Who are we, and what do

we do?The Simmons College chapter of ASIS&T (the Association for Information Science and Technology) is a student group devoted to technology as it relates to the field of library and information science. We plan events throughout the year covering a wide range of topics, including web design and coding, usability, 3D printing, data visualization, and open access.

➔ The DERAIL (Diversity, Equity, Race, Accessibility, and Identity in LIS) Forum was a student-led event initiated to address the need for critical discussions of the intersections between social justice issues and the roles of students and information professionals.

➔ The ASIS&T presentation – “Digital Accessibility in Libraries, Archives, and Museums” – addressed accessibility as it relates to the patron-facing online presence of libraries, archives, and museums, as well as the relationship between technology and accessibility within the walls of these institutions.

Jason Griffey & Innovative Library Technology

Wednesday, May 11, 2016The Earl Center for Learning and Innovation Wheelock College

➔ End-of-the-year reception featured an hour-long lecture, Q&A, and technology demo with Jason Griffey – a fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University and founder of Evenly Distributed, a technology consulting and creation firm for libraries, museums, education, and other non-profits.

➔ Griffey discussed several of his groundbreaking projects, including LibraryBox, Measure the Future, and his most recent work on blockchain and other decentralization technologies that provide open and robust access to information.
