WINTER BUGS 2017- PLEASE HELP BE A GERM STOPPER To ensure the wellbeing of all members of the community (to include those who may suffer significantly from low immunity
to bacterial and viral infections) we remind everyone of the importance of attending school only when fit and well. Please
ensure that the children wear a clearly named school windcheater to school each day and have a warm jacket in their bag, if
required. Your ongoing support and assistance in managing the nasty winter bugs would be greatly appreciated.
We request that you contact the school immediately if your child is suffering with an infection.
BOOK WEEK CELEBRATION - AUGUST 24th Our Book Week Celebration is coming up on Thursday 24th August. Students are encouraged to dress up as a book

in multi-age rotations led by the Junior School Council and Library Captains. We kindly ask that students bring a gold coin

YEAR 4 WRITING - MY LIFE AS A CONVICT – Jai Westerman 4C
Dear Mother and Father,
As you know I was convicted for stealing a piece of bread worth 2 shillings. I’m really sorry for what I’ve done. I really
wanna’ come back to England. I have been sentenced to New Holland for 7 years. I heard that New Holland would be
great. They have weird new plants and Aboriginals I don’t know why but they call us ghosts.
The Voyage was terrible. It had tiny cells with 30 people in each one. The food was disgraceful. They gave us gruel that’s
dirty and our beverage was dirty water. The toilets were unquestionable we had to wipe our bottoms with a rope. Lots of
people got seasick and diarrhea from the food. The Voyage smelt like salt water, gruel and diarrhea. Mother and Father you
wouldn’t believe what the ship looked like it had rats, huge holes, cells flooded because of the big holes, it was rotty and
the convicts looked dirty. The gruel and water tasted dirty, horrendous and disgusting. It sounded if I could hear the crew
talking about me because I’m the youngest convict on the ship.
My life in New Holland is horrible. But I work for the Streak family. They are really nice but I still have to do hard work.
The work I do is farming. I milk the cows and I dig the soil to make crops. I work from dawn to dusk in very hot
conditions. I live in a big, rich town called Woot Woot. Woot Woot is where the rich people live. For my dinner if I’m
good I get maize, beef and bread. But if I’m naughty I get nothing. It makes me very sick if I don’t get dinner. I sleep in a
tin shed. My bed is a pile of hay. At night it gets really cold and rain hits the shed really hard. It’s hard to sleep when I’m
cold. The Aboriginals still call us ghosts. There are these weird animals. My favourite animal is the gangaroo. A gangaroo
is a two legged animal that hops really weirdly and funny. I am aiming to get a ticket of leave. I’m very sad. I want to see
you both face to face again. I think I will get the ticket soon because I have been good for six months.
I miss you both so very much but the photo of you two helps me.
Bye mother and father,
From your beloved son Jai.

5/6 HOOP TIME REPORT On Wednesday 26th of July the grades 5 and 6 went to Knox Basketball Stadium to play 4-5 games with several different
schools. Our school came 1st in both the boys and girls teams. Everyone played wonderfully and cooperated well. Our team (Rookies Pumas) drew our first and second game with the point 8-8. In our third game, we lost with the scores 2-
8. Our fourth game was a win with the scores of 10-6! Our final game was a very tough game but we lost 2-10.
We watched other teams play and they all played amazing while showing great sportsmanship! Everyone had a great time
and enjoyed watching each other play! A big thanks to the teachers for scoring us, the parents for coming and supporting us
and to Mr Parker for organising the day and doing his best at his first year at our school!
By Ji-Min and Fogut 6G
On the 26th of July, the 5/6 All Star 1 teams played 5 games of basketball at Knox Basketball Stadium. Both boys and girls
teams were undefeated for the whole day and moved onto the next round. Overall, it was a great day and everyone tried
their best. We would like to thank Knox Basketball for the venue, Mr Parker for organising the day and the parents and
teachers for supporting us and coaching us.
By Lexi, Daniel and Jordan
On the 26th July at Knox Basketball Stadium, year 5/6s played 6 games of basketball. We were Future Stars Kangaroos.
Unfortunately we lost all our games. The first 2 games were close, losing by 1 goal each. The 3rd game was close but we
lost by 2 goals. The other Kent Park teams did well and a couple of them won the grand final.

YEAR 5/6 AUSSIE RULES FOOTBALL TEAM
On Tuesday the 1st of August some of our 5/6 girls participated in the Australian Rules football finals for the Eastern
Metropolitan Region. Students played in a round robin tournament and throughout the day they played 5 games. The girls
came second in their pool and went on to play a final consolation game which they won. The girls had the opportunity to
have a question and answer session with two players from Collingwood Football Club Women’s team. It was a beautiful
sunny day for the event and the girls had a fantastic day. They should be all very proud of themselves for the way they
represented Kent Park on the day.
