Every great architect is - necessarily - a great poet. He must be a great original interpreter of his time, his day, his age.

Pocket Park design
Students were required to complete a site analysis of an open lot located in Washington DC. After diagramming tartans in the loca-tion’s front elevation, we were assigned this area to design a garden park with an adjacent cafe. While the cafe was considered to be more conceptual, the park was to be designed as a fully functional, communal and transitional space. Plans and sections were drawn and a mod-el was constructed all at 1:16 scale.

Beer-making is a unique expression of the culture, people, and nature that give it origin. A place that produces and sells (on-site) a communal beverage, such as beer, should welcome and enliven those who inhabit the area. The plan of the brewery splits open to divide the public production and viewing area from the private storage and employee areas. These two buildings are separate but become connected through a glass box “hinge”. Visitors and em-plployees in both spaces can view each other through glass walls while trees create semi-privacy. The trees woven into the slit be-tween the spaces inserts the nature and the community into the brewery itself. During the day, the front of the site is an attractive open frontal space creating an inviting public sitting area for pa-trons. The brewery bustles with people taking tours of the space and tasting offered beers. At night, DC Brau is a beacon for the neighborhood lighting up the surrounding area and enticing pe-destrians. Incorporating the act of making and transforming beer into partaking and celebrating in its result through the division of public and private spaces is the main concept illustrated in this design.

Participant in the design build exploration program that provides strudents the opportunity to research, design and construct an architec-tural form specific to a culture.
Spring 2014: 1 semester design class involving conceptual models, sketches, corresponding poetry and official technical drawings.
June 20- July 7 2014: Construction of “The Crossing” at Downpat-rick Head, County Mayo, Ireland. In this 3 week build, I gained valuable experience bringing a conceptual design to site construction.
Project Summary: This Spirit of Place installment entitled “The Cross-ing” centers around a blow-hole at Downpatrick Head called “Pollna Se-antainne”. This site is now North Mayo’s signature discovery point along the “Wild Atlantic Way”, Ireland’s premiere coastal route from Derry to Cork. Under architect Travis Price, students from Catholic University spent the semester designing the structure and proceeded to physically build it in the summer of 2014. This protective fence around the blow-hole and the meaningful shelter both preserve history and celebrate the untamed beauty of Ireland’s Atlantic coast.

13 MIT Chapel Constructions 1 Case Study: In teams of 4, students were required to analyze the materials, building methods and structure of an assigned space. We were assigned the MIT Chapel that we 3D printed at 1:8 scale in both shell model and and section model. We also built a piece of the interi-or wall exposing the wall cavity at 1:1 scale with various materials to represent those that are used in the actual building.

15 Philadelphia Athenaeum design:
Students were assigned the existing site of the Athenaeum of Philadelphia to dreate a new Athenaeum for the year 2050. By creating a prem-ise for the future, students were able to design a suitable building for the required needs. These designs were also submitted to the architectural de-sign competition run by the Athenaeum of Phila-delphia.

I assisted with on-site fieldwork including measuring and sketching. I also transferred sketches to AutoCad, collaborat-ed with clients and helped the firm create and print their blueprints. I gained valuable experience assisting with proj-ect management and working in a team environment.
