Kentucky Continuum of Care 2008 Homeless Point-in-Time
Demographic Fact Sheet
Description Definition Total Surveys Received – includes precariously housed duplicates, etc.
This number reflects all surveys received for a specific area. Not all surveys translate directly to homeless persons as defined by HUD. Some may be at risk of homelessness but not yet homeless. Some may not meet any criteria to be counted as homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Some surveys may duplicate other surveys and are therefore eliminated from the count.
GENDER • Women • Men • Transgender
RACE • African-American • American Indian/Alaskan Native • Asian • Caucasian/White • Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific
Islander • Multi-racial • Other Race
Hispanic/Latino
This number reflects the gender and race category chosen by the person who completed the survey. These persons are head of household for those surveys that qualified as “homeless” under HUD’s definition. Some persons choose not to answer this question. This number may not equal the total homeless households if a survey respondent chooses not to answer this question. This number does not include persons who are precariously housed or at risk of becoming homeless. The homeless survey does not capture gender, age and race of all household members – only the head of household.
Veterans TRANSIENT HOMELESS – became homeless elsewhere
• Became homeless in Lexington • Became homeless in Louisville • Became homeless elsewhere in
Kentucky Chronically Homeless (includes emergency sheltered and unsheltered) Severely Mentally Ill Chronic Substance Abuse Persons with HIV/AIDS Persons reporting a disability Domestic Violence Victim Unaccompanied Youth
This category includes only the head of “homeless” households. Not all households answer these questions or provide an affirmative answer. These categories may not apply to all homeless heads of household.
HOUSING CATEGORY
• Emergency Shelter • Transitional Housing • Unsheltered Homeless (Outdoors) • Unsheltered Homeless Other • TOTAL HOMELESS
This category includes all members of households that meet HUD’s definition of “homeless.” Therefore, this number will be higher than the numbers appearing above pertaining to race, gender, etc.
