Interesting Facts
• A majority of players in the National Volleyball team (both Senior and Junior) are from Kerala
• Jimmy George, the volleyball legend hails from Kerala
- He was considered among the Top 10 players globally in his prime
- He was one of the youngest Indians to receive the Arjuna award at the age of 21
- Currently there are also Jimmy George tournaments held in Italy to commensurate this sports star.
• Internationally, India is receiving multiple laurels in the Men’s Category. India currently ranks World No.5* in Volleyball (Junior Men’s Category) and recently beat USA in the World Junior Volleyball Championship to enter the Semi Finals against Brazil

Although cricket is the only sport which has been successful at a national level in India, other sports follow a more regional trend
Volleyball and football are extremely popular in Kerala. It is in the blood of Keralaites and it is a rampant game along the sandy beaches of this coastal state. Even local tournaments attract 1000’s of spectators.

What is the Kerala Volleyball League?
The Kerala Volleyball League (KVL) is a world class volleyball league that will be organized every year in the state of Kerala. It is a first such initiative in India in the world of volleyball. It is organized by SportzConsult, a premier sports management firm in association with Kerala Sports Volleyball Association
Who will participate?
The KVL will attract the finest talent available in IndiaAll top level professional Indian players who play internationally will participateThere will be 6 franchises across 6 cities in Kerala
When will it be held?
The first edition of KVL will be held from Feb 20 – 28, 2010 in the city of KozhikodeThe 9 day tournament will be telecast live every evening between 6 – 9 PM
Who is the audience?
KVL games will attract an average ground audience of more than 7000It will be viewed on television across Kerala and the by the large Malayalam population in the Gulf and in USA

Structure
• A bidding process will finalize the 6 franchises out of the 10 districts
• 100 Kerala and Indian Players will be auctioned on a designated date
• Players will be auctioned to the Franchises on a designated date
• League format – All teams to play each other once in a round-robin fashion
• Top 2 teams in the league standings to play the FINAL
• Total matches: 16
• 2 matches per day ( Except the first and the last day which will have opening and closing ceremonies)
• Total days of the tournament: 9
