What if a loved one is in a nursing home?We know for some a nursing home or assisted living center is home. Hospice can still help. We can enhance the care for the terminally ill, and offer their families the same care and peace of mind when facing the loss of a loved one no matter where “home” is.

What other services are provided? In addition to registered nurses who are specialist in symptom management and pain control, hospice offers social workers and counselors to help the family make emotional adjustments to the illness and its progression. Chaplains offer spiritual support as requested. Certified home health aides help by providing patient physical care and hygiene. Trained volunteers offer assistance and companionship for the patient and the family. Therapists, dieticians, and pharmacists are available. We also provide home medical equipment service.

How does Hospice work with my doctor? The hospice team works directly with the patient’s doctor to provide optimum care.

What does Hospice do?Whatever serious illness you or your loved one is facing, Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice’s experienced team of medical professionals provide palliative care to relieve pain and promote quality end of life care for the patient and comfort to the family.

When is it time for Hospice? The sooner you call, the greater the benefit to you and your family. Our hospice staff is trained to offer peace of mind in addition to medical care. When you or your family are facing a loved one’s illness, our hospice team can offer guidance and support. The last months, weeks or days of life are precious and should be peaceful and comfortable.

How is Hospice paid for?Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance covers hospice care. When patients have no insurance coverage, Karen Ann Quinlan Memorial Foundation makes hospice care available regardless of ability to pay.

What if I need extra help?Hospice can arrange extra relief for caregivers who must work, travel or rest for a period of time. The special help includes extended hours of a home health aide’s care or the temporary placement of the patient in a respite care facility.
