Good Morning, my name is Karen Villalba :)



Growing up in south Florida, I been privileged to be surroundedby the ocean and warm cozy weather, but





Noticing that people have dif erent dialects and various ways of interpreting things, it was due to this observations that Idecided to apply to an art magnet in miami called



past work

HIGH SCHOOL

design and architecture senior high, place were I encountervisual communication for the first time and the school that gaveme the foundation of the designer I am now. This is some of my

past work, in which my exploration of overlay started andcollaging... another passions that was developed during mytime in school was



fashion



in my internship at Onboard media in miami, a company ownedby Louis Vuitton,



I was able to work on spreads for caesar's player and discoverstyle magazine and work on their handbags aimed for thecaribbean called parazul a place were I learned about fashion



my love for fashion didn’t stop there, I partner up with a localmiami fashion designer Jonathan Miranda and developed hisidentity as well as his website



Starting at KCAI , I was still interested in collaging andlayering...



layering I explored in 3 dif erent areas: analog, digital, materialand information



the bad plus

ANALOG LAYERING

Using the process of collage in an analog manner. I created a poster to reflectthe music of the bad plus . A contemporary jazz band breaking the boundariesof jazz.

DIGITAL LAYERING

the mailer bauer bodoni prone to akzidenz grosteque, in whichdigital layering played a role in showing the interaction of thesetwo contrasting typefaces

using material as transparencies to create the sense of globalwarming which was executed by Ray and I in our re-design of national geographic six degrees

using vellum in my selection of poems by getrude stein whichthrough the use of this material was to reflect simultaneity of language and the ephemeral qualities of objects

As an advocate fashion I decided to use collaging in the underthe label exhibit to demonstrates the industries force andconsumerism in printed media. Through this system I developedan understanding for designing for various platforms,



platforms that users have dif erent interactions. Interaction andthe role of user became important components in my work.Users have various needs, therefore I began developing systemswith tailorable components...

405 peak, a brand and system has components in which aretailored to their customers, with elements such coasters, havean area where users can record their wine tasting experience



cna: caregiver’s guide

CNA conserve nurture and accommodate: a caregivers guidewith simple activities to help physical and mental health.Designed specifically for the caregiver and their needs.



WE ARE online community, developed in collaboration with Rayfor ESL High school students. Whom are need of learningenglish,making friends and providing them with the opportunityof graduating and going to college



in which I was abel to design various platforms: the ipad withcustomizable components, in this case it alllows the use totoggle notes in spanish

DEGREE PROJECT

my degree project will address : How can graphic design,eliminate the cluster of information seeing on the user interfaceof BMW cars as well as providing the user with the overallexperience of joy?



In collaboration with my brother a transportation designer, hewill be creating the BMW i6 concept car, part of BMW i3 conceptseries in which it will focus in the user and BMW essence of Joy



We spend a great deal inside a car, right now the industry focuson the outside yet the inside is still outdated and confusing.



HUMAN INTERFACE

My role will be creating a user interface so that is safe,tailorable to each of the passengers needs and create theoverall feel of enjoyment by implementing technology: anintelligent assistant, new human interface, as inspiration sirifrom the new iphone. Sensors and touchscreen control boardand of course with capabilities of sync all your other platformssuch as your phone, ipad to the car.
