We hope she enjoyed her first day at school. Our thoughts and prayers are with the O’Styke family as they come to terms with the passing of Janine’s Grandmother and the Nahu family as they come to terms with the passing of Shayne’s brother in law. From the Board of Trustees At the Board meeting last week the Board accepted the resignation of Kerry Baughen. Mrs Baughen has decided to explore new challenges and opportunities in her career and feels the time is right to do this. We would like to thank Kerry for the wonderful contributions she has made to our school over the years and we wish her well for next year and beyond. Board of Trustee Mid-term Elections are planned for December 1 st this year. We have 2 parent representative places that are coming up these elections. The Board has appointed a returning officer and information will be sent out to parents in the near future about this. This year the Ministry of Education and School Trustees Association are using NZ Post’s system Votext to manage information and vote counting in an effort to improve the Board election processes. Information about Votext can be found by clicking on this link http://www.trustee-election.co.nz/board- resources/votext-for-schools On behalf of the Board of Trustees, teachers and children I would like to say a huge thank you to Kim Howard her team and the army of volunteers who helped out organising and also on the day of the Spring Fair. Everyone had a fantastic day on Sunday, the weather played its part and for our school this was a wonderful opportunity for us to include the wider community in one of our major school events. The total for the Spring Fair is $21,600. This is an outstanding result. Our school and students are lucky to have such generous people who give their time, talents and money to support their learning. Sports photos for Netball, Miniball and Basketball teams will be taking place this Friday. Please make sure the children who still hold their uniforms bring these for photos and those who have handed them in already will need to collect these from the office for their photo. Unfortunately during the Spring Fair yesterday some people were parking on Nicholson Road, up along the back of the school. One of our neighbours cars was damaged by a white car hitting it sometime during the day. If you hit a car please either leave a note on the car or contact me and I can provide you with the person’s details so you can contact them. We also ask that parents do not use this road for general drop off/pick up. The school only uses this road in emergencies. Remember hockey lessons for the children begin this Wednesday 1

st (Rooms 2, 3 & 4) and Thursday 2

nd (Rooms 5-

12) November. The children are to wear sports uniforms (Mufti for Rooms 2-4) and we recommend that children bring a mouth guard with them to protect their teeth from any accidental damage. This week our EPIC Award “EPIC Eddie” went to the students in Room 12. They have been working hard, supporting each other and being extra helpful recently. It has been great to see so many students volunteering to help out with all sorts of jobs within the class and around the school. For example, everyone in the class has helped out with the school fair in at least one way, and many have taken on multiple responsibilities. In addition to these extra jobs, they have also managed to keep focused on their learning and they are great at helping each other out if anyone needs a hand. Room 12 are EPIC! 2018 Term Dates

MATHS ACTIVITIES

Room 5 learnt many facts about 3 D shapes through hands on Maths activities. They worked in small groups and persevered to make a variety of shapes which displayed edges, faces and vertices. A lot of learning, Mathematical language and lots of fun.

NEW PLAYGROUND REVIEWS – ROOM 2

I like the playground because it has a slide. A slippery slide and a climbing spider. By Charlotte McGregor I like the playground because I like the monkey bars. They are really zoomy, fast and floaty. By Alexander Bath I like the heavy playground because I like the wobbly things. By Dominic Gardner I like the playground because of the monkey bars. By Grace Coulter I like the playground because I like the slippery slide. By Jacob Flutey

WEEKLY REFLECTION

"People who’ve had any genuine spiritual experience always know that they don’t know.

They are utterly humbled before mystery. They are in awe before the abyss of it all, in

wonder at eternity and depth, and a Love, which is incomprehensible to the mind."

Richard Rohr OFM - Franciscan priest, writer and inspirational speaker
