The Kala Chethena Kathakali Company is one of the world`s foremost I, ndian theatre companies. Credited with developing Kathakali in the UK via their hugely successful tours, the company returns to this country in the spring and summer of 2015 with a tour of Kathakali – the classical dance drama of Kerala, South India.
Kathaklai meaning story – play, embraces darma, dance, music, visuals and ritual to create the most exotic, visually exciting and powerful forms of theatre – colourful costumes, elaborate three dimensional make-up [known as Chutti] magically transforms the actors into gods, kings, devils and princesses. They tell universal stories from the Hindu epics featuring the struggle between good and evil through gesture,
emotion and incredible facial expressions.
This tour offers a rare opportunity to see superb
international artists from kerala perform this exceptional legendary art form
and experience extraordinary
