MIDWEST PUBLIC RISK 2015

You’re Invited! The Fall Conference with MPR is more than an opportunity to escape the office for a weekend. This year we hope to encourage you to connect directly with MPR staff, partners and fellow members in a unique way through a variety of special event and sessions.

This year’s conference, ENGAGE: Keeping your workforce healthy, happy and safe, will give you the tools and help you generate new ideas while on your way to becoming a better leader – regardless of what position you hold in the office.

We have invited Mary Kelly, PhD, a nationally recognized leadership and communications speaker to join us Friday morning as she talks about her experience as a commander in the U.S. Navy and trainer at the Naval Academy. Her unique take on leadership blended with humor will inspire you to look at your own leadership style and discover new ways to engage your staff.

This year’s conference will also offer a unique set of breakout sessions where we will cover topics that are familiar to many human resources officers, but will be presented with a unique twist. Lynne Bratcher, a plaintiff’s attorney from Kansas City, will offer her perspective on what cities and other public entities do to make things go from bad to worse when it comes to employment lawsuits.

We have also invited attorney Johnny Wang from St. Louis to introduce our members to several best practices when it comes to conducting internal HR investigations in a small city. A tall order when your staff is few and resources are thin.

MPR invites you to also join us Thursday night following dinner for a unique event that will introduce you to our many partners that help us deliver the world class customer service our members expect. This fun, informal event, Partner Speed Dating, is your opportunity to have fun, win prizes and learn a little bit more about how MPR operates.

This is just a small sample of what we have on tap in Branson, Missouri, this fall. We invite you to join us and look forward to seeing your there.

Terry Norwood, CEO/President

KEYNOTE SESSIONKEYNOTE SPEAKER: MARY KELLY, PhDFriday, Sept. 11 | 8:30AM

Mary Kelly, PhD is a nationally recognized and renowned economist and leadership expert specializing in improving business efficiency and maximizing available resources.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Mary has trained over 40,000 military and civilian personnel in multi-cultural environments around the world. She served 21 years as a commissioned officer in the Navy, and retired as a commander.

A university business and economics professor, Mary combines theory and practicality. With extensive experience in human resources, finance, insurance, organizational leadership, strategic planning, and project development, she focuses on building successful strategies for business leaders at all levels of an organization.

Mary’s passion is helping people excel in business. An energetic, engaging and perceptive leadership coach and speaker, Mary delivers humorous, inspiring, and insightful keynote speeches, offering tools and insights that increase productivity, morale, and profits.

As a consultant, creative and insightful problem-solving abilities enable her to transform corporate cultures and structures.

Mary is the author of several books, including:– Master Your World: 10 Dog-Inspired Lessons to Increase Productivity, Profits and Communication– 15 Ways to Grow your Business in Every Economy– Money Smart: How not to buy cat food when you don’t have a cat– Stop the Barking at Work: Effective Communications to be Clear, Profitable and Happy– 360 Degrees of Leadership: Steering Around the Icebergs– In Case of Emergency, Break Glass!

Mary started writing orders at trade shows with her family’s sales business at age ten, and she has been employed (and paying taxes) since she was twelve. A frustrated comedian, Mary would like to be as funny as her friends claim she is.

Mary coaches the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Equestrian Team, and she and her therapy dogs make routine visits to local hospitals and retirement homes.

Keynote Presentation:Master Your World: 10 Executive Leadership Strategies to Improve Productivity & CommunicationLack of communication is a common employee frustration. Communication is how we get things accomplished, and miscommunication is the number one way that we mess things up.

• Are your employees telling you what is really going on?• Would your employees and peers tell their friends that you are a great boss and a great communciator?• Are you and your organization wasting time and resources with poor communication?• Can you afford to waste time with misunderstanding?

This energetic seminar will increase communication effectiveness and morale.
