With the beginning of a new academic session round the corner, the University is preparing itself to greet the new students. KilT, as a University, has already proved itself, for which nearly 1.5 lakh students appeared the test to get admission. It is expected of the students, who after such a competition could make it to KilT, to uphold the dignity and sanctity of this great institution. KilT is proud of its students. The remarkable feats achieved by the students speak volumes about the quality of teaching and training imparted in the University. As the most progressive University, KilT has been organizing seminars, workshops, national and international conventions. In non-academic, social events too KilT continues to forge ahead. Celebration of International Women's Day, implementation of SAP, conducting Dental Camp and celebrating World Health Day are just few to name. The student's achievements and their placement are some of the unique feats that make KilT a class of its own. While KilT has been adding new feathers to its cap, its protege Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) is creating waves both in academic and extra-curricular activities. Is it not amazing to find the tiny institution is now celebrating its two decades of existence as world's largest residential institution for the indigenous children. During the period under review, KISS was fortunate to be blessed by Shri B. L. Joshi, His Excellency the Governor of Uttar Pradesh. The greatest accolade for the untiring efforts to put KilT and KISS distinctly visible in the world has come from one of the largest circulated daily 'Times' from London which has lauded the efforts of the Founder of KISS and KIIT for his contribution to the society at large.

I am happy to see that the initiative taken by Dr. Samanta way back in 1993 has now celebrating 20'h year of its existence. It is not that it is in the verge of completing 2 decades, but completion of 20 years of success of revolution, called KISS. I gathered that many states have come forward to replicate KISS in their states. World media has been writing about KISS. While TIME Magazine put up a story about it, Times from London has hailed Dr. Samanta's 'seva' service without any expectation. The smiling faces of 20,000 children, the blessings of their parents, the satisfaction of giving back to the society and the rare reviews by the entire world are with him. I have gone through the article published in Reader's Digest about Dr. Samanta. I compliment Dr. Samanta for his dedication. Lea rn i ng is a conti n uous p rocess. His Excellency Shri B. L. Joshi, Hon'ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh lighting the traditional lamp at the inaugural ceremony. Dr. A. Samanta looks on.

The young a re the stewa rds of th i s nat ion and custod i a n of very r ich trad it ion of a nt iq u ity with modern ization. As we ma rch towa rds becom i ng a deve loped nation , you r ro l e as youth of the cou ntry, becOl nes i nc reas i ng l y i m porta nt. One of the h u rd l es wh ich often work as a speed b rea ker is o u r menta l b l ock-to th i n k a n d cons iders h i ghe r ta rgets a nd goa l s to b e i m poss i b l e.

O u r cou ntry is bestowed with a u n i q ue knowledge wea lth of q u a l if ied profess iona l s a n d it gets richer every yea r i n th i s rega rd. As a society, we trad itiona l ly va l ued and n u rtu red the knowledge bu i l d i n g activity. Knowledge age seeks and rewa rds ideas , i rrespective of where they o ri g i nate a n d res ide. The perenn i a l sou rce of h u m a n ca p ita l of I nd i a has to be tra pped and converted i nto va l u e. Exce l l ence of I n d i a profess iona l s i n d iffe rent f ie lds i s t o b e we l l i m p ri nted on wide canvas o f the g l obe. Th i s p rocess is a l ready on. One ca n see that i n more recent t imes, outsou rc i ng of R&D ta lent i n I nd i a by g loba l i n du stries has been s i gn if ica nt. Sti l l , there is i m mense potenti a l fo r I nd ia to tra nsfo rm herse l f i nto a g loba l R&D p latfo rm. I t i s i m perative at t h i s j u n ctu re that front ier a rea o f techno logy l i ke Na notechno logy, B io -techno logy and B io -eng i neeri ng a re p u rsued agg ressive ly i n co l l eges and u n iversit ies. For wh ich we need to redefi ne ou r ed ucat ion system.

Here, I wou l d l i ke to ment ion that becom ing a mere desti nat ion fo r O utsou rc i ng shou l d not be our ma i n goa l. There is overri d i ng pr iority to u nderta ke techno logy deve lopment i n d iffe rent fie l d s. We are aware that mere accumulation of basic knowledge is of limited practical use, unless it is translated into innovations, providing economic or social value. Contrary to common belief that innovation is a random creative process, much innovation in the World today is an organized activity, involving systematic and disciplined efforts. There is a nother i m porta nt l i n k i n the cha i n l ead i ng to econom ic

His Excellency Shri B. L. Joshi, Hon'ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh being felicitated by Dr. A. Samanta.

i m pact a n d it is the o rg a n izati ona l system. If I nd i a has to esta b l is h herse l f as a techno logy sou rce or as a g loba l R&D p la tform a l l these th ree e lements name l y bas ic knowledge, i n novative app l i cation , and socia l o rg a n ization have to be strengthened. At the Same ti me, I wou l d l i ke to ment ion that H i g h leve l s of g rad uate u nemp loyment pose a serious p rob lem. It ca uses cons iderab l e persona l stra i n on the unemp loyed g ra d uate. And society loses out on the latest knowledge that the g raduate br ings from the i r h i g he r educat ion i n stitution. But it is not a q uestion of encou rag i ng young peop le to p u rsue less ed ucat ion. I am of view that more ed ucat ion is pa rt of the an swer to I n d ia's cha l l enges. But some th i ngs have to change. The tra ns i t ion from ed ucat ion to the l abou r ma rket m ust be fa r more effic ient. Th i s ra ises poss i b i l i t ies rega rd i ng the content of educationa l p rog ra m mes, ca reer c la rifi cation d u ri ng stud ies a n d l abou r ma rket- re la ted cond itions. Be ing prod uctive is the keyword.

Friends, Employability is essential. But we also need more young entrepreneurs creating new jobs. We have to address this problem. Education should give graduates the ability and belief that they can create their own jobs and thus become employers rather than mere job seekers. Young graduates also have a responsibility to create jobs or find employment to help contribute to growth, welfare and job creation for others. It requires innovative education programmes, a focus on career guidance and a change of mindset among students and educators.

I w ish Ka l i nga I n stitute of Soci a l Sc iences to f lo u ri sh a nd reach out to many more c h i l d ren l i ke you.

KilT U niverst An International Hub of Education

The excellent multidisciplinary University, KilT, of late has grown into one of the most important education hubs of the world, in general, and that of South Asia, in particular. With the induction of 250 students from Afghanistan, KilT has become the only University in Eastern India to have more than 500 foreign students in its several disciplines pursuing short-term and longterm programmes. Come September, there will be nearly 20 European students in the campus and by the end of the year, KilT will have nearly 400 students from Europe to study English. With the last batch of 40 students from Turkey returning to their country after successful six month's intensive English training, KilT has been asked by several other Universities across the globe to run similar courses for their students. KilT has already turned into a global university in the eastern part of India.
