President). Liliana Perez (NHS Secretary) cited the Recognition of the Chapter, followed by a speech on the significance of the NHS
emblem by Reporter Morgan Yost.

qualities expected of NHS membership; Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character. Current KHS NHS members Lane Holt,
Madison Stucki, Rage Redus, Emily Reherman, Isaac Waltman, Trevor Buckner, Taylor Chapman and Allie Phillips led this portion

Overstreet Signs with University of Arkansas By: Logan Hightower/dt
Mason Overstreet recently signed to The University of Arkansas, last week, as a senior for Kingfisher High School. Overstreet is
one of Oklahoma’s outstanding young golfers, with three state champion rings, two individual and one team title. He is also trying to get
another ring this year, so he can beat his mom, with three state
rings for basketball.
Mason has won 27 out of the 35 high school tourna-
ments, and has a 70.4 scoring average, holding the best average in
KHS history. Chris Combs, the KHS boy’s golf said this about
Overstreet, “Mason, without a question, has to be considered one
of the best high school players in Oklahoma history.”
Overstreet also competed in the USA Junior World Cup,
representing the U.S in Japan.
Overstreet is looking to improve this year to win state for
the fourth year in a row. (His whole high school career) Overstreet
committed to University of Arkansas his sophomore year, but
didn’t sign until this year.
Arkansas is fortunate to have grabbed him first, because
he has a lot of colleges wanting him, but he liked Arkansas as that
was the first college he went to as a trip. Overstreet is looking
forward to this year season, and also the whole KHS team and
coaches.

An accident in Mr. Wood’s Chemistry lab in an early morning
class last week sent his students to the Commons for the remainder of the
day. According to eyewitness accounts, a student dropped a container of
liquid that emitted a noxious smelling odor throughout the room.
Mr. Wood conducted the remainder of his classes in the Com-
mons for the rest of the day, as curious students peeked into the sealed off
classroom.

Senior Profile: Dylan Rash By: Teresa Rangel/kk
January twenty-third of the
year 1998 was one of the most signif-
icant days in history. It marks the day
that an artist was born. The artist’s
name is Dylan Autry Rash. This geni-
us was bestowed to parents Chanda
Rash and Terry Rash along with sib-
lings Anthony Rash (eldest, 22), Aus-
tin Rash (18), and Sara Williams
(youngest, 7). Dylan is the second
youngest out of four siblings and
owns a Pit bull named Samson.
Dylan, AKA Vox, is a His-
tory enthusiast and plans on majoring
in this field at OSU to become a high
school teacher, thence a college pro-
fessor. His favorite teacher is Mrs.
Harris.
“Where do you see yourself
in the future?” I, the interviewer,
asked. “I see myself as a Teacher
who does vocals in a metal band
while also being covered in tattoos.
So basically the coolest teacher ev-
er!”
His all time favorite movies include Fury, American Psycho, and Hot Tub Time Machine 2. Anything written by the author Sher-
rilyn Kenyon is Dylan’s favorite book.
In his free time you might catch him listening to Metal and Trap or his favorite radio station 90.1 “the cassical station.” His all
time favorite bands are Polyphia, The Art is Murder, The Bunny The Bear, Reflections, ERRA, Alessana, and Volumes. His favorite song is
Render the Void by ERRA. His hobbies are skating, creating music, writing lyrics, going to concerts, and “chilling with my homies”. By far
his favorite holiday is Halloween. He also adores tigers and shopping online.
His favorite TV shows are by far Supernatural. His best friends are Justin Knox and Drew Drussel. His current role in society is working at
the KFC/ Taco Bell restaurant. He loves to eat Butterfinger and sushi. His favorite color is the combination of all secondary and primary
colors of the rainbow (black).
“ I have too many embarrassing moments, ” Dylan recounts with a dead smiley face emoticon. Dylan originally said, “Creating
my future without anyone stopping me,” are his achievements.
A random fact about Dylan is that he gets all his power from his luscious flowing locks.
Dylan’s words of wisdom to the underclassmen are “Do not blow off school. Truancy isn’t fun.” Dylan isn’t going to miss ANY-
THING about the school to be honest. His words to Fellow Seniors are “I’ll see you in my rear view mirror (and possibly at some frat par-
ties).”
“Doesn’t expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected?”- Dylan Rash

Distinguished Young Women
Scholarship Program
By: Laryn Schemmer/kk
Not only did the Sadie Hawkin’s Dance go on last Saturday, November
14, 2015, but so did the Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program. Three
contestants represented Kingfisher High School by competing to be the Distin-
guished Young Women of 2016-2017. Of the twelve contestants all of the KHS
representatives won a scholarship, with two of the three placing first and third.
Taylor Chapman won second runner-up, also known as third place. For
her talent she performed a cover of one of her favorite songs.
Kylee Smith won the Penny King Spirit Award. The Penny King Spirit
Award is voted on solely by the contestants. They vote on who they think is the
most spirited and who best represents the Distinguished Young Women Program.
Her talent was performing a monologue about her “ability” and how everybody
should love everybody.
Emily Murray was the over all winner of the scholarship program. Not
only was she the overall winner, but she also won the Self Expression category and
the Interview category. For her talent she played the piano.
The other category winners include other various winners. Erin Garlett
from Okarche won the Be Your Best Self category. Kara Robinson from Okarche
High School won the Scholastic Award for her fantastic grades. Megan Jeffreys,
also from Okarche High, won the excruciating fitness category. Lastly, Katie
Soudek from Hennessy High School, previously attending Kingfisher High School,
won the talent category by singing beautiful opera music. She was also the first
runner-up.
In conclusion, Kingfisher swept the board, with former-Kingfisher at-
tendee also coming in the top three along side two other Kingfisher participants.
Great job ladies!
Senior Trip 2015/2016 By: Blanca Barcenas/kk
This year’s
Seniors of 2016 went to
the Daily Oklahoman
for their senior trip. It
was a windy and some-
what cold day. As they
went in the big building
they were separated into
five groups.
There were different speakers in each
group who would talk about the process of getting
the paper ready. After the speakers were done with
all the groups, the seniors met by the Daily Oklaho-
man sign inside.
For the senior picture, there were some
issues getting everyone to fit. They then went to
Brick Town by the fountain to take more pictures.
Mrs. Hubbard also took the 13-year club picture.
After, they let the seniors go eat where ever they
wanted.
Although some people didn’t quite like
where we went for our senior trip, I personally think
that it didn't really matter where we went as long as
it was together. It was our last trip as a class, and
plus we have six more months together. The trip was
not that bad.
