If you’re like most families, springtime keeps you as busy as a bee! Between spring sports, school parties, field trips, & recitals,

it’s difficult to keep up with it all. With a little organization, however, you can keep your family on track.

One necessity for a busy family is a family calendar. The calendar should be kept in a central location, such as the kitchen, and everyone in the family should be encouraged to read it! Make sure you include pertinent information for each activity on the calendar (times, places, etc.). A great idea is to color-code the calendar where each family member has their own color. This way, you can know at a glance what each family member has going on each day.

Along with the calendar, it is a good idea to have a bulletin board to store all of your party invitations, permission slips, sports schedules, etc. Once you receive an invitation, etc., IMMEDIATELY write the basic information on the calendar, but hold onto the original in case you need more details as the event draws closer. If you don’t write it down immediately, the invitation may get lost in other paperwork, only to be found when it’s too late! Also, if permission slips or other papers come home from school, go ahead & fill them out RIGHT THEN & put them back in your child’s backpack. Once it’s done, you don’t have to think about it again!

If your kids are involved in spring sports, you may be spending a lot of time hunting down cleats, uniforms & baseball mitts! Try having a designated spot for all sports equipment. You can purchase a rack made specifically for holding sporting equipment or just use any container you have already. Always check periodically to make sure the kids are putting their equipment where it belongs so that you’re not frantically searching on game day! I have a friend who washes sports uniforms & keeps them on a shelf in the laundry until game day. She always knows where the kids’ uniforms are & doesn’t have to go searching at the last minute!

With all of your organizing and scheduling, remember to schedule in some family time. After looking at your calendar, guard your unscheduled time. Say no to other activities that may come up. Those family dinners & Sunday afternoons at home are precious & necessary for your busy family!
