KINTBURY ST MARY’S PRIMARY SCHOOL HEAD TEACHER MRS FIONA HENDERSON Dear Parents and Carers, Thank you to all parents/carers who were able to aend the consultaon meengs about early closure on Fridays: the Governors found the sessions incredibly helpful in gaining community views; we will be sending out an FAQ sheet before half-term which I'm sure par- ents will find useful - especially those who were unable to aend the meengs. School Council - we are currently in the process of elecng our new School Councillors. Each class from Y1-Y6 vote for two of their class members to join the council. If your child would like to be elected, then they may have to deliver a short speech to their peers about why they want to join the School Council, what sort of qualies they will bring etc. We will be announcing the new Councillors in the next newsleer. School Councillors play an important role in the day to day running of the school - pupils are able to offer suggesons about playmes, school rounes and our Behaviour Policy - amongst other things! Please encourage your child to stand for elecon. Parent Pay - Please don't forget to acvate your account as the school will be cashless from next Wednesday 31 January and you will also need to acvate your account to connue to receive school texts and messages. If you would like help in seng yourself up for ParentPay, then please just ask at the school office. Lunchme Supervisor - we have a vacancy for a Lunchme Supervisor to start as soon as possible. Please ask at the school office if you are interested in applying. Woodpeckers have been wring story openers based on myths this week: Here is Lewis's opener, which I thought was a brilliant start! Innocence, Paence and Arrogance - the Triple-Header, Deadly Shadow Dragon One day in the Deadly Shadow's magical cave, he lay down next to his eggs aſter a very busy day indeed. His kids had just hatched and three of them were trouble-makers and the other one was very calm. He had to chase them all over his cave! By the me he had caught and put them in their nest, there was a marching sound. (The Emper- or had sent forty soldiers to invesgate the cave). The Deadly Shadow Dragon flew out of his cave as soon as he had heard the sound - his wife got killed so he to take his eggs away by himself... And here is Arty's opener.. which really made me want to know what happens next! Lightning and Chen Hao Long, long ago there lived a dragon - the people called him 'Lightning' because no-one could ever see him. One day, Lightning was hunng cale when someone saw him. Lightning fled, hoping that his eyes were just playing tricks on him - but he was wrong! The next day, the Emperor sent his army aſter Lightning. Lightning knew he had to leave! That night.... Well done to everyone in Woodpeckers: these sound like they will be fantasc pieces of wring when they are finished! Best wishes for a relaxing weekend - it seems ever-so-slightly lighter in the mornings! Fiona Henderson Parents’ Newsletter Monday January 29th 2018

Innocence, Patience and Arrogance - the Triple-Header, Deadly Shadow Dragon

One day in the Deadly Shadow's magical cave, he lay down next to his eggs after a very busy day indeed. His kids had just hatched and three of them were trouble-makers and the other one was very calm. He had to chase them all over his cave! By the time he had caught and put them in their nest, there was a marching sound. (The Emper-or had sent forty soldiers to investigate the cave). The Deadly Shadow Dragon flew out of his cave as soon as he had heard the sound - his wife got killed so he to take his eggs away by himself... And here is Arty's opener.. which really made me want to know what happens next!

Lightning and Chen Hao

Long, long ago there lived a dragon - the people called him 'Lightning' because no-one could ever see him. One day, Lightning was hunting cattle when someone saw him. Lightning fled, hoping that his eyes were just playing tricks on him - but he was wrong! The next day, the Emperor sent his army after Lightning. Lightning knew he had to leave! That night.... Well done to everyone in Woodpeckers: these sound like they will be fantastic pieces of writing when they are finished! Best wishes for a relaxing weekend - it seems ever-so-slightly lighter in the mornings!
