Hello to our parents, caregivers and families,

Welcome to the first Lockridge Primary School newsletter for Term 4. What a great couple of weeks we have had to start Term 4! I have been pleased to meet and spend time with a great group of students, staff and parents since arriving from York DHS, and am thankful for the support I have received thus far as the new Principal of Lockridge PS. For those who did not receive my letter on the first day of term, I am proud to be at Lockridge PS as Principal and am thrilled to be back in and around he suburbs in which I grew up. I remember fondly my time at Mirrabooka SHS (now Dianella College) and many days spent playing sport in Lockridge, Bassendean, Tuart Hill, Nollamara, Balga and Girrawheen, as those experiences have shaped the person I have become. I arrive as a committed school leader, seeking to make Lockridge PS, our students, staff and community, the best we can be. I have been pleased, but not surprised to learn, that we at LPS create successful students that boast an impressive list of achievements, having had students go on to become Doctors, Fire Fighters, Paralegals, Sports Stars, Business Owners, Nurses, Teachers, Electricians, Store Managers, Miners and Shire Workers, to name but a few. More importantly however, we produce positive social citizens, and no matter their chosen vocation, having our students leave us as better people is the ultimate goal. However, I have come to realize that we don’t speak of and celebrate these great things enough, so you will see a fairly consistent message from me that our motto of WISDOM and COURAGE produces strong, successful students. Moving forward, many of our social media posts will contain the hashtags:

I encourage you to also like and share our successes widely, any way you can, so we are able to inform the local and greater WA community of the wonderful things we achieve here at Lockridge PS. As proof of some of our success, I acknowledge and congratulate our Year 3 & 5 student and the teachers who have impacted their learning, as the recent release of the 2018 NAPLAN results showed some positive trends for our school. As a quick snapshot:

against ‘Like Schools’, we have, on average, higher progress and higher achievement in all test areas, when comparing students tested in Year 3 (2016), then in Year 5 (2018);

When considering our predicted school mean for Year 3 tests, we were ‘Above Expected’ in Numeracy, Reading and Grammar & Punctuation.

Whilst both of these are wonderful results, it is vital that we don’t simply compare our successes to ‘Like Schools’ or against others expectations of us. Our students are living in a world where they need to strive for their personal best, which when given the opportunity, can far surpass others expectations. We need to ensure our belief in our ability, our efforts towards achieving our best and our commitment to improvement are strong. I look forward to supporting this moving forward.

Yours Sincerely,

Mike Mount-Bryson

Principal

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
