Kiki’s Expo 2020 brings top-notch national instructors from the sewing industry to California’s
Central Valley. Each instructor brings unique skills to our comprehensive catalog of classes
where you are able to build your own schedule. You pick which days you attend, which classes
you take, and which techniques you would like to learn. Kiki’s supplies all your class materials,
sewing machine, and meals through out the day. Each attendee is treated to a continental
breakfast in the morning, a 5-star lunch in the afternoon, and light snacks throughout the day.
Expo classes meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at Kiki’s Quilt Shack. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

MISSY BILLINGSLEY
Missy travels the country teaching sewing,
serging, embroidery, and software classes
for Baby Lock USA. She specializes in
heirloom sewing by machine and serger.
Missy taught at the Martha Pullen School
of Art Fashion and owns her own pattern
line, Missy B Stitchin. She is a Baby Lock
Ambassador of Education, a Martha Pullen
Licensed Teacher, and a Sulky Certified
Instructor. She made multiple appearances
on Martha’s Sewing Room and has been
featured in various sewing magazines.
KAREN CHARLES
Karen is an SVP Event Specialist and has 25
years of experience in quilting, embroidery,
couture sewing, and free motion thread
painting. She has a wealth of expertise
in HUSQVARNA VIKING® sewing and
embroidery machines and PREMIER+™
Embroidery Software. She brings a unique
perspective into what drives success for
sewers. Her teaching methods make the
most complicated task achievable for all
students. Whether novice or experienced,
Karen’s event participants always learn new
methods to achieve beautiful results.
DIANE AHOLT
Diane spent more than 10 years as Educa-
tion Manager for Baby Lock. She introduced
the Destiny to Baby Lock retailers and has
developed IQ Designer classes for retailers
and consumers ever since. Officially retired
and now sharing her knowledge exclusively
at Kiki’s Quilt Shack, Diane teaches the
Destination Education Retreats and various
embroidery classes. She says she will
always have a special place in her heart for
the Baby Lock Destiny.
MIKE JOHNS
Mike Johns is a Baby Lock Ambassador,
Durkee Embroidery Hoops Educator, and
owner of Mama’s Boy Design. Growing up in
a family of crafters, Mike said he didn’t be-
come serious about sewing until he studied
Costume Design and Technology at Florida
State University a little over 20 years ago.
Mike has designed costumes for Broadway
shows and he enjoys the unique creative
process sewing and embroidery provides.

SUSAN ZELLERS
Susan has taught everything from basic
sewing and serging to computer digitizing
programs for Baby Lock. She also ran her
own business specializing in bridal gowns,
special occasion items, and custom embroi-
dery. Susan’s desire for unique embroidery
propelled her into digitizing her own designs.
An expert with Baby Lock Palette software,
Susan has designed embroidery for John
Deer’s Adorable Designs. In addition, she
taught at events with sewing celebrities
such as Martha Pullen, Nancy Zieman and
Eleanor Burns. Susan recently retired as a
Baby Lock Ambassador of Education and is
now working exclusively at Kiki’s.
GINA HODGES
Gina’s main creative focus is her love of
quilting and inspiring that love in others.
That passion takes the form of teaching
consumers to explore their own creativity
in the world of sewing and embroidery. Gina
currently works as an Accredited Jenny
Haskins tutor and educator. She is certified
in home interior design, business man-
agement, and upholstery. Her specialties
include embellishing linens and household
items. She is also an accomplished doll
designer, and has been constructing dolls
since high school.
TINA BARTLEMAY
Tina began her sewing-crafting-embroidery
journey as a young child. She learned to
make patterns from existing clothes and
spent time mastering a myriad of home
decor projects. Machine embroidery was
added to her tool kit in the late 1990s. The
marriage between technology and creativ-
ity was irresistible for her. After recently
retiring from a career in healthcare, Tina is
thrilled to focus her energy on machine em-
broidery. She is committed to sharing her
experiences with the crafting community.

Susan Zellers brings us an amazingly large tote bag designed by Gailpatrice De-
signs. It is loaded with serger techniques! Made on the Baby Lock Triumph eight-
thread serger, this bag features fabric by Tula Pink, and will bring you a smile every
time you carry it. The Triumph sergers we are using in class are self-threading and
make it a simple process to fly from technique to technique. Gathering, flatlock,
wave flatlock, double belt loop handles, decorative chain and cover stitches are just
some of the steps used to create this fully lined bag. Construction is finished on a
Baby Lock Crescendo sewing machine that handles the multiple layers with ease.

Missy Billingsley brings us her sparkling personality and some amazing in-the-hoop
projects again this year! The Wavy Zipper Bag is such a fun project, you will want
to make two! Sew, we will make two sizes in class on the Baby Lock Embroidery
machine. The large version is a great crossbody bag with a removable strap and the
smaller bag is perfect for the little essentials you need. Both bags are suitable for
day to evening and any outfit in beautiful, neutral shiny fabrics. This project is great
for embroidery beginners and even those completely new to sewing. The fabric kits
for this project are made to pair with the Perfect Little Clutch class.

PERFECT
Yes, you can make a fully lined bag with zippers, pockets and multiple compart-
ments completely in-the-hoop. The Perfect Little Clutch is just the right size for a
day out on the town or flying off to parts unknown. This project is done exclusively
in-the-hoop on the Baby Lock Embroidery machine where every step is completed
by the machine. It is suitable for every skill level from non-sewers and beginning
embroiderers to dedicated sewists. Missy Billingsley has designed this clutch in her
Missy B Stitchin pattern line. She makes the process easy to follow step-by-step,
even if you have never made this type of project before. This clutch is made with
fabrics that match The Wavy Bags class.

ESSENTIAL
What’s a great purse without “gotta have it” purse accessories? Diane Aholt will
guide you through four fun projects. In class, you will make a tissue cover, notebook
cover, eyeglass case, and cosmetic bag with credit card pockets and an outside
zipper compartment. Techniques include quilting a diamond grid, putting in a zipper
two ways, creating credit card pockets, adding iron-on vinyl appliqué, and iron-on
crystals. These accessories are made with beautiful, durable cotton/linen Essex
fabric with a touch of silver metallic. The fabric used in this class is made to pair
with the Baby Lock and PFAFF Convertible Purse classes. This is a fun sewing-only
class on the Baby Lock Crescendo.

handy. The Husqvarna Viking Designer Epic 2 features unique stitch techniques to
give you creative ways to add pizzazz to this project. Karen Charles, Viking National
Educator, will guide you to success starting with ribbon embroidery and adding se-
quin stitches, laser pictogram stitches and pop up stitches. Use the IDF for attach-
ing Velcro and putting the layers together to discover a new way to add stability to a
project. This class is suitable for beginning students in sewing and embroidery.

QUILT THERAPY
Join Karen Charles, Viking National Educator, to create a quilted table runner using
a creative way to sew piped curves and add ribbon embroidery. Embroidery tech-
nology in the Husqvarna Viking Epic 2 gives you limitless creativity. The bold floral
print, polka dots and metallic aqua fabrics in this project will make any table a party
table. Techniques on the Epic 2 include new, exclusive ribbon embroidery and appli-
qué stitches, quilting in-the-hoop, and piping. Finish the project with a quilt binding.
The instructions for this project can easily be modified to create placemats or any
size project on your own.

Wouldn’t it be amazing to recreate a photograph in stitches? Have you ever thought
that software would be difficult to use? Interested in seeing what is involved with
embroidery software? Mike Johns, Baby Lock Ambassador of Education, is present-
ing this great class to show you just how simple it is to turn a photograph into beau-
tiful embroidery. You will make a PhotoStitch butterfly embroidery design in class
on the Baby Lock Valiant 10-needle machine. While the machine is doing all the
work, watch how Mike created the butterfly embroidery design with just a few clicks
in the software. Yes! It is just that easy. This class is suitable for all levels of embroi-
dery enthusiasts and computer or software is not required to participate in class.

IQ ZEN
Ah, let the calmness enter your home with a table runner project that includes
multiple techniques in embroidery and sewing. Mike Johns will be sharing his
knowledge of how to take your embroidery vision to completion with the Baby Lock
IQ Designer. This embroidery project includes creating free standing lace, quilting
in-the-hoop, and embroidery appliqué. The quilting and appliqué are created in the
Baby Lock Embroidery and Sewing machine without additional software. Mike will
demonstrate how he created the designs while they are stitching out. To finish the
project, use the wave ruler to add interest and flow to the entire project. Embroi-
dered lace flowers created in class are tacked down with machine sewn eyelets and
iron on crystals add the final touch.

MEXICAN STAR
Ready for a fun quilt project? Susan Zellers is bringing a great Quilt-in-a-Day proj-
ect to Expo 2020. Susan taught with Elanor Burns for Baby Lock’s Quilt-in-a-Day
events and she brings that expertise to Kiki’s. Using the Baby Lock Crescendo
sewing machine to create the Mexican Star block is foolproof with multiple ways
to create perfect seams and great finish quilting. You will receive the pattern with
all the information to make a large version after class if you wish. Skills taught in
class include accurate quarter inch quilt seams and those amazing Quilt-in-a-Day
foolproof shortcuts. Can you make a quilt in a day? Well, you can certainly finish this
table runner in class!

Let the amazing Susan Zellers teach you a new way to make this braided table run-
ner. Kiki’s version of this addictive quilt classic is made modern and accented with
beautiful twin needle serpentine stitches. The kit is made with the fresh Wild Acres
fabric collection and complemented with Artisan cotton. The Baby Lock Crescen-
dos that we are using in class make creating a quilt easy by using an LED guide-light
and quarter-inch foot. Use the Stitch-in-the-Ditch foot and LED guide-light to make
aligning the finish quilting perfect. You will receive the pattern in class just in case
you want to make the larger or mini version of this quilt after class. This class is
suitable for beginners as well as confident quilters.

will receive in class. Use these designs to make any run-of-the-mill bargain shirt to
a boutique-quality creation. Choose to bring your own adult or children’s t-shirt to

Fashionista alert! Pick any denim from your closet and transform it with lace to
create your own look! Tina Bartlemay, DIME Educational Consultant, will walk you
through lace-making on the Baby Lock Embroidery machine. Imagine the ability to
transform any garment or accessory with your creativity and embroidery machine.
Tina will show Lace Maker software during class and dazzle you with a variety of
choices. Absolutely no previous experience is necessary for this class! Please bring
a denim garment or two of your choice, such as jeans or jacket to class for transfor-
mation. You will take home the lace design you used in class for future embellishing
adventures.
