    Brighon, Hove & Diric

Nancy led the successful campaign toprevent the closure of Brighton FireStation and campaigned for the SouthDowns to be granted National Park Status

by the last Labour Government. She has spent most of her working

life campaigning in the voluntary sectoron issues such as affordable childcare, health inequalities, low pay and childpoverty. She led the campaign that

delivered Sure Start centres for everycommunity and a campaign to tackleextortionate energy prices for the leastwell off.

Nancy knows just how tough lifecan be for Brighton Kemptown andPeacehaven residents.

She says: When I was 18 myparents could not afford to send meto university so I gained a degree

level qualification by studying in theevenings after my day job for the firebrigade. At the time I was fortunate towork for an employer that was willing to

help with the cost of studying but mostpeople are not in this position. Whatyou achieve in life should not dependon your postcode or your parents bankbalance. That is something I am verypassionate about.

I have met people whose pay or hours are being cutwhilst their bills are rising. At a time when many o us

are struggling to get by, this Government sees ft togrant a tax cut to millionaires.

Labour will increase training and job opportunities;we will invest in the uture and reduce the defcit bygrowing our economy in a sustainable way.
