USE

For lightening and coloring hair simultaneously

Measuring spoonful of KC Bleach (25 grams) + 40 ml KC Oxid 1.5%, 3% or 6% + 5–15 ml PRISM color-pigment concentrate. Process-ing time 10–40 minutes depending on desired result. Wash and condition hair. Recommend the corresponding shade of Color Mask inten-sive treatment for home use.

Pastel lightening

Use 2–5 ml of color concentrate. Measuring spoonful of KC Bleach and 40 ml KC Oxid oxidizer for light bases (7–9).

For toning lightened hair

Apply a suitable amount of PRISM color pigment concentrate directly to washed and towel-dried hair, for example with a sponge. (Note! Do not use conditioner before applying color.) Allow 5–10 minutes to take effect. Rinse. Recommend the corresponding shade of Color Mask intensive treatment for home use.

To intensify color applied to hair

Mix PRISM color-pigment concentrate with 5–10 ml prepared color mass. Mix thoroughly and color hair normally. Recommend the corresponding shade of Color Mask intensive treatment for home use.

HINTS

Amount of color

You can control the intensity of the final result by adjusting the amount of color. By increasing the amount of color you can create a stronger end result, while decreasing it makes the final result softer and pastel-like.

Lightening brown highlights

Brown is optimal for color levels 1–3. When the base color is lighter or hair is porous, decrease the amount of color concentrate and/or mix in a warm shade, for example Gold Copper.

Special coloring techniques

You can use conditioner to cover parts of the hair that you do not want color to adhere to. PRISM color-pigment concentrate does not adhere to hair treated with conditioner. Follow the instructions provided until you are confident about working with PRISM colors. Soon you will have unlimited possibilities for mixing a myriad of colors!

All PRISM colors can be mixed together to create an infinite number of new color combinations.

KC COLOR REMOVER Color remover that retains natural pigment

Gently and easily removes artificial pigment from hair using a chemical process that breaks down the color-molecule chain. Can be used to remove color partially or entirely. Phased color removal is easy to monitor and control. Final result is vibrant, shiny hair.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

1 / Mix solutions 1 and 2 in a mixing bowl 1:1. Amount depends on the length of hair to be processed. If you use a mixing bottle, shake for at least 45 seconds. Apply the mixture quickly and evenly into dry hair where there is undesired color. Use the mixture immediately after mixing, since its effectiveness decreases over time. Wear protective gloves.

2 / Cover hair with plastic cap and allow 20 minutes to take effect. Check progress of color removal during processing time.

3 / Rinse 3–5 minutes and wash at least three times with deep-cleansing shampoo. Apply 3 % KC Oxid and allow 5 minutes to take effect. If color darkens during finishing oxidation you can repeat steps 1–3.

4 / Rinse hair thoroughly and apply leave-in conditioner. Dry hair. If you want to color the hair, select one degree lighter than the result desired.

Hint! KC Color Remover works best for small color changes that do not require additional coloring.

SHADE NUMBERS World of colors are interesting and multidimensional. Colors are not easy to describe, since every-one has their own perception of the strength, darkness and nature of color. For example, to some mahogany red means pure red, while others think of copper red as pure red. For this reason numbering of KC Color has been made simple and easy, and it describes exactly what shades each color contains. Numbering takes into consideration how the base color of Scandinavian hair affects the end result.

Numbering is based on a color star: 1–6 with the lowest number coolest and the highest warmest. Exceptions are shades .7 (mix of cool and warm) and .8 (green).

Base colors (N and NN series) are neutral and bases for color levels. They are meant for use when more depth or greater coverage is desired, or when muting the tone of a color.

The first number indicates the color level. The first number after the dot indicates the primary tone and nature of the color and the second indicates the secondary tone, i.e. the tone reflected in the primary tone.

COVERING PIGMENT IN COLORThe more darkening pigments have been added to the color tube, the better the coverage and the gentler the appearance of tones.

26

CHOOSING THE HAIR COLORDiscuss the desired color with your customer. The easiest way to start is to ask whether the customer wants a darker or lighter color. Then you can recommend the intensity of the shade and degree of warmth (cool or warm tone).

When the desired result has been determined, continue with diagnosis of the hair:

1. Determine the natural color level of the hair and the amount of gray hair. 2. Determine the existing color level, tone and porosity. 3. Determine the desired color level and tones compared to the starting color.

When the desired end result has been determined, select the correct color and oxidizer. Taking into consideration the desired end result and the structure/condition of the hair, you can decide on a case-by-case basis whether to use KC Color Ultimate, KC Color Velvety or KC Color Luxima – see adjacent page.

LIGHTENING COLORWarmth of base hair color begins to affect the final result, making the final result warmer than the color used. If you want less warmth, include a color complementary to the base hair color or a cooler shade than the shade desired.

Base color accented:

LIGHTENING COLORS When the lightening capacity of normal color is not sufficient to achieve a bright enough result, select a tone from the lightening color series (KC Color Ultimate Blond 900 or 12 series or KC Color Velvety 900 series).

The 900 and 12 series are color-lightening series that lighten up to 4 degrees.

The 900 series includes color level 9, so the color’s end results are soft and naturally blond and pigmented to degree of lightness 9. This means the 900 series also has a balancing characteristic and is an excellent lightening color for example for an uneven or graying base color.

The 12 series contains only a generous amount of tone pigment, so the brightness of the end result is preserved. It provides bright, clean results, strongly toning down yellow.

The 12 and 900 series are excellent when mixed together.

SELECT KC COLOR VELVETY when • the customer’s own base color is 8 or lighter. • a soft end result is desired. • brightening and toning previously lightened hair.

SELECT KC COLOR ULTIMATE 900 LINE when• the customer’s own base color is deep, 6 or lighter.• a natural, clean blond is desired. • to maintain the tint in a color.

SELECT KC COLOR ULTIMATE 12 LINE when• the customer’s own base color is 6 or lighter. • maximum brightness is desired in the end result. • effective toning is desired.

If hair is darker than 6 degree or a strong cool shade is desired, use KC Bleach for lightening and tint lightened hair with KC Color Velvety or KC Color Luxima.

DARKENING COLORWhen coloring naturally light hair darker, hair does not have the necessary lightened base. In that case, color hair according to the guide for covering gray hair:

COVERING GRAY HAIRTo cover gray hair, use KC Color Ultimate 3 % oxidizer. KC Color Ultimate covers gray hair, providing strong and intensive coverage.

To cover gray, use KC Color Velvety 6 % oxidizer as a demi-permanent color. KC Color Velvety covers gray hair, providing soft, translucent coverage.

Intensity of coverage is affected by

1. Selected tone 2. Amount of color mass 3. Processing time

When you are using a color that has one tone after the dot, the color provides more coverage than a tone with two numbers after the dot. Cool shades also increase the intensity and coverage of the desired tone, while warm tones increase brightness and translucency. For light base colors (7–10) best results are achieved by mixing cool and warm shades without a base series (N series).

When covering gray, KC Color Ultimate provides an intensive, bold final result and KC Color Velvety provides soft, natural coverage of gray hair.

Covering gray hair with color levels 7–9 is one of the most challenging coloring tasks. The best and most natural result is achieved by mixing cool and warm colors without a base color, for example 8.2 and 8.3 or 7.35 and 7.1. The cool tone provides good coverage and the warm tone prevents the end result from becoming mat.

Approximate mixing table:

COLOR CORRECTION When changing existing color.

Color correction Changing a shade sometimes requires special techniques. When changing from a strong tone to a lighter one, from cool to warm or warm to cool without darkening the hair, first cleanse hair of color.

Removing color Mix KC Bleach and 1,5 % KC Oxid oxidizer 1:5 and apply the mass throughout hair at the wash basin. Leave in until the undesirable tone is removed. Wash, condition and dry hair and begin coloring.

DARKENING COLOR OF HAIR THAT HAS BEEN LIGHTENED If hair has been colored to a shade clearly lighter than desired, use KC Color Velvety or KC Color Luxima. Their structure and gentleness enable a simple and reliable end result.

KC Color VelvetyMix color and 1,5 % or 3 % KC Oxid oxidizer in a 1:2 ratio depending on the porosity of hair.

KC Color LuximaSelect the desired tone and mix shades to achieve the desired color level. When darkening lightened hair, the darker value in KC Color Luxima shade-numbering is more visible in the end result.

For example, the end result of 6–8.73 > is approx. 6.

Post-pigmentation of hair In extremely porous hair, not all pigment structures of oxidized color pigment are able to adhere to hair. In that case, use Color Mask for additional pigmenting, as Color Mask’s direct color pigments can adhere even to hair structures that no longer hold oxidized color pigment.

LIGHTENING COLOR OF HAIR THAT HAS BEEN COLORED DARKER If hair is darker than the desired color, remove unwanted color. Color does not lighten color.

Color removal Mix KC Bleach and 3 % KC Oxid oxidizer into a pliable mass. Apply starting with the darkest areas. Work into hair by hand to achieve the most even possible result. Monitor until the desired light base is achieved (max. 50 minutes). Wash, condition and dry hair and begin coloring.

KC Color Remover – when the desired end result is a lighter brown Mix components 1 and 2 in a 1:1 ratio and apply throughout hair. Cover with a cap and allow 20 minutes with heat to take effect. At the end of processing time, thoroughly rinse and wash hair at least three times with a deep-cleansing shampoo. Towel dry, spread 3 % oxidizer through hair and allow 1–3 minutes to take effect. If hair darkens too much during additional oxidizing, repeat the process. Rinse out the oxidizer, wash and if needed use Color Mask.

Hint! KC Color Remover works best when hair does not need to be colored after processing.

TIPS FOR USING COLORS

COLOR LIGHTENING KC Color Ultimate Blond lightening colors

KC Color Ultimate Blond colors contain two types of special lightening colors: in addition to its high lightening capacity and secondary tone, the 900 series also includes color level 9, producing a soft, even result. In addition to its high lightening capacity, the 12 series contains only a secondary tone that gives the end result brightness and tone. Both shades can be used alone or mixed together.

Colored or lightened hair no longer requires the lightening action of oxidized color, so semi-permanent color can penetrate hair as deeply even with a mild oxidizer as permanent color does in unprocessed hair.

Lightening colors are most effective when sufficient color is used. As a general rule, 1/3 more for example for coloring roots (normal color 40 ml color + 40 ml oxidizer, lightening color 40 ml color + 80 ml oxidizer).

BROWN TONES Mixing browns

When selecting brown shades you can use the mixing table for brown shades. All brown shades are in the middle of the table, from coolest to warmest. If you want to augment coolness/depth, mix a shade from the left side with the desired brown shade. If you want to add warm/brightness to the desired brown shade, mix a shade from the right side of the table with the color.

Note!

Cool shades increase the depth and coverage of browns, while warm shades increase brightness and clarity.

RED COLORS KC Color Ultimate and KC Color Velvety series include special R-series reds in addition to normal reds. They contain a particularly large amount of red pigment, producing a bold and intensive result. You can use R-series reds alone or mix them with normal colors.

MIXERSKC Color Mixer mixtones are designed to produce specific effects, or to augment or tone a shade when mixed with KC Color Ultimate or KC Color Velvety colors. KC Color Mixers contain tone 000, which is an ammonia-free clear tone that can be used to soften the desired shade toward pastel.

Managing color levels

When the starting color is for example colored to level 9 and you want to deepen it, you can adjust the color degree with the color you select and by using Clear tone.

4–6 shades > end result approx. 54–6 shades + Clear > end result approx. 66–8 shades > end result approx. 76–8 shades + Clear > end result approx. 87–9 shades > end result approx. 87–9 shades + Clear > end result approx. 9

Note! When darkening colored hair, remember that possible natural root growth deepens more softly than colored hair.

PRISMPRISM color-pigment concentrate is an excellent tool when the customer’s hair is so dark that shades and changes can no longer be achieved using color. When thinking about the end result, consider how the hair may possibly be lightened by the selected oxidizer and what kind of lightened base it will create. The desired shade is created for the lightened base by mixing PRISM shades together. For example, if hair lightens to a level of approx. 8 and the desired shade is a warm light brown, mix PRISM colors Brown and Gold Copper so the mass appears light brown. This mixture together with the lightened base produces the desired result.

Mixing and selection of color

First mix the lightening agent and oxidizer. Then add PRISM color-pigment concentrate to the mass until the desired color is achieved. If the mass seems too runny, you can thicken it with KC Color Thickener.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

1 / Wash hair with neutral shampoo before permanent-wave processing with KC Perm Multiwave Sensitive. If necessary you can even out different porosity in hair using for example Four Reasons Moisture Mist or No nothing Very Sensitive Mois-ture Mist.

2 / Roll hair around permanent-wave rollers of a suitable size and protect hairlines with strips of cotton wool. Select a KC Perm Multiwave Sensitive agent of the suitable strength and wet each roller at least twice, starting from the nape of the neck.

3 / Make sure the rollers are sufficiently wet. Cover the rollers with a cap or plas-tic wrap, do not use heat. The processing time for all strengths is 10 minutes – follow the processing time carefully.

4 / After the processing time, rinse hair thoroughly with warm water. Rinsing time depends on length of hair. Rinse short hair for 5–10 minutes and long hair for 10–15 minutes.

5 / Towel dry permanent-wave rollers thoroughly by patting each roller with the towel. Neutralize the permanent-wave: mix KC Perm Multiwave Sensitive Neutralizer with water in an applicator bottle, 75 ml + 75 ml, and apply 2/3 of the liquid to rollers evenly with a sponge. Allow at least 5 minutes to take effect. Gently open rollers without stretching the hair and apply the rest of the neutralizer to the ends by squeezing, and allow at least 3 minutes to take effect. After processing time, rinse hair thoroughly.

6 / Apply at least 30 ml KC Perm Multiwave Sensitive Keratin Hardener evenly to towel-dried hair. Allow at least 3 minutes to take effect, shorter processing time for porous hair. Rinse hair thoroughly.

7 / If hair requires further treatment after processing, use a conditioner suitable for the hair type.

Note!

Always use the Keratin Hardener included as part of KC Perm Multiwave Sensitive after processing. It neutralizes possible chemical residues in hair and makes the permanent-wave last longer.

> If you color hair after permanent-wave processing, rinse hair very thoroughly after using KC Perm Multiwave Sensitive Keratin Hardener.

> Use only KC Perm Multiwave Sensitive Neutralizer to neutralize a KC Perm Multiwave Sensitive permanent.

> Follow the instructions and do not exceed the KC Perm Multiwave Sensitive processing time.

Cosmetic products used in hair salons (shampoos, conditioners, hair colors, permanent-wave agents, styl-ing products etc.) must always be used according to the instructions, making direct health-risks small.

Follow these instructions at the salon: • Always read instructions for use carefully and follow

them closely.

• Always use disposable gloves when handling color or permanent-wave agents or cleansers.

• Never mix products together unless directed to in the instructions.

• Store products in a dry location at or slightly below room temperature.

Important to remember when coloring hair

Color oxidizer or direct color can cause an allergic reaction that can sometimes be serious. To avoid allergic reactions it is important to talk with your customer before coloring and carefully follow instructions for use.

To minimize the risk or allergic reaction, ask your customer these questions before coloring:

• Have you previously had an allergic reaction to hair color? • Is your scalp sensitive, irritated or damaged?• Have you at some point had a black henna tattoo?

If a customer answers yes to one or more of the question, coloring hair is not recommended. The customer must consult a doctor to determine whether hair can be safely colored.

Good advices for hair coloring • Read warnings carefully and always follow instructions

for use. • Do an allergy test 48 hours before coloring hair. • Remember to use disposable gloves both when coloring

and rinsing hair. • Hair color is not intended for those under 16 years old. • Keep color from setting into scalp or skin, which reduces

the risk or skill irritation.
