Nighttown of course is named after the Dublin red-light district where this tale takes place. There are dozens of Bloomsday celebrations around the world, and the one here held at Nighttown is quite famous, even being cited in Wikipedia . Held in Nighttown's Tiffany Room, come attired in period clothing, or come as you are. Stepping out on his own, as a group leader, was a long time coming for KCHarmon, as he finally decided to pursue his dream of becoming a blues singer 10years ago. Prior to seeking the spotlight, he had served as road manager for TravisHaddad, one of the most widely recognized and regarded blues performers inCleveland for 22 years, before the urge to try his own luck overpowered him. KChas recorded one CD titled Everybody Gone Crazy. He is presently working on hissecond and writes his own material. Sir Kahil El’zabar is revered globally as a cultural visionary and an innovativemusic conceptualist. He has recorded more than 60 acclaimed projects as theleader, composer, and arranger. El’Zabar, who holds a PHD in Inter/DisciplinaryArts from Lake Forest College, has worked with such luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie,Pharoah Sanders, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Cannon Ball Adderly, Archie Shepp,Paul Simon, Lester Bowie and more. In May 2014, Sir Kahil El’Zabar was Knightedby the Council General of France, making him a (Chevalier Medal De Lettres).
David Murray is one of the most recorded musicians as a leader in the history ofjazz, with well over 200 celebrated projects. Murray was one of the foundingmembers of the World Saxophone Quartet and has worked with greats like, Elvin
Jones, Jack DeJohnette, Mc Coy Tyner, Lester Bowie, Jerry Garcia, Max Roach, AmiriBaraka, and Randy Weston. He is currently working with Macy Gray as part of hisDavid Murray Big Band. In 2012, David Murray received an Honorary Doctorate OfMusic Degree from Pomona College, Claremont, California. He has won numerousawards over his vast career garnering a Grammy Award for the Best JazzInstrumental Group Performance, for his Tribute to John Coltrane and aGuggenheim Fellowship.

World-renowned guitarist and singer JOHN PIZZARELLI has been hailed by theBoston Globe for “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-popularizingjazz.” The Toronto Star pegged him as “the genial genius of the guitar,” and theSeattle Times saluted him as “a rare entertainer of the old school.”
Established as one of the prime contemporary interpreters of the Great AmericanSongbook, Pizzarelli has expanded that repertoire by including the music of PaulMcCartney, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Antônio Carlos Jobim and TheBeatles. His themed shows, often performed with his wife Jessica Molaskey, suggestthere is no limit to Pizzarelli’s imagination or talent.
Having concentrated on the music of Paul McCartney, Johnny Mercer and FrankSinatra over the last two years, Pizzarelli has returned to the bossa nova of AntonioCarlos Jobim with his July 28, 2017 Concord Jazz release Sinatra & Jobim @ 50.With co-vocalist Daniel Jobim, grandson of the legendary Brazilian composer, thetwo explore songs Sinatra and Jobim recorded in 1967 and 1969 as well as add newsongs to the mix flavored with the spirit of the classic Francis Albert Sinatra andAntonio Carlos Jobim album.
Pizzarelli’s latest album for Concord is a follow-up to his wildly successful MidnightMcCartney, an album The New Yorker said “may be the best collection of McCartneycovers ever recorded.”
Since its release in 2015, Pizzarelli has toured North America, South America, Asiaand Europe performing shows centered on Frank Sinatra’s centennial, the songs ofJohnny Mercer and a McCartney program in which his quartet is joined by stringsand a horn section. He also tours on a double bill with pianist Ramsey Lewis and islooking forward to touring a celebration of Nat King Cole’s music for his centennial,which will be in 2019.
While plenty of jazz greats influenced his work – Benny Goodman, Les Paul, Zoot
Sims, Clark Terry and Slam Stewart, among others – Cole has been Pizzarelli’s heroand foundation over the last 25 years. He devoted two albums to his music, DearMr. Cole in 1994 and P.S. Mr. Cole, recorded and released five years later.
In addition to being a bandleader and solo performer, John has been a special gueston recordings for major pop names such as James Taylor, Natalie Cole, KristinChenoweth, Tom Wopat, Rickie Lee Jones and Dave Van Ronk, as well as leadingjazz artists such as Rosemary Clooney, Ruby Braff, Johnny Frigo, Buddy DeFranco,Harry Allen and, of course, Bucky Pizzarelli. He was featured opposite DonnaSummer, Jon Secada and Roberta Flack on the GRAMMY Award-winning CD, Songsfrom the Neighborhood: The Music of Mr. Rogers in 2005.

One of the senior statesman of the Cleveland Jazz Scene, organist Eddie BaccusSr. has set the standard locally since the early 1960's. Like the late great JimmySmith, Baccus is a virtuoso on the Hammond B-3, equally adept at soul jazz andbebop. In many ways Eddie Baccus Sr. has been to the jazz scene what the lateRobert Jr. Lockwood was to the local blues scene; he has been a leader, mentor,and the soul of the community for many years.
Early on his talent was evident as he was linked with another jazz legend,saxophonist Roland Kirk. Baccus and Kirk were schoolmates at the Ohio School ofthe Blind and their sessions together in the old Euclid and 105th area are the stuffof local legends. Kirk would go on to national acclaim before his untimely death inthe late 70's. Baccus stayed close to home and it has been our good fortune.
Eddie Baccus Sr. has been the bedrock of the Cleveland jazz scene and hisinfluence on fans and musicians alike has been invaluable. After 15 years of recording and touring with famed urban jazz ensemble Pieces of aDream, saxophonist Eddie Baccus, Jr. stepped out on a lush, soulful and funkyJourney To Love, his independent debut demo to promote him for upcoming shows.Though it has been extraordinarily well received, Baccus is excited about a remixedand remastered version of the collection, which also features three new songs. TheCleveland born and raised, Virginia based artist will be releasing the revampedversion as part of a package with his soon to be released follow-up album whosetitle perfectly reflects Baccus’ life and career as he reflects on the last 20 years andlooks forward to the future: Living The Dream.
Baccus is currently putting the finishing touches on the new album, which willfeature jazz greats like keyboardist Russell Ferrante of the Yellowjackets, fellow

Eddie Sr. has frequentlyappeared with Cecil's group Good Vibes. Billy Artis is on guitar. Many willremember Billy from his days backing the late great Bill Doggett at the Theatricalin downtown Cleveland. Perry Williams III is on drums. By its very definition, the term gospel means 'good news,’ music that is deeplyrooted in the rich traditions of the African-American church. During the late 1800s,African-American churches in the southern United States started fusing variousstyles of music into their worship services, including African-American spirituals,hymns, and sacred songs. At the heart of the gospel music tradition was the use ofa choir. The types of music sung by the gospel choir followed the call-and-responseformat similar to that used in traditional hymns and sacred songs.
The traditional structure of gospel music changed in the late 1930s with the birthof ‘gospel blues,’ which combined blues and jazz with traditional gospel music. Later on came other variations, including ‘gospel quartet,’ ‘contemporary gospel,’‘praise and worship’ and in the late ‘50s and early 1960s, ‘soul music’ appeared, asbest exemplified by the music of Ben E. King (Stand by Me), Aretha Franklin andmany other Motown and soul artists.
Dr. David Thomas has a Bachelor and Master degrees in Music Education fromCase Western Reserve, as well as a Master degree in Music Composition from
Cleveland State University. David did post-graduate work at the Royal HollowayCollege (U.K.), Camden University (London), then completed his course of studiesin the doctoral Music program at Kent State University.
David is a piano, organ and keyboard specialist with the ability to play five otherinstruments. Music, composed by David Thomas for choir and orchestra, entitled“The Creation Sermon”, had excellent reviews and repeat performances by populardemand. He has directed The Cleveland Chamber Symphony Orchestra. He is co-author of a book entitled “A Child’s First Book of Spirituals”, which is the recipientof the Coretta Scott King Award.
David has toured with Major Harris and recorded with the world renownedSaxophonist Phil Woods & The Saint Thomas Quartet. He has performed with otherartists including Jennifer Holiday, Roz Ryan, James Cleveland, Dizzy Gillespie,Albert Ayler, Jean Carne, David Ruffin, Grover Washington, David Sanborn, andGerald Levert.
David is a member of the music staff at Southeast Seventh Day Adventist Church.He served as the director of music at the Morning Star Baptist, Saint TimothyBaptist and Associate Minister of Music at Olivet Institutional, and Liberty HillBaptist Church. He is presently a worship leader at South Euclid United Church ofChrist, a faculty member at Richmond Heights Schools System and music directorof the Cleveland All-City performance after school program.

The emergence of saxophonist Mike Phillips marks the beginning of a new, excitingchapter in the jazz music scene. A rare combination of youthful exuberance andseasoned craftsmanship, Mike is poised to take his position among the leaders in hisfield.
Mike began his musical odyssey at the age of five in his native Mt. Vernon, NY.After experimenting with an assortment of instruments including acoustic andelectric bass, violin, piano, French horn and trumpet, he focused on the saxophonebecause it was the vehicle best suited to express his creative passion.
In the summer of 1993, Mike made his presence felt on the music scene with hisnow legendary debut performance at the well-known New York City jazz & R&Bspot, Wilson's. Invited there by a friend who was playing keyboards with the houseband, Mike literally walked on stage and, much to the surprise of the band leader,began to blow before anyone asked him to sit in. The looks of bewilderment quicklyturned to smiles and the rest, as they say, is history.
Mike has been a regular there ever since, performing with such artists as Babyface,Rachelle Farrell, Brian McKnight, Boyz II Men, and the artist formerly known asPrince. He has also showcased his extraordinary talent via performances throughoutthe US and abroad, touring with such notables as Teddy Riley & Blackstreet,Jonathan Butler, Simply Red, Wayman Tisdale, Kenny Lattimore and theincomparable Stevie Wonder.
In 1996, Mike was invited to perform at President Clinton's Inaugural Gala held atThe Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Other milestone events include the 80thBirthday Celebration for President Nelson Mandela in South Africa, a Superbowlappearance with Stevie Wonder, and the Billboard Music Awards. Mike's televisioncredits include Saturday Night Live, The David Letterman Show, BET On Jazz, BETSound Stage, and The Tonight Show.
Mike’s artistry exceeds category, as shown by his recording sessions with anassortment of diverse performers including the late rapper Notorious B.I.G., megamovie star and recording artist Will Smith, vocalist Mariah Carey, and the gospelensemble Anointed.

The career of Bob James is long, varied and continues to evolve at every turn. Fromhis first days in Marshall, Missouri, the music of Bob James has captivatedaudiences throughout the world.
Discovered by Quincy Jones at the Notre Dame Jazz Festival in 1963, Jamesrecorded his first solo album, Bold Conceptions, that year for Mercury Records. 58albums and innumerable awards would follow through five decades. He honed hisskills working with Creed Taylor, working on albums for artists like Hank Crawford,Grover Washington, Jr, among others. While with CTI, James found great popularsuccess overseeing significant hits for Paul Simon, Neil Diamond, MaynardFerguson, and Kenny Loggins.
In 1974, James finally recorded his own album, One, which launched a lifelongcareer of recording and performing live. After three more albums, James began hisown label, Tappan Zee Records. This allowed James to spend more time in thestudio, focusing on his own creative works. It was during this time that herecorded his own gold seller, Touchdown, which included his composition, “Angela”,the instrumental theme from the sitcom Taxi, and possibly James’ best know work. Bob composed all the original music used in that television series for its entire run.One On One, the first in three collaborations with Earl Klugh, was awarded aGrammy in 1980 for Best Pop Instrumental Performance, and has sold over amillion copies. During this time, James set the standard for the smooth jazz soundin the late 1970s.
In 1985 James moved to Warner Bros Records, and kicked things off with DoubleVision, a collaboration with David Sanborn, and produced by Tommy LiPuma. Double Vision was another Grammy winner, selling over a million albums.
While recording his album, Grand Piano Canyon, in 1990, James reunited withlongtime friend, drummer Harvey Mason, Jr. It would also be the first time Jameswould work with guitarist Lee Ritenour, and bassist Nathan East. This would be thestart of something beautiful, as these early sessions ignited a spark which wouldengulf the Jazz world as Fourplay. Fourplay’s first album was recorded and releasedin 1991. The Group would collaborate on a total of three albums, until 1998 when
Ritenour left the group, and Larry Carlton took over. This version of Fourplaycontinued the group’s huge success for seven more albums. After 12 years, Carltondecided to delve further into his solo career, and the band brought in guitaristChuck Loeb in 2010.
A personal and professional highlight was the collaboration with his daughter,Hilary, on their Flesh & Blood album, which toured 15 U.S. cities. Her new EP five-song EP Traces reveals herlatest evolution, a sleek and sensuous electronica-laced sound with even a trace ortwo of dance floor sweat.
Steadily evolving in many directions, the 25-yearold Cressman has already putdown deep roots in several overlapping scenes. A prodigiously talented New YorkCity-based trombonist, she’s spent the past seven years touring the jam bandcircuit as a horn player and vocalist with Phish's Trey Anastasio (and recently playedwith Phish at Madison Square Garden). Deeply versed in Latin jazz, post-bop, pop,and Brazilian music, she tapped the interlaced traditions on her first two soloalbums, 2012’s Unfolding and 2014’s Turn the Sea.
The Traces EP follows on the heels of 2016’s Etchings in Amber, a gorgeous duoalbum with guitarist Mike Bono that introduced Cressman as a formidable musicalforce without her horn. While the project focuses on songs featuring lyrics she wrotefor several Bono compositions, Cressman also wrote words and music for three ofher songs, contributing to the atmospheric suite of jazz-inflected, genre-bendingtunes.
With Traces, Cressman expands her creative reach into post-production,meticulously crafting Soundscaped tracks. His latest project, "The Red Guitar" is a one-man "jazz libretto" is acomical, poignantly philosophical insight into the world of a jazz musician.
Together, Forman and McDougald (the "Cowboy" of Bebop Jazz Guitar and the"Flapper Girl" of Modern Vocal Jazz), are touring the country, with a musicalvignette which incorporates aspects of Bruce's "The Red Guitar" and Erin's dynamic,improvisational reinventions of songs within and outside of the jazz idiom. Two Big Nights!
At long last, Kinky Friedman’s second musical act begins. With the proclamationthat it “is what music was, before it came homogenized, trivialized and sanitized,”Kinky is dropping his first all new cd of original tunes in four decades. Called CircusOf Life, it presents a side of Kinky that few would have suspected in the halcyondays of the Texas Jewboys, laying perhaps legit claim to the title, “The LeonardCohen of Texas.”
And on July 3rd, he will be releasing it on his own terms and on his own Echo HillRecords label. The first single, Autographs In The Rain (Song To Willie) is alreadyin heavy rotation on SiriusXM Outlaw Country.
Like so many cool people in the boom generation, Kinky Friedman first saw theworld through the Peace Corps in the sixties. It was in Borneo that Kinky began towrite the tunes that would propel the rest of his life.
When he returned to the states, he formed his band, Kinky Friedman and TheTexas Jewboys. For his first album, Kinky released ‘Sold American’ in 1973 forVanguard Records. His repertoire mixed social commentary (‘We Reserve the Rightto Refuse Service to You’) and maudlin ballads (‘Western Union Wire’) with raucoushumor (such as ‘Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in Bed’). His ‘Ride'Em Jewboy’ was an extended tribute to the victims of the Holocaust, and one of hismost famous tunes from this session, ‘They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore,’is still on many hip playlists.
In the mid-'70s, Friedman and the Jewboys toured with Bob Dylan & the RollingThunder Revue. By 1976 he had recorded his third album, ‘Lasso From El Paso,’featuring appearances by Dylan and Eric Clapton. Friedman moved to New York,where he became a Sunday night fixture at the legendary Lone Star Café, oftenfeaturing guests like Robin Williams and John Belushi.
Kinky was a musical guest on Saturday Night Live in October 1976, the first year ofSNL.
Starting in the early eighties, Friedman shifted his creative focus to writing
detective novels. During this period, his musings began appearing in such placesas the New York Times, Playboy and Texas Monthly .
In 1986, Kinky took a break from writing and touring to try something new -politics. He ran for justice of the peace in his home town of Kerrville, Texas. Thenagain in 2004, the Kinkster returned to the political field, this time daring the stateof Texas to think big and elect him governor in 2006. Kinky garnered over a halfmillion votes - not good enough to win it, but good enough to influence Texaspolitics.
In February 2007, Sustain Records released a compilation of the songs of KinkyFriedman sung by other artists called ‘Pearls In The Snow.’ The album includescontributions by Dwight Yoakam, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, and Kelly Willis.
And now on July 3rd, he will be releasing his first all-new self-penned album innearly forty years, ‘Circus Of Life.’
A native of Colorado, pianist Jackie Warren originally came to Ohio to study classicalpiano at Oberlin Conservatory, where she graduated with a B.M. in performance.While at Oberlin, she also studied jazz arranging, composition, and theory withWendell Logan, who became a mentor to her, and encouraged her to study jazzpiano with Neal Creque and jazz improvisation with Kenny Davis. Jackie received aM.M. from Cleveland State University in classical piano performance, and has beenCleveland favorite ever since.
Jackie performs regularly as a soloist, but has her own jazz trio, which includesbassist Peter Dominguez and drummer Ron Godale. She also arranges and playssalsa and Latin jazz with percussionist Sammy Deleon y Su Orquesta. In addition tothese groups, Jackie has performed locally and nationally with such artists andgroups as David Fathead Newman, Benny Bailey, Clark Terry, Frank Morgan, BobbyWatson, Frank Foster, Jane Bunnett and the Spirits of Havana, Othello Molineaux,Donald Harrison, Gerald Wilson, Jimmy Heath, Impacto Nuevo, Humberto Ramirez,Tony Vega, Tito Rojas, Tito Puente, Jr., Hector Tricoche, Percy Sledge, KingSolomon, the Jazz Heritage Orchestra, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, and the AfroCleveland Orchestra.
Jackie is also an educator and clinician, and has taught jazz arranging andcomposition and coached jazz combos at Oberlin. She is currently on the JazzStudies Faculty at Cuyahoga Community College, Metro Campus. She is also on thefaculty at the Cleveland Music School Settlement.
Joshua Smith is a saxophonist/multi instrumentalist residing in the San FranciscoBay area. He has been performing for the past 20 years with a wide array of notablejazz and creative musicians, beginning in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.
Joshua has performed in the straight-ahead jazz realm for the past 20 years. Hiscurrent sidemen are the best of the San Francisco Bay area. Growing up, Smithbegan gigging at a very early age with older jazzmen of his hometown, Cleveland,Ohio... He was a member of "Greg Bandy's Young Lions'" and studied undersaxophone iconoclast Ernie Krivda.
Scott has performed with funk drumming legend Clyde Stubblefield, toured as a
member of The Youngblood Brass Band, and bluegrass legend Peter Rowan.
He's been a member of The Scott Amendola Quartet for the last five years, havingperformed with guitar luminary Nels Cline, at John Zorn's NYC venue, The Stone.
In 2010 he acted as music director and contributing composer to the "Leave MeAlone" opera, an avant garde jazz opera written by Smith's good friend HarveyPekar, at Oberlin College.
