the dates at which the first, examination will begin in 1883-84 : Oct. 17th, 1883; Jan. 7th, April 7th, July 14th, 1884.The second examination will commence on Oct. 22nd, 1883 ;Jan. 14th, April 10th, and July 23rd, 1884.The subjects of the two Profsional Examinations are the

same as those for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edin-burgh. At the Primary Examination the candidate isexamined on Recent Dissections, aud is also called upon todissect in presence of the Examiners. At the final examina-tion the candidate is subjected not only to the written, clini-cal and oral tests, but is also examined in Operative Surgery.Every candidate is also examined in Clinical Medicine.Any candidate who shall produce satisfactory evidence of

having passed an examination in Anatomy, Physiology, andChemistry, conducted by any of the Bodies named inSchedule A of the Medical Act, 1858, and recognised by theFaculty as requiring a course of study and an examinationsatisfactory to the Faculty will be exempt from the subjectsof the First Professional Examination. But if the candi-date has not passed in all the three subjects, he shall be sub-jected to the full examination.Graduates in Medicine of any British University, and Licen-

tiates in Medicine of any of the Licensing Bodies authorisedto grant Diplomas in Medicine, shall be exempted from exa-mination in Materia Medica, and from the written and oralexaminations in Medicine, and shall be examined in Surgery,Clinical Medicine, Midwifery, and Medical Jurisprudence.Any candidate who has been twice remitted to his

studies, either at the Primary or the Final Examination,shall be ineligible to appear again until he has produced acertificate of having attended at a medical school or hos-pital a course of instruction on the subject or subjects onwhich he was found defective, the duration of the course tobe determined by the examiners, but not in any case to be lessthan three months ; and the candidate shall be ineligible toenter again till the expiry of six months from his rejection.The fee is fifteen guineas ; six guineas for the First, and

nine for the Second Examination. In the case of a candi-date remitted to his studies at the First Examination, thesum of three guineas is retained. At the Second Examina-tion the sum ot four guineas is retained. In the case of acandidate being remitted to his studies more than twice, nopart of his fee is returned to him at the third or any subse.quent rejection.Any candidate rejected by another Board is ineligible to

enter for examination for a period of six months from thedate of his rejection. If his rejection involved attendance uponan additional course of study at a medical school or hospital,he must produce evidence of having fulfilled this condition.REGULATIONS REGARDING THE DOUBLE QUALIFICATION.The Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and

the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, grant theirdiplomas conjointly before a board of examiners in whicheach body is represented, the object being to give to studentsfacilities for obtaining from two separate bodies, and at lessexpense, a double qualification in Medicine and Surgery.The curriculum of study embraces a course of Medicine, inaddition to the subjects required for a diploma of theFaculty. The fee for the first examination is eight guineas;for the second twelve guineas.The examination for the Double Qualification will begin

in the Faculty Hall, Glasgow, at the following periods-namely, first examination, October 17th, 1883 ; January 7th,April 7th, July 14th, 1884. The second examination willbegin on October 26th, 1883 ; January 21st, April 14th, andJuly 27th, 1884.Applications to be admitted to either the first or second

examination must be made to the Secretary of the Facultynot later than one week preceding the examination.Candidates are required to subscribe a declaration that

they have not been rejected by any examining board withinthree months before the exammation.The other regulations are nearly the same as those for the

diploma of the Faculty.

KING AND QUEEN’S COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANSIN IRELAND.

Examinations in the subjects of the First ProfessionalExamination are held quarterly, in January, April, July,and October. Examinations in the subjects of the FinalExamination for the licence in Medicine of the College andfor the licence in Midwifery are held in the week following

the first Friday in each month, except August and September.Every candidate for a licence mmt return his name to theRegistrar of the College, and lodge with him his certificates,bank (Royal Bank of Ireland) receipt of fees, and his

schedule, at least four days before the first Friday in eachmonth.Licence in Medicine.-Every candidate for the licence ofthe College to practise Medicine must produce satisfactoryevidence-1. Of character, from a Fellow of the College, orfrom two registered practitioners. 2. Of having passed anexamination in general education, held by some one of theexamining bodies recognised by the General Medical Council,3. Of having been engaged during a period of four years inthe study of Medicine. 4. Of having attended courses oflectures on the following subjects, at Echools recognised bythe College: Practical Anatomy, two courses; Physiologyor Institutes of Medicine, Chemistry, Practical Chemistry,Materia Medica, Medical Jurisprudence, Practice of Medi-cine and Pathology, Surgery, and Midwifery-each onecourse. 5. Of having attended for twenty-seven months arecognised Medico-Chirurgical Hospital, in which clinicallectures and clinical instruction in Medicine are given, theattendance not to be for more than nine months in any oneyear-viz., six winter, and three summer months. 6. Ofhaving studied Fever, for not less than three months, in arecognised clinical hospital, containing fever wards, ard re-corded from daily personal observation at least five casesof fever, to the satisfaction of the attending clinical phy-sician, as attested by his signature.27 7. Of having attendedPractical Midwifery and Diseases of Women for six monthsat a Lying-in Ho spital or Maternity recognised by the Col-lege ; or, where such hospital attendance cannot have beenobtained during the course of study, of having been en-gaged in Practical Midwifery under the supervision of aregistered practitioner holding public appointments; in eithercase not less than twenty labour cases must have beenactually attended. 8. Of having lodged the admission feein the Royal Bank of Ireland, Foster-place, Dublin, to thecredit of the College.The professional examination is divided into two parts : I.

Anatomy, Physiology and Practical Histology, Chemistry,and Materia Medica. 2 Practice of Medicine, ClinicalMedicine, Pathology Medical Jurisprudence, Midwifery,Hygiene, and Therapeutics. Candidates may be examinedin the subjects of the first part at the termination of thesecond year of study, on producing the certificates in thesesubjects, or in all the subjects of their education, on thecompletion of their medicat studies. No candidate can beexamined in the subjects of the first and second parts in thesame month.

Candidates qualified as follows are required to undergothe second part onlv of the professional examination, viz. :-(1) Graduates in Medicine of any university in the UnitedKingdom, or of any Foreign university approved by theCollege ; (2) Fellows, Members, or Licentiates of the RoyalColleges of Physicians of London or Edinburgh; (3) Gradu-ates or Licentiates in Surgery ; (4) Candidates who, havingcompleted the curriculum laid down above, shall havepassed the previous professional examination or examina-tions (where there are more than one) of any of the licensingmedical authorities in the United Kingdom.

Licerace in Midwifery.—Candidates for the licence in mid-wifery, who are not licentiates in medicine, may be admittedto examination on the following qualifications : (1) Thedegree or licence in medicine or surgery from any Universityor College of Physicians or Surgeons in the United King-dom ; (1) Testimonials as to character ; (3) Certificates ofhaving attended (a) a course of lectures on midwifery in aschool recognised by the College; (b) practical midwiferyand diseases of women, as in Section 6 of the regulations forthe Licence in Medicine.The fees are: For the licence to practise medicine, 915 15s,

Examination for the midwifery licence, E3 3s. For thelicences in medicine and midwifery, if obtained within amonth, to be lodged in one sum,28 E16 16s. In ca-e thecandidate be a graduate both in Arts and in Medicine of anyUniversity in Great Britain or Ireland, the fee for the licencein medicine shall be E5 5s. The admission fee, less the sum

paid to the examiners, is returned to any candidate rejectedat any of the College examinations.The Membership. —Members of the College alone are

eligible to the Fellowship. Every candidate for the member-ship is required to produce satisfactory evidence-1. Ofhaving attained the age of twenty-five years. 2. Of being alicentiate of this College for three years at least ; or a

licentiate of one year’s standing, who shall be a graduate ofArts of a university in the United Kingdom at the time ofhis obtaining the licence ; or a licentiate of one year’sstanding, who shall be a registered practitioner of seven years’standing at the time of his obtaining the licence. 3. Ofprofessional conduct and moral character, as testified by afellow or member of the College, or by a fellow of the RoyalCollege of Physicians of London or of Edinburgh. 4. Ofnot being engaged in trade; of not dispensing medicine, or

making any engagement with a chemist, or any other person,for the supply of medicines ; and of not practising medicineor surgery in partnership, by deed or otherwise. 5. Ofhaving held, during at least six months, the office of residentphysician, or resident medical pupil, in a hospital recognisedby the College ; or of having acted for the same period asclinical clerk in the medical wards of such hospital; or ofhaving been in medical charge, for at least twelve months, ofany public institution for the treatment of the sick. 6. Ofhaving lodged the admission fee of twenty guineas in theRoval Bank of Ireland to the credit of the College.Every candidate shall be required to pass an examination

in (1) Principles of Medicine, including Pathology. MedicalAnatomy, and Medical Chemistry. (2) Practice of Medicine,including Principles of Public Health. (3) Cinical Medicine.The examination for the membership is held quarterly-

in January, April, July, and October, and is conducted(1) by printed papers, (2) clinically, and (3) orally.The Fellowship.—The election for fellowship takes place

twice a year, on the first Friday III April, and on St. Luke’s ,day (October 18th). Candidatei must be proposed and nomi-nated three months previously. Fee, E60.The Certificate in Sanitary Science.—Every candidate for

the Certificate in Sanitary Science must be a licentiate inmedicine of the College, and must return his name to theRegistrar of the College a week before the examination,and lodge with him a testimonial of character from a Fellowor Member of the College, or from a Fellow of the RoyalColleges of Physicians or Surgeons of London, Edinburgh,or Dublin. Stated examinations for the Certificates inSanitary Science are held quarterly on the Thursday andFriday following the first Friday of the months of January,April, July, and October. The examination comprises thefollowing subjects - (1) Etiology and Prevention of Dis-ease ; (2) Engineering; (3) Law; (4) Chemistry; (5) Meteoro-logy, Climatology, and Vital Statistics. The fee for the ex-amination is £5 5s., which shall be lodged in the RoyalBank of Ireland to the credit of the College before thecandidate is admitted to examination.

ROYAL COLLEGE OF SURGEONS IN IRELAND.

Every candidate for the Letters Testimonial shall be re-quired to pass a Preliminary Examination and four Profes-sional Examinations, unless he possess a diploma or degreein either medicine or surgery recognised by this College, orwho have passed an equivalent examination.

Professional Examinations.—The first, second, and thirdProfessional Examinations shall be held in the July andOctober of each year; should the student fail to pass inJuly, he may present himself at the Examination held inOctober. The Examination of each year must be passedbefore a new session can be entered on.

First Professional Examination.—Candidates must havebeen engaged in study for at least nine months subsequentto registration. The examination shall include the following ;(1) Physics, if not passed at the Preliminary Examination ;(2) the Elements of Chemistry ; (3) Elementarv Botany ; (4)Human Osteology ; (5) Elementary Practical Pharmacy.The fee for this examination shall be £5 5s.Second Professional Examination. —Candidates are re-

quired to produce evidence of having passed the first profes-sional examination, also certificates of having subsequentlyattended - Medico - Chirurgical Hospital, nine months.Winter courses : Practical Anatomy, Physiology, Surgery,Chemistry (unless attended in first year). Summer courses,three months: Practical Chemistry, Practical Physiology,Materia Medica. The fee for this examination shall be £5 M.

Candidates shall be examined in—(1) Anatomy ; (2) Histo-logy ; (3) Surgery; (4) Chemistry ; and (5) Materia Medica,.

Third Professional Examination. —Candidates must pro-duce evidence of having passed the Second Examination,also certificates of having subsequently attended-Medico-Chirurgical Hospital ; nine months as an extern pupil, or sixmonths as a resident pupil. Winter courses : Demonstra-tions and Dissections, Practical Anatomy (unless attendedin the first year), Surgery and Medicine. Summer course,three months : Medical Jurisprudence.Tnefee for this examination shall be £5 5s. Candidatesshall

be examined in-(1) Anatomy ; (2) Physiology ; (3) Surgery.Fourtlb, and Final, Professional Examination.—Shall be

held in July and October, and in the following April.Candidates must produce evidence of having passed theThird Professional Examination, also certificates of havingsubsequently attended—Medico-Chirurgical Hospital, ninemonth as extern pupil. Winter courses : Dissections,Demonstrations, and Midwifery. Certificates will also berequired of having attended a midwifery hospital, or

maternity, for six months, and of having been present atthirty labours. Clinical Ophthalmology, three months,Operative Surgery. Practical Instruction in Vaccination.The fee for this examination shall be E5 5s. Candidates

shall be examined in-1. Surgery: Clinical, Ophthalmic, andOperative, with Surgical Anatomy. 2. Medicine. 3. Mid-wifery and Diseases of Women. 4. Medical Jurisprudence.

Fellowship Examination for Candidates possessing no

Qualification. - The examiuation shall consist oE twodivisions, and extend over, at least, three days ; the firsttwo of which shall be devoted to the Examination for theLetters Testimonial of the College. The third day shall bedevoted to additional subjects required for the Fellowship.Candidates who do not pass the first two days’ examinationshall not be allowed to proceed to the third, but those whodo pass shall be entitled to receive the Letters Testimonialof the College, although they may not have passed the thirdday’s examination. No credit will be given, on a subsequentoccasion, for passing a part only of either examination.

THE SOCIETY OF APOTHECARIES, LONDON.Every candidate for a Certificate of Qualification to

practise as an Apothecary will be required to producetestimonials-Of having passed a Preliminary Examinationin Arts as a test of general education. (This examinationmust be passed before the commencement of medical studies.Medical studies commenced before the candidates shall havepassed an examination on the subject of general educationwill not be recognised.) Of having attained the full age oftwenty-one years. Of good moral conduct. A certificate ofthree months’ Practical Pharmacy from some recognisedhospital or dispensary, or from a qualified medical practi-tioner. And of having pursued a course of medical study inconformity with the regulations of the Court.Examinations in Arts will be held on January l0th, llth,

12th ; April 3rd, 4th, 5th; and on Sept. lltb, 12th, 13tb, 1884,The course of medical study required for a licence must

occupy at least four years, of which not less than threewinter and two summer sessions must be passed at a reco-gnised school or hospital. The following will be recognisedand considered equivalent to eighteen months’ study, inaddition to the two ears and a half above -mentioned:(a) Attendance on the practice of a hospital or other publicinstitution recognised by this Hall for that purpose; (b) in-struction as the pupil or assistant of a registered practi-tioner, physician or surgeon to a hospital, general dispensary,or union workhouse, or where such opportunities of practicalinstruct on are afforded as may be deemed satisfactory.

Coarrse of Study. - Every candidate must attend thefollowing lectures and medical practice: each winter session toconsist of not less than six months, to commence on the lst ofOctober; each summer session to commence on the 1st of May.

First Year.—Winter Session: Chemistry, Anatomy, andPhysiology (including Dissections and Demonstrations).Summer Session : Botany, Materia Medica, and Therapeutics,Practical Chemistry.Second Year.—Winter Session: Anatomy and Physiology

(including Dissections and Demonstrations), Principles andPractice of Medicine, Clinical Medical Practice. SummerSession: Midwifery and Diseases of Women and Children,Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Clinical Medical Practice.Third Year.-Winter Session: Principles and Practice of

Surgery, Clinical Medical Lectures, Morbid Anatomy,
