not know why her name was on the knife, but she just picked it up and put it in her bag.

When Soroca went inside the castle she was totally shocked. The Red Queen came down and saw

Soroca and Wendy. “Who are you two?” asked the Red Queen.

Wendy answered, “We’re here to see you, your highness. We want to kill the White Queen.”

“But, I need to kill the White Queen myself,” said the Red Queen.

The Red Queen brought the White Queen down. The White Queen knelt down in front of Wendy and

Soroca. The Red Queen turned her back. Quick as a flash, Wendy got her knife out and threw it. The Red

Queen stopped and fell down. They untied the White Queen and all the guards cheered for them. Wendy and

Soroca told the White Queen why they were there. The White Queen agreed to send them back home.

The White Queen cast a spell and “Pop!” Wendy was back in Mr. Linden’s bedroom.

The plants growing out of the book grew smaller and smaller, until they were back in the book.

Wendy cried out, “I’m back!” All three of the adults were shocked. They hugged and kissed Wendy.

Before anyone could say anything, Wendy hopped back home, singing the song Soroca had taught her.
