Our thanks to the BTH committee for allowing us to collect data on offshore fishing trips again and to the Gladstone Sport fishing Club for allowing Cap Reef to share their tent. The BTH weekend weather was not conducive to good fishing with moderate winds on Friday and Sat- urday but with better conditions on Sunday. Saturday was also very wet with 150mm of rain at Bray Park (BTH headquarters). From a CapReef data perspective it was very suc- cessful with 141 trip details obtained at Bray Park out of a total of about 150 offshore trips. A further approximate 50 trips were collected at the Gladstone VMR boat ramp. Zoning maps, best practices in releasing fish handouts and promotional material on CapReef were in steady demand over the three days. It was a full three days and thanks to Wendi Parsons, Sally Wood and Wendy Wagon for their efforts on the boat ramps surveys, especially during the rain on Saturday. John Platten also helped out in between fishing (John scored a 20.7kg Barramundi from Lake Awoonga to take out that section of the competi- tion). Thanks to Shirley Sawynok who looked after the CapReef stall and to Dave Lowe for helping out when we ran out of zoning maps. The BRUV camera was placed in the live fish tank for the three days and plugged into a TV set so that fish in the tank could be viewed live on TV. This was a big hit, especially with the kids. Data collected at the Hookup has meant we have passed our target of 1,000 trips for the year with around 1,200 trips and a few weeks to go.Well Done every body The Fishing Clubs report is finally being printed and should be available in the next few weeks. We have updated the Infofish website and upgraded the CapReef section. The Fishing Clubs report can now be downloaded from the website www.info-fish.net. CAP REEF WEEKLY REPORTThere was no briefi ng last week as we were at the

Boyne Tannum Hookup from 9-11 June. Our thanks

to the BTH committee for allowing us to collect data

on offshore fi shing trips again and to the Gladstone

Sport fi shing Club for allowing Cap Reef to share

their tent.

The BTH weekend weather was not conducive to

good fi shing with moderate winds on Friday and Sat-

urday but with better conditions on Sunday. Saturday

was also very wet with 150mm of rain at Bray Park

(BTH headquarters).

From a CapReef data perspective it was very suc-

cessful with 141 trip details obtained at Bray Park

out of a total of about 150 offshore trips. A further

approximate 50 trips were collected at the Gladstone

VMR boat ramp. Zoning maps, best practices in

releasing fi sh handouts and promotional material on

CapReef were in steady demand over the three days.

It was a full three days and thanks to Wendi Parsons,

Sally Wood and Wendy Wagon for their efforts on

the boat ramps surveys, especially during the rain

on Saturday. John Platten also helped out in between

fi shing (John scored a 20.7kg Barramundi from Lake

Awoonga to take out that section of the competi-

tion). Thanks to Shirley Sawynok who looked after

the CapReef stall and to Dave Lowe for helping out

when we ran out of zoning maps.

The BRUV camera was placed in the live fi sh tank

for the three days and plugged into a TV set so that

fi sh in the tank could be viewed live on TV. This was

a big hit, especially with the kids.

Data collected at the Hookup has meant we have

passed our target of 1,000 trips for the year with

around 1,200 trips and a few weeks to go.Well Done

every body

The Fishing Clubs report is fi nally being printed

and should be available in the next few weeks. We

have updated the Infofi sh website and upgraded the

CapReef section. The Fishing Clubs report can now

be downloaded from the website www.info-fi sh.net.

Apex Deep Sea Fishing Club has supplied data from

their most recent trip on 6th May.

Outing 12 – 10th and 11th

June 2006

It was the annual Scout’s camp weekend, so

on cue the wind blew and the rain teamed.

Ten hardy souls camped over the weekend

and enjoyed some laughs around the camp

fi re. A few more fi shed on the Sunday but

everyone was confi ned to Corio Bay and

Fishing Creek by the weather. The weigh-in

at the ramp in Fishing Creek got started a bit

early so my apologies to Warren who arrived

at the right time to fi nd nearly everyone

gone.

Dean and Ron were in fi ne form paying each

other out at the BBQ. Dean got the Penguin

a few time before Ron retaliated with the

following, “Dean was having some trouble

landing a fi sh when I told him to put on some

more drag but all he did was get another

frock”.

Ron carried his fi ne form over to the fi shing

by scoring a career high of 908 points;

including 2 Masters fi sh on 1kg, a 3.6 kg

queenfi sh and a 1.3 kg fl athead. This blew

the adult opposition away. Brad scored some

quick fi sh on Sunday morning to tally 296

points and Dean Anderson was next with 274

including a Masters queenfi sh of his own.

The junior competition was again close.

Daniel Rooks showed his class by weighing

5 fi sh for 592 points, including 2 very nice

queenfi sh. Lachlan Cook was close behind

with 475 points. His 2.8 kg queenfi sh on

1kg was a very good effort. The slack adults

would also like to thank Daniel for his live

bait gathering expertise.

The Austen family were out on Sunday and

Debbie landed a Masters queenfi sh on 1kg

and Chloe also weighed a nice queenfi sh on

4kg.

For all those concerned with Anthony

Walsh’s health, I can report a miraculous

recovery. It seems that once everyone lugged

his gear down the beach and loaded his boat

he started feeling a bit better and he fully

recovered once Sacha had cleaned up the

boat after they got home. The diagnosis was

either food poisoning or a dummy spit at Ron

out fi shing him.

The ANSA top 10 competition for the juniors

has come right down to the wire. Daniel who

is the reigning champion has 1666.6 points,

but, he holds the narrowest of leads over

Lachlan with 1636.7 points. With 2 weeks of

school holidays coming up before the books

close at the end of June either could win.

There are no other progressive scores in this

report, just to keep a bit of mystery for the

Presentation Night which is on Saturday 15th

July.

Ron With a nice Masters Queenfi sh

Can anyone tell which one is the queeny?

ApologyPlease accept my apology for missing the last couple

off newsletters, recent changes in my employment

has meant that I am home less often and when I am

home I just want to go fi shing. Hopefully some one

in the club would like to take on the publicity offi cer

role next year.
