People changed and media affects on people changed too. Ruralresidents want to know whats going on in their community.Everything else seems distant and irrelevant.
But city dwellers want to know about their entire city and are morelikely to consider national events and policies relevant to them. Sothis social change altered media affects on people.
Other social changes such as migration, stratification, and upward
mobility have similarly influenced media affects on people.

Subcultures also influence media affects onpeople. Subcultures emerge from the natural tendencyfor people to associate with other people likethemselves.
For example, people from different countries, who moveto the USA, often maintain their home nation culture byassociating primarily with others from that nation, whoalso practice that culture.
But subcultures can evolve from interests, religiousbeliefs, socio-economic factors. People from differentsubcultures use different types of media, for differentpurposes, and are influenced by media differently.
