2020 Parents and Citizens AGM Our P&C will be hosting its AGM on Monday 16 March in the NPS staffroom at 5pm. We welcome anyone interested in being involved and would love to see some new parents joining our 2020 team. Our P&C is a committee who collaborate to promote the interests of the school and is a great way to be informed and involved in all aspects of school life. The committee meet once a term and assist in organising events such as the Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls, the bi-annual fete, catering for
the musical, socials and much more. Any level of involvement is welcome with our P&C so come along and meet the team and find out what it is about. Together we are looking forward to another great year of collaboration and celebration. Highlights this fortnight for our students Above and beyond all the wonderful learning activities that are happening in our classrooms I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our swimmers who represented our school at NARRAF Gobondary district carnival. They displayed fine team spirit and produced outstanding results including many personal bests. To the students who qualified to represent NARRAF Gobondary at the Western Region qualification carnival, for NSW State in Homebush, our whole school wishes you the very best of luck, we are all cheering you on. Healthy Harrold has come and gone leaving his messages of good health and lifestyle choices. We are grateful to Mrs Wrench who coordinates the Life Education van visits and to the students who always engage so willingly and confidently with the pre and post activities in PDHPE and within the van itself. Great job team NPS.

Every Day Counts Attendance Attendance at school every day is not only a focus at Narromine it is a NSW Department of Education and Training expectation and legislated requirement. It is absolutely critical to the ongoing learning success for all children. Every day a child misses, puts them at a slight disadvantage as learning in our classrooms is a continuous process. Often work missed is a prerequisite to work that follows, so children are unable to complete the new work until the work they have missed is caught up. This can cause them considerable distress. Our attendance target for 2020 remains at 95%. This means that children need to be in attendance for 190 days (or more) out of the 200 school days to meet our attendance target. More than 2.5 days of absence per term will see them fall below the target. Please help us to ensure the best possible learning outcomes for your child by ensuring attendance at school every possible day. Student Absenteeism If your child is away due to illness or any other reason, please phone the school on 6889 4566 or report the absence on the school app. If no notification is received at the office this will show on your child’s report card as an unexplained or unauthorised absence. Changes to Daily Routine If there is a change to your daily or planned routine and you need to notify your child please contact the school office by 2.15pm so we can ensure the message is sent to classes before 2 .55pm. These changes include things such as changes to transport home, parent/guardian running late or a change to the person picking up your child. Parent Teacher interviews are TODAY The teachers and staff are looking forward to meeting and reconnecting with our families at this initial parent teacher meeting. Today is a perfect opportunity for parents to share their little people’s interests and special talents, while teachers are looking forward to sharing the learning journey and working together to create Personalised Learning Plans for the students.

School breakfast
The students at Narromine Public School have enjoyed participating in the School Breakfast 4 Health Program so far this Term. One day per week, Foodbank provides all students from Year 1 to Year 6 with a nutritious breakfast. Students are still encouraged to have breakfast at home and partake in a small meal at school, with the main focus being on developing the students’ talking and listening skills. Each week students have been encouraged to talk about a topic with their peers. Each topic provides opportunities to develop a variety of skills. During these conversations, the teachers and support staff actively encourage appropriate skills such as use of eye contact, use of tone when telling an interesting story and inflection when asking a question. The program also offers opportunities for students to develop a rich and broad vocabulary which can support writing and reading development. The topics which the students will be encouraged to talk about during the School Breakfast 4 Health Program are listed below. You may like to talk about these topics at home whilst sharing a meal together.
Week Topic 3 My favourite meal 4 My family 5 My favourite book or movie 6 If I was a superhero, what would my
super power be and what would I do with it to help others?
7 When I grow up… 8 My favourite animal 9 My hobbies or what I love to do in my
free time 10 Something that I have done well this
term or I am grateful for 11 In the holidays I am…

Mathematics Matters with 1B Patterns, patterns and more patterns Students in 1B have enjoyed using a variety of materials to create and explain patterns in the classroom. Students used coloured items to create sequential patterns using play dough, counters, cubes and matchsticks. During this activity, they were able to identify the next colour or shape in the pattern.

Family Literacy Challenge Welcome to 2020 and our Family Literacy Challenges that you have all been waiting for all holidays. You will need to get a family team together to complete the challenges. There will be a box in the front office to submit your entries. To collect the prize you need to make sure you have one name of a family member per entry. For example: The Jones Family- Andrew Jones 4W. To be in the running for a $10 canteen voucher make sure you get your entry in the blue box in the foyer at the office. You have to be in it to win it! Week 6- Adjectives. Adjectives are words that tell us more about a noun eg: The big brown dog. Big and brown are both adjectives. Week 6 Challenge Write as many adjectives as you can to describe the image in this picture.
Senior Citizens performance
The choir students thoroughly enjoyed being part of the entertainment for a morning tea held by the Narromine Shire to celebrate Senior Citizens this week. The students performed two songs, 'Just Can't Wait to Be King' and 'I Can Tell That We Are Going to be Friends.' As well as some beautiful singing the students took on some characters making for a very fun performance. The choir will be continuing to practise for more upcoming performances including Grand Friends Day, at the end of this term. Amanda Turnbull - Choir Teacher
PBL News At Narromine Public School students have been learning how to demonstrate respect through listening carefully and being an active listener in conversations. Students are being encouraged to build skills around being good listeners by applying their 6L’s (legs are crossed, hands are in laps, lips are closed, eyes are looking, students are listening and are ready to learn). Teachers have been on the lookout for students demonstrating great listening skills and have awarded many SuperVals for
outstanding listening. Students have also been learning how to show responsibility by moving safely. Moving safely means students move to lines straight away when the bell rings, they move up and down stairs using the left hand on the left railing, moving calmly into assemblies, walking sensibly and moving quietly. Well done to all the students who have received SuperVals for showing responsibility by moving safely. Congratulations to all the students who have been doing an exceptional job demonstrating RHR at all times and have received all their points so far in the term. These students will be participating in their 100 point reward initiatives in Week 6 and 7. We want to acknowledge all the students proactive efforts in making positive choices. Keep up the great work boys and girls. RHR, that’s who we are! - PBL Team

Sport
A huge congratulations to all students who represented Narromine Public School in the district Gobondery/NARRAF swimming carnival in Narromine on Friday 21 February. From this carnival 17 NPS students have advanced through to the Western Carnival in Dubbo on Friday 13 March. Please remember to return your note ASAP. Just a reminder for students in Year 3-6 that swimming will continue for the remainder of the term. Students need to bring their swimmers, towel, sunscreen and hat. It is expected that students participate every week as sport is a compulsory component of the curriculum. If for some reason one week they are unable to participate please send a note to their classroom teacher explaining why they cannot participate. Trials and training have begun for a variety of PSSA sports and gala days for students in Stage 2 and Stage 3. Students need to be displaying positive behaviour and listening to morning messages to ensure that they arrive at these sessions if they wish to be considered for these teams.
