Lap-a-thon On Friday the students in Kindy to Year 6 participated in a
lap-a-thon in support of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Through their efforts we collected 932 pairs of socks
which will be given to the needy. The Year 1 to 6 students
completed 3541 laps of the course and the Kindy and Pre-
primary students completed many laps of the inner oval
course. Well done all!

Kindy Hospital Incursion
From the Principal...From the Principal...From the Principal...From the Principal... Welcome to Week 6 of the term and congratulations to Room 10 on a wonderful assembly!
I hope that you enjoyed the long weekend as we now move to the last three weeks of the term.
Term 2 is always a nice solid term with minimum interruptions to the teaching program. Our student support
programs have now been in place throughout Term 1 and 2 and some extra support has been added to Year 3 and 4 for the
next six months. ‘MultiLit’ and ‘Signs for Sounds’ programs have now been implemented for the last term and a half by our
wonderful Education Assistants working solidly with individual students.
On Tuesday 12 June we will be hosting North Beach Primary School staff at an after school meeting where we will be doing
some cross-school moderation using persuasive text and the Brightpath scale. This is a great opportunity for our staff to
collaborate and participate in moderation processes that are essential in ensuring that our teacher judgments are on par with
other schools.
As part of the ‘Teachers Can Code’ initiative set and facilitated by the Department of Education to build teaching capacity in
coding, Mrs Jodie Reid will be presenting part of the first of nine modules to staff this Thursday. Each module takes three
hours. All staff from K to 6 will participate in the first module; however only staff from Year 3 to 6 will participate in the follow
up modules. The first module is an introductory module to the WA Curriculum: Digital Technologies.
About a month ago the Department made additional funding available for the provision of extra time for the Chaplaincy
program. Through a submission process, I am very pleased to let you know that we have secured additional funding to have
Miss Eden here for an extra day a fortnight. As of the 11 June Miss Eden will be here for an extra day on a Monday every odd
week as per the term planners. Miss Eden is an integral part of our student support services team and we are very happy to
have her here for an extra day.
Operational Matters
Parking on the Footpaths
One of our parents took a photo of this vehicle parking on the footpath recently, which is
apparently an ongoing problem. The City of Joondalup has regulations about parking so please
be aware of the following:
Motorists may not always appreciate the difficulties and dangers which can be caused to
pedestrians when vehicles are parked across footpaths. Footpaths are constructed within the
road verge to provide a safe walking environment for pedestrians, away from passing vehicles.
Some of the most vulnerable pedestrians may be young children, people with infants in prams,
people in wheelchairs and/or the elderly.
When pedestrians are forced to enter onto the road in order to pass a vehicle parked across a footpath, the opportunity for an
accident is significantly increased, therefore consideration for others safety should always be a priority.
Early Arrivals
Just a reminder that now that winter has arrived, please do not send children to school too early. As classrooms are not
opened until 8:30am, students are required to sit in front of the school and it can be very cold at times. There are some
children arriving very early without parents alerting administration, which means that students are alone at school. If for any
reason your circumstances change and your child needs to be at school earlier that 8:00 am, please let Administration know.
Have a good fortnight!

others in need and has become the ‘go to’ person her peers call on for help due to her polite, warm and supportive nature.
In her academic work she is extremely well organised, confident in the face of a challenge and resilient when adversity
strikes. She completes her work without a fuss and is always eager to learn new concepts.
The Aussie of the Month for Room 2 is a very worthy recipient. Congratulations Piper Yare.

Triple P Positive Parenting Program®
Single Parenting By Professor Matt Sanders
Single parents often say they feel it’s more difficult to discipline a child without a partner’s support. But it’s very important to approach discipline in exactly the same way as if you were parenting with someone else. It’s vital to have a game plan and be consistent. That means setting house rules that don’t fluctuate.
It may surprise some people to know that children like boundaries. Kids very easily become comfortable with the familiarity of a routine at bedtime, at mealtimes or when it’s time to get out of the house in the morning. Positive and predictable routines mean discipline will become much easier. Life won’t have to be full of big battles over little issues!
Another worry many single parents express is the lack of a significant male or female influence in the household. Mothers may feel this more keenly when they’re raising a son alone, as many fathers do when they’re raising a daughter. It’s always important to encourage your child to have role models and mentors. Role models can show children how to behave, and what is the appropriate thing to do.
So, single parents may want to look for opportunities for their children to get to know and have other men or women in their life. It could be a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, a trusted family friend or a sports coach. Having someone who will serve a mentoring role throughout the child’s life can be a great example to – and support for – the child.

P&C SUBWAY LUNCH - due 4 pm Wednesday 13 June (online and cash)
Ordering lunches can be done online or dropping a completed order form in the front office. Please take note of the relevant
close off times as it’s really hard on the office ladies to have to turn kids and parents away who have missed deadlines! We
aren’t trying to be difficult but we have over two hundred orders to check, cash to bank and orders to be placed by certain
timeframes to make sure the lunches are delivered without any problems. We appreciate your support.
Subway orders and money are due by 4pm Wednesday 13 June (for online orders and cash). As always, we will be
needing volunteers for counting and icy pole sales so please let us know if you can help out Friday 15 (for counting) or
Friday 22 June (for lunch distribution and icy pole sales)!
Online orders can be completed via https://quickcliq.com.au/ - go to meal order and select your child. You will get a pop-up
saying you’ve missed the canteen order for today; but it then should proceed to allowing you to order Subway. If not select 22
June in the meal order date and you should be able to proceed.
Please, please pretty please help us out by ticking some simple boxes:
• $7 or more please! We really need the correct money - no change will be given so extra money paid will be assumed
to be a donation to the P&C (thank you!) and also remember it’s hard for us to chase up if it is short and everything we
don’t get eats into the profits.
• Snaplock bags are the easiest and safest! Sealed snap lock bags prevent coins etc being lost and if your child's
name, year & room number are clearly visible on the front we don’t have to go hunting for where it belongs.
• Tick what’s on offer only! Boxes for each section are ticked (otherwise it will be assumed you don’t want something
from that selection). Again I cannot stress enough we cannot accept variations - what is on the form is what Subway is
prepared to offer in the deal – other options added in will be at your own peril as we’ll just ask Subway to substitute
them in at their discretion.
Completed orders can be dropped off in the locked drawer at the reception desk labelled Subway. The office will have a
supply of order forms and recycled snaplock bags – please ask your child to pop into the office to collect one. We will return
the named ones to class teachers in the interests of saving the planet!
