Why is outdoor
education necessary?
Outdoor education is necessary for:
• Hands-on experience• Learning history where it occurred• Movement• Team work• Healthy bodies• Engaging students in learning• Appreciation of local environment• Positive self-esteem
Learning outdoors is FUN!
To help me teach outdoors, I need:
• Cost efficient programs• Experts willing to share their knowledge• Time frame (season, length of program)• Teaching in a creative manner• Volunteers to drive• Programs that are curriculum based• Supplies (backpacks, journals, etc)• Previsit for teachers (background knowledge)
My Personal Closing Thoughts
• I want my students to enjoy learning.• I want my students to remember what I taught
them.• I want my students to feel a connection to
nature.• I want my students to have new experiences.• I want my students to smile.• I want my students to participate in all learning
activities by their own choosing (not because I told them to).
Future? -Helen Keller“To me a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass is more welcome than the most luxurious Persian rug.”-Kevin Costner (Field of Dreams)“If you build it, he will come.”-William Shakepeare“One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.”
