St. Matthew’s Pre-School Christmas Program will be held on Wednesday, December 19, in our fellowship hall at

10:00am. The Pre-School invites everyone in the congregation to attend.

St. Matthew’s Traditional Christmas Eve Candlelight Service on

December 24 will take place at 7:00pm. We will Celebrate Holy

Communion by Intinction, sing seasonal carols, hear the reading of God’s

Word through scripture, be blessed by our choir’s special music, and

enjoy the beauty of the nave decorated for the season. Join us for this

special time of worship as we welcome the Christ Child!

13 at noon at the home of Rachel Gladden, 111 Haley

Reanna Court, Kings Mountain. All ladies are invited.

The Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry can use non-perishable food items such as

Toiletries items Feminine products Paper products

Baby items such as diapers and wipes

If you can donate such items, place them in Mumsie’s

Little Red Wagon in the narthex.

2019 Offering Envelopes The congregation has approved a

budget for 2019 and we need the help

of everyone in meeting that budget. As

you have prayerfully considered what you are able to give,

we ask that you use your new 2019 offering envelopes

so that we can make an accurate recording of your

contributions. The envelopes will be available beginning

December 16 in the narthex for you to pick up. Also,

please deliver any boxes of envelopes that you can as this

saves on postage.

If you have someone to add to the prayer list please contact the church

office. Names will be left on this prayer list for three weeks, then removed

unless we are made aware of an ongoing need. (* Member; **Associate

● Cindy Campbell (mother of Beth Suber*) was scheduled to be discharged

from Presbyterian/Novant Hospital in Charlotte on 11/30 and taken to Fair

Haven Nursing Home in Forest City

● Claude Suber is in CMC/Atrium Main ICU at CMC/Atrium Main in

Charlotte where he is being treated for post-surgical meningitis

● Kay M. Berkeley, health issues (sister of Charles Mauney**)

● Wally Davis, health issues (son-in-law of Charles** and Lynne** Mauney)

Homebound: Kathleen Bridges*, Meta Kopruch*, and Zada Hairston,

(mother of Nancy Abasiekong*)

VETERANS DAY RECOGNITION Pictured below are the two front pews in St. Matthew’s nave, where pictures and information regarding those who have served in our military were displayed on November 11 as we honored our veterans. Thank you to everyone who supplied the information we requested. And thank you to those who serve, or have served, our country!

SANDWICH SUNDAYS - We

invite you to stay after church on

Sunday, December 16, for a light

lunch. Soup and sandwiches will

be served, and we will enjoy a

time of fellowship and community. Please make room

on your calendar for this opportunity to get together

and share time with one another before Christmas.

Those interested in helping can see Heather White

or Robert Wilson for details. The goal of “Sandwich

Sunday” is to get our members together,

occasionally, for food and fellowship. To kick things

off, Heather and Robert will provide soup and

sandwiches on the 16th, but future events will be

open to other options such as pizza or a bring your

own lunch.

FLOWER CALENDAR

The 2019 Altar Flower calendar will be on the credenza in the narthex beginning December 16. There are several “open” Sundays, so please pencil in your name beside a

date if you want to be added to the schedule to place altar flowers in the church on a specific Sunday. Draw a line

through your name if you want to be taken off the schedule, or indicate if you want to make a change to the

schedule. Contact the church office at 704-739-7466 if you have any questions.

SERVERS’ LISTS We are revising the 2019 schedules for lectors, greeters and ushers using the time and talent

sheets that were turned in on Commitment Sunday. However, if you wish to be added to or deleted from, or make changes to a list and you did not turn in a time and talent sheet, please

contact the Worship & Music chairman, Judy Wilson, at 704-749-3547.

2018 Christmas Form If you wish to purchase white poinsettias for the Advent/Christmas season through the Altar Guild, or

contribute to the cost of the wreaths, or make a donation to the Crisis Ministry for Christmas, please

- Information regarding poinsettia orders for Christmas - Poinsettias will be white this year with green wrapping. Clay pots are no longer available from the nursery.

Each poinsettia is $9.00. The deadline for ordering poinsettias is Monday, December 3. This deadline is put in place by the nursery, not us. Please see the order form below.

November 18 Congregational Meeting

The following actions were taken at the November 18 congregational meeting:

1) Approved two new council members - Tim Buchanan and Heather White

2) Approved a new Benevolent Foundation member - Jeff Mauney

3) Approved the 2019 budget

Highlights of the 10-14-2018 Church Council meeting

1. Approved meeting agenda and minutes for September 9

2. Accepted pastor’s report and treasurer’s report

3. Heard reports of church committees

4. Confirmed plans for Homecoming Sunday on October 21

5. No joint Reformation service this year

6. Joint cantata at Resurrection Church in December

7. Approved not having a called congregational meeting on

November 11 to discuss the “8 Options” previously given to us

when Pastor Josh Tucker resigned, but to proceed with the

interim pastor model

8. Discussed possible interim

9. Council working on possible nominees for new council

members to serve beginning January 1, 2019

10.Received recommendation from Benevolent Foundation for a

new member – Jeff Mauney

11.Approved “Sandwich Sundays” as requested by Heather White

Highlights of the 11-04-2018

Called Church Council meeting

1. Approved presenting names of Tim Buchanan and Heather

White to serve on council beginning January 1, 2019

2. Approved the recommended budget for 2019 by the Finance

Committee (same as last year)

3. Approved presenting the name of Jeff Mauney as a new

Benevolent Foundation member

These three actions will be presented to the congregation for their

approval at the November 18 congregational meeting.

Church Council Meeting The next meeting of St. Matthew’s Church Council is

Sunday, December 9,

at 8:00 a.m. in the conference room.

Newly elected church council members are asked

to attend the meeting.

The 2018 council will finish any business for this year,

followed by a meeting of the 2019 council to elect council

officers and select a day/time for meetings in 2019.

All church council members will be installed

during worship on Sunday, December 16.

3. Accepted pastor’s report . There was no treasurer’s

report

4. Heard reports of committees

5. Preparations underway for November 18

6. Evaluated “Homecoming” which was a success

7. Accepted Robert Wilson’s resignation as organist

upon finding a suitable replacement or effective
