Dear Parents, Carers and Community, Exciting news: Meet our New P and C Committee for 2019-2020 The P and C held its annual general meeting last week and we have a new committee to see us into mid next year. President – Kazzia Kelly Treasurer – Sylvia Szabo

Vice President – Helen Flint Canteen Coordinator – Briana (Bre) Moyle

Secretary – Roslyn Goddard Uniform Coordinator – Caroline Gilligan-Payne I would personally like to acknowledge the previous P and C committee and the support they have given both to myself and the school. I know some of the outgoing members of the committee will be there to assist and support the various events our P and C committee plan. I visited stage 2 (years 3 and 4) last Friday as they worked on their technology presentations. The topic was Australia and Japan with students needing to present information about both countries using powerpoint and its many features. The work I saw was fantastic with many special effects being utilised. My year 2 reading group are completing research and a project based on seahorses which has stemmed from a book we read. They have used Ipads to find out more information about the seahorse and are now presenting their work for display. Did you know there are 45 species of seahorses? Years 5 and 6 spent some time with Mr Chris Tobin an Aboriginal community member. Chris first came to our school in NAIDOC week and we hope he can continue to work with stage 3 next year especially with writing and science. When I visited some 5/6 students using the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) kits I was amazed at the devices they were creating. There was activity in all parts of the room. The STEM kit has certainly been a worthwhile “borrow” to have this term. Year 1 are gardeners “extraordinaire”. They are growing plants in the wet area of the infants block and are checking on them every day. We have kindly been given seeds for Woolworths and I know Ms Cliff is keen to use these seeds in 2020. I have watched our Friday morning cycling group. Students now are safer on bikes and are looking forward to using the bikes in a larger area than under the COLA. My thanks this newsletter include: The outgoing P and C committee for their work supporting the school during 2018-2019. The unidentified student who was polite to a visitor from Public Works. The visitor who goes to many schools in NSW was astounded at how polite one student was. In fact he commented that he had never heard students who were so polite as he moved around KNPS in any other school. Students in Kindy who have looked after a new Kinder Bees student who was very upset. Special thanks to Jackson and Toby. Amanda for volunteering to assist with swim school this week. Mrs Cullen for phoning half of our parents last week to notify them the school was closed on Tuesday. (She saved me hours).

Principal’s Log - Monday 18th November – 20.00 hours

Well done to all the students who recently planted the native plants at school. The plants were kindly donated by Wild Plant Rescue. School Reconciliation Challenge

Congratulations Poppy Newman, James Cayzer and Yanna Anderson-Hughes for

creating ‘Heart Sun’ for this year’s Schools Reconciliation Challenge. ‘Heart Sun’ was

chosen and awarded for this year’s exhibition at the Power House Museum. This artwork will travel on exhibition all around

regional NSW in 2020. It will be exhibited at many of the National Trusts Historic Houses. This is an incredible achievement by these

three young artists. You have made our school very proud. Ms Abela

Christmas is on the way and we are busily preparing for a community concert and carol singing at the Carrington Hotel on Thursday 5th December at 6 pm. We hope you’ll come along in your full school uniform and sing some carols. The three carols will be: The First Noel, Silent Night and O Christmas Tree. So brush up on the lyrics. We will be performing with some other schools and choirs led by Damien Beaumont from ABC Radio. We also have some of our musicians and singers performing, so we hope that you’ll be there to support them also. Would anyone like a Piano, for free? If you can take it away, it’s yours. Please see Ms Catriona.

SCHOOL CONTRIBUTION

The school contribution is a small yearly contribution that is used towards the cost of classroom resources, arts and crafts, materials, books and sporting equipment. If you can pay your contribution, could you please do so through the school office? Fees are as follows:

$42.00 per year for 1 child $75.00 per year for 2 children or $90.00 per year for 3 children or more.

The Blue Mountains Music Festival (18 weeks to go) The Blue Mountains Music Festival P&C organisational committee met this week in order to prepare for the 25th Anniversary of the festival. Planned for the 13, 14 and 15th March 2020, the festival is already boasting some big name acts, such as Kasey Chambers and John Butler among many others over eight stages. Go to bmff.org.au to see a full line up — it’s going to be a great one. The committee is made up of volunteer Mums and Dads from Katoomba Public School, Katoomba North Public and Katoomba High School. We look after all the volunteers, four bars, merch tent and clean up crew. Marina Brown (parent of Archie Taylor Brown in year 5) has been co-ordinating the Clean Up Crew for the last 6 years, and will be seeking more help in this role for 2020, her final year as a Katoomba North parent. It would be great to have another KNPS parent to hand the role over to. In my humble position as PR (parent relations) person, I’ll be contributing to the school newsletters and keeping you up to date with all that is planned for this exciting event. Currently, we are looking for a few more parents to join the committee. So if you love music, love our town and want to help out, check out the positions or just get in touch. We’re looking for two bar managers to run one of the bars and anyone interested in running kids activities during the weekend. Applications to volunteer over the festival weekend will open early January 2020 via the festival website. And ‘like’ the festival Facebook page to keep up to date when new performers are announced. Contact Matt on [email protected] to find out more or ask any questions.
