Karen BergKaren tuned into spirituality at a very young age. As a child who didn’t

know her father, she was raised by an independent woman. Transferringfrom school to school, Karen was unable to put down roots. As a result ofthis unconventional and nomadic existence, Karen was often mocked by herpeers.

One night a gang of school kids threw Karen into a construction pit.She couldn’t get out and thought she would die there until she heard a voicethat said, “Don’t cry. You’ll see there’s a reason for everything that’s comedown in your life.” She was only ten years old at the time, but since thatexperience, she knew there was a higher power. This event incited Karen tosearch for greater meaning and connection. She began to study spirituality,reincarnation, healing energy, and astrology. By the age of 18 she was amedium.

She married young and had two daughters. But Karen wasn’t born fora traditional lifestyle and felt that one day her true calling would berevealed.

For a time she worked for Rav Berg as an administrator. Nine yearspassed, and life changed for them both, but they were reconnected througha business associate. When Karen learned the Rav was studying Kabbalah,she said to him “I’ll work for free if you teach me.” In those days, womenwere forbidden to study Kabbalah. But being open-minded, Rav Berg soughtguidance and asked his teacher to come to him in a dream. Without anysign of approval, the following day he meant to inform Karen that hewouldn’t be able to teach her. But instead Karen surprised him by sharing adream she had about a holy looking man. By her description of the man’sgarb and foreign language, the Rav knew this was his teacher. This was thepermission for which he had asked. It was a pivotal moment in Kabbalistichistory, and in their personal lives.

Karen delved deep into the study of Kabbalah and years later theymarried. It was Karen who said to the Rav, “Look I’m no great big soul. If Ican understand this wisdom then others can too. Let’s open The KabbalahCentre to everyone.” Since that time 40 years ago, Karen has committed herlife to introducing the teachings of Kabbalah as a practical tool foractualizing potential, and to expanding the presence of spirituality in theworld.
