In Memory of
Dr. Douglas H. Manley November 12, 1971 - July 12, 2014
Director of Music & Organist 2007 - 2014
At Keith Church, we are all grieving the loss of Dr. Doug Manley – our friend, colleague, mentor, organist and Director of Music. Many of us came to know Doug in 2006, when he first joined our services at Keith as the organist; and in 2007, we were all graced by his talents as he assumed the position of Director of Music. A native of Cleveland, Tenn., he came to Athens in 2007, to serve as Associate Professor of Music and Director of Keyboard Studies at Tennessee Wesleyan College. Additionally, he served at St. Therese’s Catholic Church in Cleveland as Saturday and Holy Day organist. He maintained an active K-12 studio where he touched the lives of young musicians through his instruction of both piano and organ.
Throughout his career he achieved many notable accomplishments and received numerous awards and recognition for his talents. He was an active member and leader of professional and community organizations, strongly supporting community and the local arts. Doug was also a published author on the subject of music and church music. Please continue to remember in prayer, his mother, Margaret Brooks Manley; sister, Carla Manley Brown and brother-in-law, J. Mack Brown; his much beloved niece, Bethany Leigh Brown; and his many students, colleagues and friends.
A scholarship fund is being set up in memory of Dr. Douglas H. Manley. This scholarship will be used to help support students who wish to continue in their musical studies. Donations may be made through the church.

MISSION TRIP RECAP from Summer 2014 …
Earlier this summer, we were incredibly blessed to take five of our High School
Youth and two adults to Slidell, LA for a week-long mission trip with other youth
from Holston Conference. There we assisted in continuing home-repair and
community service efforts related to Hurricane Katrina destruction. Not only did
we learn valuable skills, but we got to see firsthand how the communities
surrounding New Orleans are still in great need and are only part-way through
a long process of recovery. We were given a perspective on how such tragedies
impact on many different levels, and that a community can greatly benefit just
from knowing the rest of the world hasn’t forgotten about them. Most of all we
learned from the homeowners we served that God is our Great Provider, and we
should count so many things a blessing that we normally take for granted.

Quilting for a Cause The Banner Committee is making a Crazy Quilt with their fabric scraps. They are asking women of the church to help make squares. The quilt will be auctioned off on November 12, and the proceeds will go to help reduce the building debt.
