Special stuff: Use ‘y cuarto’ for quarter after an hour

Use ‘y media’ for half past an hour Use ‘menos cuarto’ for quarter TIL an hour, but be sure to go to the NEXT hour.

To say it’s 3:15, write ‘Son las tres y cuarto’

To say it’s 3:30, write ‘Son las tres y media’

To say it’s 3:45, write ‘Son las CUATRO menos cuarto’. *Note I moved up to the NEXT hour.

To say it’s 4:20 in the morning, write ‘Son las cuatro y veinte de la mañana’ (4 and 20)

To say it’s 5:40 in the afternoon, write ‘Son las seis menos veinte de la tarde (6 minus 20)’ OR you can write ‘Son las cinco y cuarenta (5 and 40).

To say it’s 10:45 at night, write ‘Son las once menos cuarto de la noche’ (11 minus 15) OR ‘Son las diez y cuarenta y cinco de la noche’ (10 and 45).
