Who We Are
Best Friends of Pets strives to reduce pet overpopulation and keep pets in their homes. Best Friends was formed under a similar name in 1994 as a volunteer support group at Oklahoma City Animal Welfare. In 2006, Best Friends ended its direct relationship with OKCAW to focus on helping low-income pet parents afford to have their pets spayed or neutered.
Our Programs
SPAY NEUTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Cost is one of the primary reasons cats and dogs are not spayed or neutered. Poverty rates and euthanasia rates in animal shelters are closely related. Best Friends of Pets offers affordable spaying and neutering for low-income pet parents and works with veterinary clinics throughout central Oklahoma to reduce transportation issues for many pet parents.
PET ID TAGS & MICROCHIPS
1 in 3 pets will go missing. Lost pets are more likely to make it back home when they are wearing a visible identification tag with an owner's current information. Microchips provide an ID number when scanned so the owner can be contacted.
RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP
Information on pet care and pet health issues help pet parents resolve issues that may cause them to surrender their pets.
I'm so glad for your help. I couldn't afford the money to spay my cat. She's my only child. - Valerie
My husband didn't like our cat's 'horrible' sounds and male cats around the house when she was in heat. He wanted to give her away. My kids and I were in tears. I'm so excited that we're going to be able to keep her after all because of your program. - Amy
I know I'll get home because I have a new tag with my 'mom's' phone number on it! - Jill
Providing spay/neuter vouchers to low- income households is truly a wonderful thing for owners, pets, communities acrosss Oklahoma. I'm thrilled that we can finally afford to get both pets neutered. We recently moved to Oklahoma and with all the expenses, vouchers are a tremendous help during a time of need. Being able to neuter our pets is an amazing thing. Our pets will live healthier lives. - Khorrie
