Make sure you check your Cattleya alliance orchids for scale and the Vandanaceous orchids for thrips, as the dry, cooler weather seems to bring them out. Our next meeting has Segundo and Yolanda from Quest orchids doing a presentation on hybridizing of Cattleyas and other species. We will all get to hand fertilize an orchid. They always have beautiful orchids, so please come and enjoy their presence and pick up an orchid or 2 to enjoy after they have gone. The Christmas party was a great success, and we hope to do it there at the new yacht club in the future, as we all enjoyed the meal and the service was great. We have our orchid fair coming up at the end of February so we need to get our orchids looking fabulous for the displays. February’s meeting will be how to prepare orchids for display and getting the paperwork right for proper entry. This year we do not have an AOS accredited show so it will be good practice for next year’s Big Show. I hope everyone is having good luck with their Paphiopedilum that they received back in October. I do not have any in spike as of yet but the plants seem to be growing fine. Anyone out there have one spiking yet? I am looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting. Happy orchid growing. Our Holiday Brunch was a big success. Everyone seemed to like the new venue at Key West Harbor. The turnout was good, and a lot of

phals were distributed. Thanks to Julia Woods, who stepped in with her phone when my camera battery died.
