of the Year!

To attain nominee status for Junior Sportsperson of the Year Award, candidates must be exceptional, driven and talented. The award recognises the potential that carries young people involved in sport into elite and athlete status.

Kang Han Taekwondo Club are proud that one of these nominees was sports fighting team member: Danny Brewer. Prouder still, to announce that he recently received the award after being shortlisted to three finalists. Within the category originally were seven rising stars from other Olympic Sports such as: Gymnastics,

Windsurfing, Badminton, Fencing and Kayaking. All

nominees were well-deserving young sports people who have accomplished great things at an impressively early age.

Danny is just as deserving. Fighting at numerous Regionals, he has kicked the competition to win Gold and Silver multiple times. But its Danny’s recent successes in competition that put him in good stead for the award. He won gold in the cadets -57kg category in 2012, thus, earning him the title of National Champion. Only recently, June 2013, Danny fought in his first European competition in Australia. Even

more recently in September, he competed in the National Championships once more where he won all three fights, achieving Junior 63kg Champion status.

15-year-old Danny commented: “I feel really honoured about receiving this award. I love my training and I’m ambitious enough to want more and more success. My coaches, Tony and Kiel, are amazing. I couldn’t have done it without them.”

The Junior Sportsperson of the year award was presented to Danny by Nick Carding, Sports Writer for the Newark Advertiser. It’s also the first time such an award has been given by Newark and Sherwood District Council, and it must be acknowledged that Danny’s

Sports Grant funding from them has certainly endorsed the talent pathway that has enabled him to achieve it.

The young Taekwondoist, who currently lives in Rainworth, also practices sporting diligence away from his club. He’s an Ambassador as well as Sports Leader at his school, Joseph

Whittaker. As an Ambassador, he was able to attend Wembley earlier this year. He had the chance not only to experience the incredible event close up, but also to

meet some of Great Britain’s Olympic Athletes. No doubt opportunities such as these spur young Danny on to achieve his own aspirations and goals.

Coach Tony Grisman commented: “We are really proud of Danny. He trains so hard and it’s pleasing to see that it’s starting to pay off for him. He’s such a natural athlete, he’s only just starting to understand the raw talent that he’s got. At such a

young age, he has a real opportunity to develop further and to achieve whatever he sets his mind to.”

With such discernable talent and enthusiasm, he’s also certain to do so!

A huge congratulation from British Taekwondo and Kang Han Taekwondo Club, and another well done not only for excelling in Taekwondo but also for the positive efforts made outside of it. Great stuff Danny!
