BECOME A

VOLUNTEER

Become a volunteer, our Centre needs your assistance so that we can continue to be of service to our community. Without the valuable contribution of vol-unteers we would be unable to offer the services that we provide. The King Valley Learning Exchange needs volunteers with or without skills as training can be provided if required. If the volunteer wishes to work in areas other than the office work, tutoring classes, reception and customer service then alternative activities are available to them. Volunteering builds self confidence, meet new people, gain work experience, explore career opportunities, share skills, experience and contribute to the community.

KING VALLEY COMMUNITY MEN’S SHED GROUP

Meet every Tuesday at Alex’s shed at Meadow Creek

Come along and share skills, ideas or just a cuppa & chat.

Sheds hold an important place in Australian culture—they can be a reservoir of memories, experiences, as well as a place to share skills and to socialize. We’ve all read reports which tell us that good health is based on many factors including self-esteem, feeling productive and valuable to society, having social relationships and being active. Many retired people have to downsize their living arrangements, often resulting in the man’s personal space, usually a garden shed or workshop, being lost. So the idea of a community shed was born. Here men could come and share a fantastic variety of tools, still pursue their interest in pastimes and hobbies, spend time with blokes of similar interest, learn new skills, use tools for the first time, or keep old skills honed and productive. Here men could also feel viable and vigorous by contributing to community needs—and create projects of personal interest and expertise

ALL WELCOME Phone Alex on 5729 5558

The Greta Craft Group was started with a few women, meeting in their homes and now has over 40 members. It is 35 years old. They meet weekly on a Tues-day (quilters) and/ or Wednesday in the old Greta School. Women of all ages enjoy the weekly activities, where they share their skills in embroidery, stencilling, patchwork, felting, card making and many other craft activities. They support each other, making many new friends, helping each other through hard times and social interaction, with exchange visits to other groups. They also work with the wider community, donating handcrafts to people in need e.g. stoma dolls for the children's hospital; quilts for the elderly and fire victims; teddies for children; Christmas hampers etc. The group exhibits their work, by taking an active part in the local shows; stitch-up festival; quilt exhibitions; local Moyhu Garden expo etc. The King Valley Learning Exchange supports the Greta Craft Group.

Meet at the old Greta School 1395 Glenrowan Road, Greta, 3675

"Passionate Palettes" are a group of local artists from the King Valley, who meet regularly to share their passion for painting. Although their paintings are quite diverse, each brings their own individual style, expression and artistic experience to the group. They held an exhibition at King Valley Cucina in 2009, and hope to do so again in the near future. This year, in cooperation with the King Valley Learning Exchange, the PP's organised workshops with well known artists Ross Paterson and Jenny Paul. More are planned for next year.
